I think people who don't like hunting for ethical reasons aren't thinking about the big picture. At least when you hunt something in the wild it has had a really good life instead of just being kept up in a small pen and being fed its whole life. Its like "free-range chickens" but a whole lot more free range.

Factory farming is 100000000000000000000000000000X more cruel than hunting.. yet it seems like most hunting activists will eat factory farmed meat, eggs or dairy.

it's a shame it didnt run u over

it's a shame that you are an asshat. Get over it, if you dont like hunting, then dont come in the post...as it was clearly stated "not for non hunters, etc." it amazes me how people are okay with butchering cows, fish, lamds, sheep, and what not but shoot a moose or deer and they get their panties all in a bunch!

i cant really go against killing animals for food consume... but if u r just killing them for fun thats not right... maybe im just living in a nutshelll...

I dont shoot animals for fun, I like to eat venison, moose, patridge, fish, etc.
It is healthier, and it keeps me form having to visit the supermarket too much...

why do you some of you people get in the op's sh!t? unless you are a hardcore vegan you eat meat, and where the f*ck do you thing meat comes from? an animal.

and if anybody like beef jerky, try venison jerky - it is soooo goood. i will drive 200mi out of my city to get it up north. :D

iamtrout - i hope you are joking about how to store the meat. how do you store any meat? like Eli says, in a freezer. and your idea of how you would kill it (i hope you are joking) would cause much stress and pain to the moose. the way SaigonK killed it was nearly painless and it was probably dead by the time it hit the ground.

krnxpride83 - the op stated several times that he eats the meat, thus this is not killing for fun.

anno - as far as taking the pic first, the moose would probably hear the sound of the camera, depending on how close you are and possibley scare it away. animals senses are so much better adapted than ours because they live in a constant eat/be lunch for another predator so they are always on alert.

Eli - the meat won't be virtually free at first. over time if you keep up with it the price will come down. there is the price of the equipment, but if you know somebody who does hunt, you could probably buy some off them for a decent price. :D

SaigonK - you say the meat is really lean, is it lean like chicken/turkey? does it have a lot of cholesterol? do you prefer moose over deer?

i prefer moose over deer, deer is usually a bit stroner in taste, moose is so much beter.
Compared to a steak, moose is so much better for you.

A normal steak is 6-7% fat while a moose steak is only .5% fat...quite a difference!
A 3/4 pound moose steak has over 100grams of protein in it.

Chicken and Turkey actually have more fat than moose...

So it's a bit gamey in flavor? Showed my friend this thread and now he is really interested in trying moose meat. Describe the flavor in Iron Chef Judge style please. :wine:

Well, thats your opinion, if you dont like hunting moose, then you should not have read this post I guess.
As I said before, and apparently I keep needing to say this...I am no trophy hunter, i am not interested in hunting to get pelts, or horns, etc. I like deer/moose/patridge meat because it is better tasting and better for me than a regualr steak or chicken.

i dont let the animal go to waste, if I am not going to eat it, i make sure someone will. If I cant find a friend or relative to eat the food, then i give it away to those who are less fortunate.

30-06 - 190 grain bullets. One shoot, one kill....in the neck, which broke his neck and he just dropped no need to do anything more than that.
Most any rifle will do the trick if you get the shot right.

Nice shot! How long have you hunted?

hmm never had the chance to try moose.

but then we do not have many moose down here in IL. they hide about as well as the elephants we got.

I been a hunter for about 10 years now. I always eat what i kill. I hate people that kill the animal just to mount its head or something. Got a nice empty freezer just begging for some Venison! hope i get one this year.
