I'm certainly not a WCG expert, but my understanding is that if your computers are relatively new and not yet "trusted", they have to be validated by a wingman, and that can take a while sometimes. (I have 21 pages of results waiting for validation, for example.)

Eventually, when the computers become trusted, then you don't have to wait for validation of results.
I have been running forever, and I have 98 pages pending validation

There seem to be different methods of validation in place, depending on the project:

World Community Grid - Help

We perform three different types of validation at World Community Grid:

  • Redundant Computations: In this type of validation, two copies of the work unit are sent to members devices. Once both results are returned, they are compared to ensure that the results are identical. If they are, then the result is accepted. If they are not identical, then additional copies are sent until several devices agree on what the result should be. This policy establishes a very high level of confidence in the reliability of the results. Mapping Cancer Markers and Uncovering Genome Mysteries are examples of projects that use this technique.
  • Single Validation - Type 1: In this type of validation, only one copy of a work unit will be sent to a device if the device is "trusted", that is, if it has been participating long enough and returning good results. If the device is not trusted, then it will still be assigned the work unit, but a second copy will be sent to another device and the rules for redundant computation above apply. As a precaution, the research code computes certain items that allow us to quickly check on the server if the computation is likely to have finished correctly. Additionally, trusted devices are randomly sampled to have their results double-checked. These techniques provide a very high level of confidence in the reliability of the results. FightAIDS@Home and Outsmart Ebola Together are examples of projects that have used this technique.
  • Single Validation - Type 2: This is similar to Single Validation - Type 1 except that due to the fact that different results are generated each time the work unit is run (due to the research techniques applied in the application), we send out many copies of each work unit. We currently do not have any research projects utilizing this technique.

So, we'll all have to wait, and some results generated near the end of the challenge might not get validated in time to actually generate credit.

Anyhow, this makes the "race" quite unpredictable... More surprises, and more fun

This just in: Planned Maintenance on Thursday, April 8
We will be applying an important operating system update to our servers on Thursday, April 8, beginning at 15:00 UTC. We anticipate that the work will take approximately four hours.

During some of this time, volunteers will not be able to upload or download new work, and the website will not be accessible.
15:00...~19:00 UTC = 11:00..~15:00 EDT = 08:00...~12:00 PDT

1,462 OUCH!
I figured you werr just sandbagging and we should expect big things soon!

We need much more to 3x Marky Mark!

Everyone, remember that puters that don't have wifi communicate nothing if you unplug the network cable. I hope to do better....

One old 4 thread laptop fan is dead, RIP. One of same vintage finally is spitting out wu every 7.5 hours or so... So yes, I'm still taking names! Just don't know which ones yet 🤐

My average 3900x is going a unit every 1:45 ! 23 at a time.... Oh, and I have 4 of those. My 5950x is doing the same work unit every 1:29 but 31 at a time ! my 7742's are taking 3 1/2 hours but 128 at a time ! (and I have 3 of those) My 7601's are doing it in 3 hours. And 128 at a time. But they take twice the power of the 7742's.

Just to give you an idea.

Well you are lucky Sir. My Samsung GALAXY! S4! has a bad power connector and will only stay powered on if you hold the cord into the wind while standing on your head. So that old thing is out also. I am losing old junk fast.

So here is to the future of threads thrashed! Just not soon or this year? This pandemic is slowing down the TeAm!

I've got more money to burn and time for the first time in years and I can't do anything I want with it.... Maybe an ES Epyc build, but I tend to shut down most heat sources soon as I don't have whole house A.C.... Trying to fire up old 2 core / 4 thread laptops is not that exciting and with spinning rust it is very time consuming and did I say not exciting...... or power efficient.

I'm going to go look for that Athlon 64 lappy now. I think the fan worked last I remember. :) I will admit that these puters are faster than my paper maths... I found the 1.2 ghz Athlon tower. I think it last ran at 1.333 ghz and windows 2000. Think it can crunch something before time is out?

Buy one or two of these. They only take 225 watts and do 128 threads at a time. If you get 2, that 256 @!!!

Yea, my 3950x is killin the work, everything else is slower, I was figuring those 5950x must be rocking along with 2nd gen EYPCs
no 3rd gens yet? Showoff lol
Nice to at least hear about the speeds for comparison sake yaknow...

thanks

On a related note, the next Formula BOINC sprint has been announced, and the project is...World Community Grid! No, that was not intentional. ;)

It starts tomorrow morning at 8:00 UTC and ends at 7:59 UTC on 4/12. So it will overlap our team event by a couple of days and if you want to keep running WCG for an extra day to finish the FB sprint, feel free to do so. Or switch to the PrimeGrid Yuri's Night Challenge (GPUs and CPUs: WW, 3 days) that runs from 4/11 - 4/14 (18:00 UTC) starting about 13 hours after our team challenge ends on the 11th. Or you can of course just switch to any other project(s) that you want to run...

For those thinking of abandoning this challenge because of the sprint decision made at FB, please don't.

Let them think what they may on FB. Don't let the antics that are sure to come, bother what we do here.

It is already too late to avoid the unavoidable.

I'll keep racing too. We're having fun here, so why stop? :) Also, I have to give someone a run for his money ;)

I'm sure there will be some silly drama. But our team race was planned and announced while the FB site was broken and before the sprint vote was even finalized. And we had already decided not to formally focus/participate in the sprints by that time anyway.

I don't think we should let it interfere with our fun. So if someone wants to complain, they can bite my hairy bovine back side! (Figuratively, of course. Gotta maintain that 6-foot social distancing, still. ;))

Endgame, coming for you again! The old 4 thread laptop was taken off-line due to the "owner" forgetting to shut off Windows update. So there is a serious amount of almost finished work coming soon!

How are we doing on 3x Marky Mark? I'm trying to copy and paste the stats, but I get a weird character throwing off my import.
