Last year I was at my friends' Damen and Sam's house and had on new flip-flops. I slipped on the top stair of their house and fell down about 5 stairs or so. I started having pain in my lower back/tailbone months later. I had found out, then, that my tailbone was bent. I tried chiropractic, injections (both epidural and directly into the tailbone), sitting on pillows, etc.... Nothing worked. So.....I'm going to have surgery to remove my tailbone. If you want to get all fancy schmancy, it's a coccygectomy.

My surgery will be on Wednesday. So....you won't see me later on Tuesday, Wednesday, and maybe Thursday. I was told that I'll be in the hospital definitely one day, if not two.

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!

EDIT:

Update #1:

thepd7 came to visit me. I have four pictures (two are basically the same) and he has some that he can share once he's home if he wishes. It was very nice to get to meet someone I've been talking to for quite a while. :) He was also very mindful of my sore booty. lol We went to dinner and I had to take my booty cushions (coccyx cushions) with me and it was pretty funny.

Him at Brad's restaurant in Pismo Beach, CA. (Not my cousin's restaurant.)

Saying bye numero uno.

Saying bye numero dos.

Ooooooh! A kiss on the cheek!

EDIT:

Update #2

I went to the doc today. The bottom of my incision was still a little open ( ) so he had to put steri-strips on it, but it isn't infected, which is good. I have to see him in three weeks. That was basically the visit in a nutshell. :)

EDIT:

Update #3

I'm s-l-o-w-l-y getting better. The holes in my incision were refusing to close. I'm on my second round of antibiotics and the infection is finally gone. I saw my new primary care doc last week and he told me of the only thing he knew that would close it and I thought he was off his rocker. He told me to get honey and put it on the wound. It went back and forth for a couple seconds of me asking, "You mean eat it? Really? You mean put it on there and not eat it?!" He told me to buy 100% honey with nothing added and put a little on there. I thought he was crazy (as I said), but I was desperate for the incision to close. So...I went to the store and got some. After two days of putting a little on a q-tip and applying it to the incision, it started to close. The top (smaller) hole looks like it's completely closed and the bottom is getting there. It's still open, but soooo much better! Woohoo! lol I can't wait until it's completely healed so I can see if the surgery really helped. I can't tell now because the incision is still sore. :p

:( sorry to hear that. I can't personally imagine the pain that comes with a tailbone removal.

Is there no way to deaden the effected nerves? some ethanol injections? ....not trying to be a doctor as I'd assume this is a year+ -long ordeal for you and you've likely been all over the place with advice...just curious is all.

GL to you.

EDIT: oh shite; after re-reading: the bone was bent. :(
:wine:

you'll be fine though, I'm sure. You're going to a good Ortho center, I hope?

Zin - The doc is pretty good and seems to know his shite pretty well. We have a cousin that's a retired surgeon and quieted our fears when we first heard about surgery and said that it's a pretty simple procedure. I made a mistake the other day, though. I'd already done research on Google about the coccygectomy, but then I did an image search. BIG mistake. After I did that I was like.....ummmmmmm Do I REALLY want to get it done??!??!?? lol But, I'll be under and it'll be gravy and I'll be out of pain once I'm healed so it will be worth it. Right now when I sit, I sit on two coccyx pillows and can't sit for long even that way, so this is definitely better.

Ball - Thank you, and I'm trying. :)

I just moved into my own place a few weeks ago (WOOHOO I live on my own now!!! haha) and I'm trying to finish up getting stuff put away before surgery. My mom is coming over tomorrow to help me finalize things.

Good for you

BTW: never look at surgery images...yikes!

I was interviewing for this web company some time ago that does pre-surgery info service for patients of subscribing physicians: log-in/brief flash animation/simple description...etc. I never worked for them, but I think they had a good idea, hehe.

 for you

Man, I slipped on the stairs and came bang down on my tailbone a few years back, that hurt for a long time. It started immediately, though.
People did look at me funny for the first while when I was bringing a pillow into work :p

It's comforting (or perhaps disturbing) to see that I'm not the only one who fantasizes about "hot monkey love!"

omg, bent tail bone?. You know idk why,,, but "tail bone" sounds cute to me. I kinda always wished I had a tail. Like in those cartoons and i could play halo and hold a cup to my mouth and drink energy drinks.
