Original rumour

Nvidia G80 will make ATI stumble on April. Sources from anonymous mentioned that since the introduction of NV40 which was a very big leap over the defective NV30 with its spectacular features such as Shader Model 3.0 and SLI, in the next couple of months after G71 you will be promised to witness another new spectacular technology that will be brought by Nvidia to 3D Gaming community. It's been almost a year since Nvidia has not really altered much of its architecture just like what we see now in the G70, An increase in pipelines,the intro of MIMD and more vertex units. This is because Nvidia knows that ATI is currently having a hard time fixing and improving their bugged R5xx architecture so it isn't necessary for Nvidia to introduce an incredibly improved architecture. This is what you will see in G71, there will be 32pipes, increase in ROPs and a little speed bump over the coreclock, it is more like an absolute ultra pumped NV40based architecture. In the G80 however, Quad SLI it self can be implemented on a single card with two chips solution because it will carry the first dual core GPU ever with the support of DirectX10 and Shader Model 4.0. The development of G80 is also mentioned as being running very intensive since Nvidia's acquisition over ULi.

* 65nm
* 64 Shader pipelines (Vec4+Scalar)
* 32 TMU's
* 32 ROPs
* 128 Shader Operations per Cycle
* 800MHz Core
* 102.4 billion shader ops/sec
* 512GFLOPs for the shaders
* 2 Billion triangles/sec
* 25.6 Gpixels/Gtexels/sec
* 256-bit 512MB 1.8GHz GDDR4 Memory
* 57.6 GB/sec Bandwidth (at 1.8GHz)
* WGF2.0 Unified Shader

And the war continues..

But G71 with increased amount of ROPs? 24 ROPs? This means that the G71 will have a vital advantage when using HDR or maybe produce a smaller hit when using AA. Either than that 32 pipes.. what do you guys think?

I cant wait... i want benches now...

ATI HAS are already developed a unified pipeline card. Remember the XBOX 360 GPU :! They will have something like that.

No, they are just not good at hiding their problems like others.

you know just when CPU wars died down after the PIII the GPU wars started heat up.
I wonder what ATI has besides the die shrink r590 before the r600 they are running out of core numbers inbetween. Also what type of cpu do you need to not be cpu limited by these quad sli monsters?

Wasn't the g80 supposed to support some form of tile based rendering as well, or utilize an on-die cache? I seem to recall that there was going to be a very big leap with the nv50 (which I Believe is the g80). That'll be an awesome card for sure. The r600 will also be pretty interesting if they include some on-die cache like xenos.

This annoys the hell out of me.
Video card technology is moving TOO fast now.
I just want it back to every 6 months again, so I can feel better about spending so much on these things.
At the moment its like something new is being released every 2+ months. thats just ridiculous!

And April???
If the G71 is due in March, whats that? One month after they'll release the G80?
Come on man, GPU companies are getting too greedy now!

Technically GPUs are already multi-cored. That's why the next step are those dual GPU cards.

I agree and it definitely influences in what I buy from ATI/Nvidia, these last few refreshes I've bought mainly card just under the ultra high end since it seems to give best bang for buck, but yea releasing cards this fast is rediculous, and gives some game devs more reason to pump out poorly coded games like FEAR, COD2....

So are the specs under the quote bar for the R600 then(being the only card talked about as being 65 nm)?

Very interesting rumours. I guess Nvidia is out of luck because those specs are for the ATI card. So you bet it needs dual 32 pipe core just to stay alive.

ATI R600 Specs Revealed

According to recent news, originating in Canada, spread on a few hardware forums the new ATI R600 chip will be released around November/December 2006. The full specs include a stunning 64 shader pipelines, GDDR4 memory and will be built on 65 nm. The full specs leaked are as follows:

65nm
64 Shader pipelines (Vec4+Scalar)
32 TMU's
32 ROPs
128 Shader Operations per Cycle
800MHz Core
102.4 billion shader ops/sec
512GFLOPs for the shaders
2 Billion triangles/sec
25.6 Gpixels/Gtexels/sec
256-bit 512MB 1.8GHz GDDR4 Memory
57.6 GB/sec Bandwidth (at 1.8GHz)
WGF2.0 Unified Shader

OH OH FIGHT !!!

Well when I think of dual core I think along the lines of two GPUs on a single die, each with their own quads.

Looks like the ATI execs will be selling the other half of their stock now. ;)

Hmmmmm

"Quad SLI DX10 card FTW?"
