What I've experienced in my own life is every time I've taken a freebie like in OP's situation, I've very shortly afterwards without fail been screwed over threefold.

I ordered something and it was shipped to the wrong address. After speaking to both FedEx and the company that I purchased from, unless the recipient returned it, I was going to be SOL and have to pay for another one.
You could keep it and sell it and buy yourself a whole new rig, or return it and do someone a nice gesture. If you believe in karma, do the latter, if not, the former.

The people I know with this mind set have done some prison time
i say, email them once. phone them once and after a couple of weeks if no response give them a 2nd chance and if still they do not reply .. keep the cpu.
as for shipping FUBAR storys. I have 2 portable AirConditioning units. after 2yrs one broke. had a 5y compressor warranty. end of story they sent me a new AC unit. I get a small box delivered from purolator. I look inside and lol - it was a coffee maker. called them up and thanked them for the coffee maker but i was supposed to get an AC unit.
in the end i got a 10000btu ac in replacement for my old 9000btu. and they told me to keep the coffee maker for all my troubles.
and to add..about finding money. one day an off duty cop was out walking his dog. finds a large duffel bag stuffed with cash (~900,000$) turned it in and had to wait i think 3 months for the owner to claim it. no one did. he got to keep it.

Even if NewEgg had never screwed me over on the hard drives I'd only send it back if they issued a "call tag" so you don't get screwed into paying return postage. It is their mistake not yours...

Legally its yours. Anything mailed to you without your consent can be considered a gift. Its a long standing consumer protection law.
For the the moral issue, I'd at least attempt to give it back. They better be prepared to send a shipping tag and arrange a pickup so I don't have to drive to a depot. You guys can call me a dick or whatever, but this is what I would personally do. Hold on to the chip for 30 days without opening it, waiting for newegg to e-mail/contact you. If they don't then I think it's fair you can keep it. It's their own mistake they shipped it to the wrong address, so why should you have to go through the trouble of calling them up to fix their problems. But ultimately it's up to you.
Just keep it, im serious. They wont believe you anyways.
I ordered a video card from them once and got another guys order, which actually contaned a better video card a mobo and a PSU.
I called them up and told them what happened, even gave them the invoice number for the order which i had recieved in error and they didnt believe me, spent 5 min trying to explain it and would not believe me. When i asked to talk to a supervisor since the level 1 idiot i was talking to obviously had 0 brain cells he got down right rude to me. So i asked him one final time to arrange to have it picked up, or ship me prepaid lables and i would even drive it to the courior depot myself and drop it off, he claimed again that it was impossible and his computer showed i got the right order.
So i hung up and kept it.

The irony of the situation given the meaning behind NewEgg's name is great.
I agree with many others. Peace of your mind is what matters in the end. If you're comfortable with keeping it, then do so. If not, do what you can to return it. Apparently their customer service doesn't like accepting the fact that they make packing/shipping mistakes. If you run into this just graciously back off and know that you've earned a reward for trying to be honest.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. The box was addressed for me, but the content inside along with the invoice was for someone else. I had ordered a HDD to use as a backup and received 2 video cards along with some other stuff. When I called them they told me no way this could have happened and refused to provide a return shipping label or what I actually ordered. I hung up and decided to just sell all of it and re-ordered the HDD this time on Amazon.
All I wanted was the HDD and tried to do the right thing by wanting to send the significantly more expensive stuff back, but they refused to believe me. To me it's amazing how stupid a company/people can be sometimes.

I received an email back within literally 3 minutes - "What is the model number, is it opened?"
Me: "Model number xyz, and yes its been opened" (I had to peek at it )
Anyhow, some more back and forth, received a pre-paid shipping label and RMA form. At no point did they "not believe" me or give me a hard time. Clearly they just want the item back.
They did not offer me anything in exchange for my time/effort so I asked for something and they offered a $15 gift card which I accepted.

Gotta be honest, it seems a little backhanded to me to turn around and ask for compensation. Its like finding someone's lost item and then on the verge of giving it back saying "Oh by the way, was there a reward for this?"
