depends on OS...

I just realized that Win9x cant really address anything more than 128MB, and will give you errors for anything more than 512MB. (its a 'dumb' OS)

Run WinNT or better yet Win2K.

reckon this helps

cheers

Capture doesn't have near the requirements as editing does. Any hard disk that's two years old or newer can capture video from any consumer based product. When you edit the video is where you want the fastest write speed and (free) physical memory for disk caching!

Get all your board can support (768 or 1500).

That's completely false. The VCACHE.VXD has problems when its allowed to allocate more than 511 MB of physical memory. Otherwise, Windows 9x can address huge amounts of ram. (4 GBytes to be exact)

I recommend NT anyways so the point is moot. :)

Cheers!

I have seen this written before, but I've upgraded three of my Win98SE systems from 128 MB to 256 MB and I've noticed improvement on each of them. Thus, I have doubts about the valid of the statement.

I shoulda written more, but i had to leave. Gonna dual boot Win98se and 2k on P3 1ghz, and asus cusl2. The 815e only addresses 512mb of ram. I just plan on transfering my homevideos to VCDs, don't know much about editing. I was just wondering if another 256 would help my capture faster. Also, HD is IBM 75gxp 45gb. Thx
