I'm sorry you lost your job man. That sucks. I can't believe someone actually took a print out WITH your e-mail into the Omax store. That's incredibly stupid. I respect that you are not asking for a boycot of Omax, and I can only speak for myself, but from this point forward, I choose not to shop there (unless I am POSITIVE they are not making money on the transaction). Office Depot is my new supplier for office supplies. Good luck finding another job. I've been there, done that. It isn't fun, but I'm sure you will find one quickly.

Nack

PS: To the Max Orifice that took a printed copy of NeoV's profile to Office Max - YOU SUCK, and you know who you are. Think about what you did, and live with it. (yes, I know that was not productive, but it is true).

OMFG! NeoV, I feel so terrible for you... this is just bull$hit. "Lost labor"? Why, because there was more customers in their store for the CSR's to help? One employee being on the internet for a bit during the workday? Oh, that NEVER happens!

Maybe a lot of people here ended up not buying something when they didn't find a deal, but I thought retail stores kind of liked having customers COME IN TO their store, trying to BUY things - at prices that were NOT set by NeoV!!!

NeoV, it is true that to some extent you brought this on yourself. But considering you had been there for eight years and AFAIK did nothing illegal (although perhaps improper), I think firing you was a bit harsh. Like I said, you didn't set the prices... you just told people what the prices/availability might be and got people in the stores. Sounds like free advertising to me!

To the jackasses that got us to where we are now: before, it was just annoying because you ruined the deals for the rest of us. Now, you've actually cost someone his job. Think twice - no, wait - just THINK before you run into a store crying your little eyes out about not getting some monitor or fscking Palm Pilot you don't even need for 75% off. Some people might get it, because they are LUCKY. But no one owes you anything. Be happy with the deals you get. If you're too goddamned stupid to realize that printing out a thread from the internet (much less someone's fscking e-mail address) has basically no chance of helping you get your deal, and is only going to cause problems, then you should be removed from AnandTech, if not the gene pool.

NeoV, good luck finding a new job.

Damn this is horrible news. 8 years working there and they fire you just like that. I hope who ever brought his info to the store reads this thread and realizes what a dumb and awful thing they have done. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors NeoV. Thanks for the great deals from, "that place" (even though I haven't been able to take advantage of them :p). I look forward to seeing you post here.

Neo,

I am sorry... :( I don't know what to say. Firing you for this is wrong. you will get a better job. I know you don't want us to boycott OMAX, but I have to do it because I believe what they did to you is wrong. No more OMAX for me.

Sorry about the job man, thanks for trying to help us out.
I don't know, if it was me I would have lied and said I didn't do sh!t. Unless you used an Orafice Max email address. It's too bad the moron took the thread to the store, it's totally his fault. But you really should have claimed it wasn't you, it's tough to prove who owns an email address. I doubt they would have went through the trouble as well.

Good luck man, that place sucks anyway.

I'm also boycotting and so will my family. I purchase all my company office supplies form OM so I will switch to OD unless NEO is rehired. This is clearly not a dismissable offense. It disgusting that someone can lose a job over something so trivial.

NeoV,

It upsets me greatly to read about the events that led to you losing your job with OMX. I really can't beleive the stupidity some person/people had...to go to extreme lengths of copying threads from anandtech and then even giving your email information to OMX management.

WTF was this person thinking!!!

I truely hope that you find a wonderful position with a company that meets your financial and career needs...

Good Luck Dude

I would like to thank neov for the palm I got a couple of weeks ago. I think I had to drive 400 miles that day to find one though.:) I can tell you though that after driving 2 hours to the second store I didn't complain when they told me they had one on hold for a fellow anandtecher and the floor model with missing pieces. After talking nicely to him I he found a hot cradle for it somewhere and I walked out with a big smile.:D

My uncle always says there is a sucker born every minute. It is evident that we could say that there is a new idiot registering every hour.;)

Oh if it was you scab man I'll meet you at the office max tomorrow and bring your gloves. Boxing gloves that is. :p

NeoV I am sorry to hear about this and hope you will get a better job.

My first post with you guys. I'm from Montreal, Canada, and obviously could not get most of your hot deals. I managed to buy a Canon printer at Staples for almost nothing and have it sent to a p.o. box in Vermont, but it cost me almost $30. of fuel for the trip, plus customs...However I enjoyed what I could read on this forum, so far, until today. Now let's go to the point ( sorry for my so-so english, I'm french canadian):

I'm incredibly sorry for Neo. It is true he was taking a calculated ( ? ) risk by posting the deals while at work. It is also true that he was surely disgressing (?, is this the right word to say he was crossing the fence?) company policies. However he chose to do it, still, because he believed that other people from this forum could benefit from it and he did not think once that someone, somewhere, would try to sell him to make sure he/she would have his/her darn monitor. What happened here is so disgusting that I will most likely check the hot deals somewhere else as a result. I've seen too many greedy people on this forum already, from the ones who want to sue for not having their 1000 zip drives for one penny to the Egayers who try to snatch all the hot deals before everyone else. I just can't believe somebody could be so low as to sell the one who feeds his/her hand, just to get the toy he/she wants. But this seems to be human nature. And as a result, somebody just put a young father into a jobless situation, with all the stress associated with this, and also with a bad note on his employment record that will haunt him for a while. This is so disgusting. If only the person who did this could be traced, and banned forever from all forums, and that still will not bring back Neo's job.

Animals are brighter than many people who use this forum.

Last, I wish Neo the best of luck, in finding a new challenge. I wish I could do more. I also ask whoever did this to be a man ( if he is one), take his responsibilities, and tell this forum who he is, why did he do it, and then ask mods to be banned forever. That would be the least he could do to try to repair somehow the damages he did. And he should publicly ask Neo to forgive him.

This should have never happened.

Hopefully, a lesson will be learned from this. To all of you, think twice, next time. And God bless you.

I am sorry to hear that you were fired over something as petty as browsing the internet on-duty. At most, I think it should have resulted in a stiff warning (unless you received a warning about that type of behavior earlier on) and some small punishment like a pay cut. I find it admirable that you are willing to maintain a level of loyalty to OfficeMax even after being fired, by asking others to withhold their complaints and taking responsability for your actions.

I personally would have boycotted the local officemax stores in my area if it were not for the fact that I both never shopped there to begin with (as Staples and OfficeDepot had better deals regularly), and that all of the several OfficeMax stores in my area are closing down (well, I guess I wasn't the only one who didn't shop there).

Good luck to you and your family.

I've seen a lot of people say they will boycott OMX..... That isn't going to help NEO with a baby on the way......... geez we ruined someone's life here!!!!!!!

Of all the people here someone needs to find him a job!!!! Come on people!!! One of our OWN needs help!!! Isn't that what this F#$king forum is all about? Helping others get great deals...

I am also suggesting we start a Paypal or some kind of fund for Neo and his burgening NEO family! I for one owe him for a lot of great deals over the years.....

Come who's in for 5 or 10 bucks for NEO?

I am very sorry to hear what has happened to you. Unfortunately, as I state in other forums, this is exactly why I don't (or rarely) post any information anymore.

There are those here, and elsewhere, who will lie, steal, cheat and basically destroy someone to get something. I've seen it happen too many times. From those that will steal stuff out of people's carts, to those who will shove others down in a store to grab something. (As a side note: I've seen both happen, and on the shoving incident it was a soccer-[censor] from MyCoupons - how do I know? I saw the pic in the profile)

Of course, there are those, who think that the almighty DOLLAR rules the world. They care about no one but themselves and how much $$$ they have in their bank account. Money is what they love, and who cares who gets hurt in the end as long as they have an extra 50 cents at the end of the day.

Stuff like this just sickens me.

NeoV - sorry I can not help with a new job. I shop OM weekly for our business and love any deals we get. By your response to the OM?s action you seem very honest so it seems very harsh treatment for what you did.

Looks like I am going to return the latest deal and our other recent purchases I can dig the receipts out for and will do my shopping at OD now ? sorry but every visit to OM now will bring a sour taste - no big dent to OM but I will see if several other buyers I know will do the same.

Find this person out? Does anyone here think that only one person got NeoV fired? I bet there were dozens. I know that when I went to my local OM hoping that I might somehow get the TFT I was told that three other people had already been there and asked about the same SKU. Two had waited outside the door for it to be unlocked. Thankfully, it seems none of these people became rude or obnoxious when the monitors were not there. The woman I spoke to was not upset, just wondering why so many people had come in in the hour they'd been open asking about the same SKU. I told her simply that something had been posted on the Internet, but that it clearly had not been accurate. This satisfied her curiousity. We joked around a little about how much people will run around on the off-chance a rumored great deal is true, and that was that.

Why am I recounting all of this? Even polite people attract notice when a bunch of them all ask about the same deal. It seems that hundreds of people went after these deals. Think just one of these hundreds got in a manager's face with all of the info printed out? Judging from the posts to these forums, at least 10% of the people here have enough screws loose to do such a thing. So I'd guess that somewhere between five and ten people did this enough to inspire the manager to hunt down NeoV. The hundreds of polite people simply wasting employees time (me among them) also contributed a little. When all of this came together at HQ, we have our very unfortunate result. There's a good chance that the first idiot only ALMOST cost NeoV his job, as indicated in the current first post. After all, one is just random noise in nearly all cases. It was idiots two through ten that got him the boot. I suspect this is why he did not immediately lose his job--it took a little while for complaints from all the stores to accumulate.

So while some of us are definitely more to blame than others, anyone who went into an OM with these SKUs may have contributed a little. I also wonder about the wisdom of getting enraged at someone because they got enraged at OM. This is the same kind of response that got NeoV fired in the first place.

Look at NeoV's most recent posts. Does he seem enraged? The guy lost his job at a very bad time. I know I'd be really upset. But no, he remains even-tempered and reasonable. A good model for us all, and clearly an excellent employee. Hopefully someone here can help him get a new, better job.

Note to NeoV: this is more likely if it is clearer which city you need a job in.

NeoV -

Sorry to hear you lost your job. This goes back to my original post, do not tell a Store employee you found a deal on a forum. The bad part is I am Sure others will now hesitate in putting "privledged" info on the board.

While my heart goes out to NeoV I understand why he was let go. Before any one starts calling Office Max and boycotting understand this, He gave us info that was not intended for us to have. It does help the clearenced stuff sell quicker, however it also makes it impossible to sell this stuff at full retail. Think of the magnitude of this board, I lurked for quite a while before joining and I am sure they get 1000000 hit a day. how many of you tell friends /co-workers about the deals? The bottom line was Office Max was entitled to let NeoV Go. He released info that was "Privledged". This is something that most company think is an indcation of a charector issue. I don't agree with their choice but I do understand it. This is a warning to all of you who are privy to this type of info. It pains me to say this but there are people who don't care about others if it means they can get a better deal and save a few dollars. All the ranting and raving, (yes I do It) , does no good because people are only concerned with themselves. Folks you lost a Great resource due solely to people being greedy.

May NeoV find a better Job in the near future and good luck on the new Child!

Neov,
I would also like to offer my sympathy and support to you.

-Granted, I'm a newbie here, but it doesn't take much common sense to see the effects of such an irresponsible action. :(

To be honest, I've always shopped OD, it's only a couple blocks from home.

A curse on whomever is responsible for this!

NeoV:

I am sorry for you. Best wishes to you.

Some people on this forum are taking those hot deal post for granted. If you don't post that's fine, as long you don't screw up some else's life. :|
