Monoprice lost my business

Used to buy a lot of cables from monoprice, quality was great.. was looking to get a bunch more, about $25 worth. They wanted $30 to ship these, are they serious ? The cables maybe weigh 2 pounds at most if that.

They used to ship parcel post, now it's all 2-day priority and above. When i called them, there answer was that's the way it is.

Goodbye monoprice.
 
Funny thing is that parcel post and priority mail on a package that size is less than a dollar difference.

ebay is a great source for cheap cables, usually better than Monoprice.
 
Ah, the ol' Ebay trick. I remember a friend I knew in high school who was really into magic the gathering that thought he was getting a good deal on magic cards for 99 cents on ebay but the shipping was like $5. When he got it it came in like a regular stamp and envelope. Pretty sure that shipping wasn't what the seller said it was. 😛
 
I always thought Monoprice shipping prices were high.....

But I will say that some of their cables are heavy (depending on the length) and quantity.

Same goes for wall mounts, most of the time shipping is more than the item itself (and it probably should be, again they are heavy).

They are right with what USPS charges. I don't know why they don't negotiate better terms though.

I love their cables. Every time I order I get much higher quality than I was expecting.

Wall mounts are a different animal, those are big AND heavy. But you can easily ship 20 pounds of cables in a flat rate box coast-to-coast via priority mail for like $11. It looks like Monoprice is using the old trick of every item getting a shipping charge. 10 cables can ship as cheaply as 5, but they're charging more for each additional cable just to pad profits.

OP, usps rates have gone up probably more than you realize. They basically pushed everyone to priority. I ship Fedex ground most if the box is over 2 pounds usually.
 
I ordered a few cables from Monoprice in January. One order was 3 HDMI cables. (premium, not "regular") and shipping was $8.62, the other order was one of their premium TOSLINK cables. Shipping was $2.99.

IMO, not outrageous at all.
 
I did a quick experiment

8 random cables, 6 pounds, $34 worth

shipping: $10
2nd day: $22
next day: $39

What products are you trying to ship?!

Yeah, I've been ordering a lot of the "Amazon Basics" cables lately...two 6' HDMI cables for under $10 shipped in 2 days with Prime, hard to beat...

Lots of HDMI cable deals if you just wait for the Newegg deals. Yeah the cables are super cheap quality wise, but they do the job. You can get 6' cables for ~$1.50 each shipped.

I got a bunch of 10' ones at $3/each, but they go as low as ~$2.
 
I don't know what site you're looking at, but monoprice has 3-5 day shipping available for me, at a whopping $9. For 10 6ft HDMI cables, next day is $35. I think you are doing something wrong or not being completely honest on what you're buying.

Why don't you tell us the total weight of your order, because it shows it on the cart.

I just did 100 cables (47lbs) and it is now over $37 to ship.
 
I'm with the O.P. shipping cost gouging is a piss poor business model and I won't do business with people who employ such tactics.
 
I used to buy tv mounts from monoprice because no one else had cheap ones. Since then, you can get cheap ones from Walmart.com AND Amazon.com ($10-25).

For cables, I buy from o.co because they offer CHEAP shipping and decent cables. Typically, you can get 2 or 3 packs of 6ft HDMI cables for $6-10. I've not bought any in a while though.
 
I just got a micro HDMI cable last week from monoprice. 3-5 day shipping was around $3, iirc. I guess I'd be disappointed if I got 10 cables and they couldn't ship them all in one package at a reasonable price.
