I don't recall mentioning the price of those anywhere in my post. I don't care what they cost. If they charged 2 grand for those cones, they still would not be highend. The point was that you basically said the drivers were not important since the other parts of the speaker were good. That's obviously false information that anyone who knows anything about speakers would rebutt.

The drivers in that are $16 for each woofer and $30 for the tweeter...I wouldn't call that "high end". nice...yes..;)

You realize how critical the crossover is?

Come on now... the Scanspeak Revelator is a $200 tweeter... but systems that use it go for $15,000. You're point? You should know that drivers aren't the only thing that make a speaker...

the crossover in that speaker costs $30 max. Just saying that the drivers are lacking. I said nothing about the crossover quality. You said they were high end. I just can't call them high end with $16 drivers

You mean that's how you interpreted it. All the parts of those speakers are good. I'm just saying if two people made the exact engine with the exact same metals, but one paid more for the metals, would that make the engine better? To mean performance comes in this form -> sweep response and system impedance

if you had a $50 CPU that kicked the ass of a $500 CPU in every single benchmark, does that make the $50 cpu low end?

The price is irrelevant. Those aren't highend anymore than a riced up Toyota Celica would be considered an exotic import.

Exotic high-end. Since Pariah brought up exotic. :p Nothing like a cabinent made out of marble.

And since driver price is an issue to some members of this board, the 5.5" Scan-speak 15W/8530K-00 woofer in that are $174ea, and puts out more bass than a lot of 10" subs, and the tweeter is one of the best in the world, The Scan-speak Revelator D2905/9900 which are $208ea

:p
High-end yet?

if you'll notice before you posted I changed it too "In that speaker" which I originally intended as you can make a crossover as expensive as you want practically. There is some relation between cost and performance. All I am saying is that $16 are not high end. I am not calling those speakers bad....calm down...its ok.

High-end yet?

Wont the marble crack from the rapid high and low vibrations?

Actually I posted that before you edited it. But I was already in the process of adding 'make it two' It's not like I refresh the page while I have a reply tab open. :p I think 'high-end' is also a little open to interpretation. ^^

lamp cord is cheap. 16guage, and is superior to the cr@p wire they give u with the speakers. you can get solderless 3.5mm jacks at radioshack, they use little screws instead. thats what i did a while back. course if ur even lasier u can just buy speaker wire with one end with 3.5mm jack...frys has em..rca or ge, i forget. also cheap.course they use 18 or 20 guage like the stuff that comes with klipsch..

i dunno if its gonna solve ur problem. scratchiness when you turn volume knob is dirt in the control... buzziness on certain notes on a certain speaker is blown speaker.

I think they actually do sell lamp cord that is oxygen free at places like homedepot. You have to make sure that's what you're getting though, because you're certainly right because some isn't.

Not sure on ropewound though :)

I just got a bunch of 12 gauge for pretty cheap when I got my speakers.

I want to know what Googer's take on them is... junk or quality

Worth of 5 bids? Yes! But I won't spend that much on them. I am a part-time audiophile I know enough about it but, Honestly I know more about PC's than high end audio. Since it's something I won't be buying untill the lotto man comes knocking at my door.

Localy here in Tampa there is a place just down the street from Busch Gardens on Busch Blvd Called Sensious Sound Systems. On the outside it looks plain-jane but walk inside and you will be lost inside of a palace of high end stuff worth Millions of Dollars. It's an amazing place. You have not heard great audio untill you have set foot in Tampa's hidden Hi-Fi Mecca!
