I read these reassuring articles in this morning's Star Ledger business section.
The total frontal assault on the American middle class led by the Bush administration continues.
I hope there is enough of our economy left to salvage once Bush and Co. are sent packing in 2004.
Companies keep cutting payrolls
Verizon may trim work force by 20,000
Also this business brief from the Star Ledger not posted on their web site.
"Homebuilder to cut jobs"
"Champion Enterprises, the largest builder of prefabricated homes, said it is closing four plants and cutting about 13 percent of its work force as it struggles with poor demand for its homes.
The company said it will post $35 million in restructuring charges, mostly in the third quarter, as well as $39 million in noncash goodwill impairment charges.
Champion said it will also close 35 sales offices, leaving it with 80. About 1,000 emloyees will lose their jobs."
I LMAO when I read the statement Bush made yesterday in Missouri. He said he wouldn't be satisfied until every American who wants a job can find one. You have to look at that statement from the Bush perspective. until every American who wants a job can find one. Americans want to work. Americans must work. They will be forced to take whatever job they can find sooner or later just to keep food on the table. The only jobs they'll be able to find though under Bush's economic policies go something like this, "Would you like fries with your order?"
Along with all this the SEC is conducting several investigations into business as usual by companies like Prudential and Goldman Sachs who along with others continue to operate just as they did before the scandals of last summer which led to the market meltdown we witnessed that Bush swore he'd clean up. Where the hell is John Snow? Oh, probably having lunch with the same folks he used to schmooze with while he led CSX through 5 years of red ink as his salary and bonuses rose by millions.
Prudential probed on mutual funds
Goldman Sachs charged with profiting from illegal tip
Spitzer targets sweetheart deals of funds
Business as usual. The high rollers are raking in the dough any way they can while working people get screwed.
Clean up the markets? Uh huh. Another Bush promise broken. While more decent working people are losing their jobs these criminals just keep playing the same games as they rake in the dough. What a disgrace.
And yes, I place blame directly at the door to the Oval Office.
THE BUCK STOPS THERE!
