PE is worthless. Deep down, you know its true. If you had real athletic talent, you'd be playing sports anyway.

If you had real math talent you'd be a mathematician anyway
If you had real literature talent, you'd be writing books anyway
If you had real science talent, you'd be a scientist anyway

My issue with PE was that they did not let athletes opt out of it. I am sorry but if you play a varsity sport, you shouldn't have to take PE. I was lucky in that my senior year was the last they allowed a small loophole. If you wanted, you could take a weight lifting class instead of normal PE so I did that.

I agree with this. No reason I should have to run the mile in PE when I lettered in cross-country.

Weird. My school district was at least smart enough to realize that athletics could be substituted for PE. Sounds like you had a bunch idiots running your district.

Look at how fat we're getting, you have to force the kids to exercise.

At least they're not replacing the gym teacher with Nintendo Wiis.

without PE how will the high school failures from yesteryear try to relive their glory days by trying to mold the newer generation in their failed image? Without health class, how will they provide classes to teach for said failures to justify their salaries?

Two extremely important classes implemented terribly by every school I ever attended. The only thing anyone ever got out of those two classes were "don't have sex with anyone until you're married, abstainence works!" and awkward pubescent teenagers having to share a shower room together.

I'm kind of split on the idea.

Without PE, some people will never know what kind of effort it takes to stay fit. ("OMG, running for a whole minute! I've never done that before!"....)

But on the other hand, they never actually taught anything.. Why not teach us how to make a work-out plan?..and actually use it? Perhaps teach science at the same time.. learn some biology and exactly what the exercise is doing for you. Teach the kids WHY the are running that track every day.

My health class was ridiculous. It was regurgitated stuff about the food pyramid. We weren't taught anything about fat, trans fat, calories.. I still don't know anything about it.

I suspect we just found another ATOT member who was consistently picked last for dodgeball.

No P.E.? Don't some of the kids need to use up some of their energy doing physical activity so they don't jump around in class?

From going to school in a state that required 8 semesters of gym class to graduate, while only requiring 6 of english, 4 of science and 4 of math. I find this a great idea.(only if they up the other requirements)

(supersize me trivia: which state did i go to school in?)

Good guess.

MotionMan

I went to public school and got all that & more.
Of course, it was in Minnesota, which at the time was rated number 5 in the country.
I have no idea where Minnesota public schools stand now, but comparing them to the rest of America is pointless. What does it mean to be the best in a nation full of lazy, spoiled bitches?
They need to start looking at European education systems and take their ideas.

Actually I was always picked close to the top since I was brutal to people in dodgeball :p

I was awful at sports like baseball and tennis where precision matters though because I have really awful depth perception (no natural depth perception) so I was always picked last for those sports.

My sister is going to high school next year and she was telling me about a few of the changes being made next year.

1) PE is not required if your parents sign a waiver

2) Health, which used to be required, is no longer offered

Because these programs have proven to be completely successful. Look at how low America's obesity rate is among baby boomers and.... oh wait nevermind. I guess they were a complete waste of time and money. Carry on.

PE for middle school makes sense

In high school you're old enough to know you should exercise and there is more opportunity for after school sports/teams

Schools suck because they teach memorization when they should teach critical thinking, not because they're cutting PE. Homework is such bs nowadays, remember when schools made you think?

Thas basically what my Health class was, like a mix of classroom PE/Biology/Sex Ed

Assignments included making workout programs, computing calories, nutirition info, etc We even had local paramedics come in and certify the whole class in CPR

But then again I didnt go to a shit public school.
