Morals vs. Religious Beliefs

Why would one need to be forgiven for the nature that they are born with?

I think "sin" is created by the notion that we are seperate from other people, nature, the earth, and everything beyond. All is well when one can fully appreciate that their presence in the universe is no more important than that of a grain of sand. Such humble and loving people transcend religions, they don't need to hide behind labels.

One question every Catholic/Christian or derivative thereof should ask themselves is:

Am I doing this because I want to become better person and not because I am promised a better afterlife.

They won't go to Heaven, they are just ignorant and think that they will.

Yes they will. All they have to do is confess and say their 5 Hail marys and they'll go to heaven.

I am a believer of Christ, but have a hard time using the term "Christian" for that isn't something that I am "Christ-like", but something I esteem to be and fall very short even on my best days. I also feel the extremely religious do a disservice to Christ and his message for the world when they wear that label as something that only comes from their mouths. Saying one thing and doing another is the very definition of hypocrisy and that is the last thing followers of Christ should be. Please don't judge Him by the actions of the weak (me included most of the time). Be an example before you don the title. (At least thats how I feel).

Christian doesn't mean 'Christ-like,' it means 'of Christ.'

I stand corrected.

Although I get my definition from this verse "the disciples were first called Christian in Antioch". And a disciple is one who believes and practices the disciplines of another.

Christians are suppose to draw people to Christ by setting a good example. People are suppose to see the love and good that Christians do and say "I want some of that!" Sadly, it just doesn't happen too much these days

Well, people exemplifying (is that how you say it?) good, loving behavior doesn't draw me to Christ, it just draws me to good, loving behavior. 🙂

Anyway, as has been said several times in the thread already, I have no problem with anyone's beliefs as long as they have no problems with mine.

Is it right to say you are a christian do anything that you want to do then say five Hail Marys and you will goto heaven ??

funny thing is, i have better morals and more integrity than quite a few of the people i met in college, and they were generally devout christians. *shrug* oh well.

Of course you're better than them. Humble, too!!

Hey, pal, here's a clue - everyone thinks they're 'moral' or 'ethical', however they define it. Plenty of Nazis slept just fine at night.

back to the point, i hate christians because they never or hardly ever practice what they preach...their "morals" are derived from the bible and they dont know how to choose between right and wrong unless its in the bible. i make my own decisions, and i stick to them, because they are mine, and the only thing that affects my morals is me, myself, and i

Hey, guess what? Ted Bundy, Adolf Hitler, and Jeffery Dahmer made their own decisions, too. That's really not all that impressive. It matters less that you "make your own decisions", and matters more what those decisions are.

hypocrisy reigns supreme sadly with a lot of "christians and other devoted peoples" I think it is one thing to believe in something and something completely different in being able to practice your beliefs and radiate your morals b/c of it.

Hypocrisy reigns supreme among humanity.

I don't like evangelism either. let people decide for themselves what they want to believe

All people have free will; therefore, all people do decide for themselves what they want to believe.

is it right? Of course not. Its not right that the church hides the pedophiles either. But that is what most poeple do. They do bad stuff, they confess, they're then sinless. See hotchic's post, they explained it better than me.
