More and More Americans going to Canada for Jobs

Are Americans the new Mexicans? JUST KIDDING!

Even though it's not a huge amount of jobs so far, the fact that the amount applying doubled from 2008 to 2010 is pretty crazy, for a big part because "Canada was one of the few to escape the 2008 financial meltdown relatively unscathed, a turn of events largely attributed to Ottawa’s long-standing refusal to deregulate the banking sector."

Lower unemployment and better health care doesn't hurt too!

Also mentions more students coming to school here due to much lower tuitions for still high ranking educations.

The best line: “Your politicians didn’t put you in the same mess that ours did.”

So, Get out of my country!

Just kidding again, Canada welcomes you! Don't let the myth of it being that much colder fool you!

BRING MONEY.

edit: or bring cherry and/or vanilla Coke.

My ex-girlfriend from the states came up here and was offered 110k starting salary at the age of 23.

The market certainly is BETTER up here than it is down there, but it's getting softer as the economic recession becomes more apparent.

What does she do, though? Can't really tell if 110k is a lot unless we know!

Yeah I started making $50k+ at 21 and now am at over $70k with zero post-secondary education, as a Supervisor. And am considered the "golden boy" for the two jobs that are in the $150k range as I learn more.

She didn't take the job, she currently owns her own company and is making more money.

The position offered was as an executive assistant at a company called intellectual ventures. The people before her that occupied that position were making 800k by the age of 30.

Please don't, it isn't far enough away. Pick a place where there will be an ocean between you and the country you hate so much.

Don't worry, gas in Canada is more than $5/gallon. Once he moves here, he can't afford to drive back.

Appreciating an entity does not equate to "hating" the other.

Is your hyperbolic view an ill symptom of exceptionalism? No other may offer what you must excel at?

You might want to do a little background reading on Mclown before you start shooting your mouth off in my direction.

Dave has stated before that he wants the U.S. to become like Somalia. If that isn't hate I don't know what is.

how easy or difficult is it for an american citizen to immigrate to canada?
do they welcome us with open arms?
or do they look at us with disdain?

There's a check list of qualifications and it's a point system. If you have skills like welding, that's worth a lot. If you have an arts degree, you're banned from the country for life and will be shot on site.

Really depends on the type of American you are.

If you are a "FUCK YEAH AMERICA! OIL, WARS AND GUNS FUCK YEAH!" type, please stay at home.

Either way though as MomentsofSanity said, we are very polite about it!

Don't worry, i doubt many republicans are looking to go to Canada.

Silly smug Canadians are about even sillier than smug Scandinavians (who are actually culturally distinct from the US).

The US and Canadian economies are basically the same. The difference is Canadians might have more natural resources per capita and less minorities per capita. If this economy doesn't turn around Canada is going to be just as fucked. There isn't anything magic about Canada's economy that would protect it from what's happening to just about every other Western country.

And Canada is colder, you buffoon.

Except for the fact that in 2008 we already did fair better than the US which means there was something we did that you did not. ie "Canada was one of the few to escape the 2008 financial meltdown relatively unscathed, a turn of events largely attributed to Ottawa’s long-standing refusal to deregulate the banking sector."

We are very connected, but we can still fair better.

Also I said not THAT MUCH colder. 😀 Most Canadians live within 100 miles of the US. It's not a magical 100 mile climate shift. The prairies are cold, but BC / Ontario are pretty similar to Northern states climate wise.

Fact is - Canada has done better than the US throughout this and it shows. We got you beat right now and you can't stand it! It won't last forever obviously, but it's hilarious how upset some Americans get about it.

You are obviously the person I said we did not want around. So please stay at home, until it gets foreclosed. Past that, shelter or cardboard box.

Much of the US population lives more than 100 miles away from Canada. The fact that you're trying to act like Canada isn't that much colder is ridiculous.

The sad thing is you don't realize you're just as dumb as the "FUCK YEAH AMERICA! OIL, WARS AND GUNS FUCK YEAH!" people you complain about. Yeah that's right, you're basically the Canadian version of that kind of jackass.

And you're just an asshat on the internet. You don't get to decide who comes to Canada.

Have a read.

Never seen someone so butt-hurt from a forum post. Americans are coming here for jobs because there are more available, get over it. Your country will recover, but during that recession and since then you failed.

And of course it's much colder if you compare Vancouver to Florida, but it isn't if you compare Vancouver to Seattle! We still get 30+ degree temperatures here! 😀 (you do the math on Farenheit)

I said we don't want your type here, not that you can't come. Just not wanted. But we will still be very polite to you!

So angry!

Thanks for proving the generally perceived stereotype.

On that note, I'm going to go and enjoy my mid 30s weather (that's mid 80s for you guys) and go out on the boat tomorrow.

Shit it sucks being in a country that isn't on the brink of financial meltdown. Oh by the way, at least we can fucking afford $5 dollar gas. Jesus, $3.50 gas and you guys are all screaming bloody murder.

Immigration to Canada in a manner that allows you to take a job is actually pretty difficult. Even the girlfriend, who's from a fellow Commonwealth country, had to return to New Zealand multiple times before she was granted permanent residency (and five years after that is taking her citizenship test). Perversely, it's tough to get a visa to work in Canada and easier to come up here and go on welfare. I guess the fact that most people don't migrate to a cold country to be poor works out for us.

If you aren't an economic immigrant, as in you don't have a currently needed skillset or cannot prove you have $100,000+ that you pledge to invest locally, you're probably going to have a tough time emigrating.

I have some cousins that had or have dual citizenship. parents are american but were living/work in Canada.

And you guys have a raging housing bubble up there right now too. Your banking sector may be better regulated but please watch out!
