When I went to the store in Merriam, KS, the electronics guy said that 6 other people already came in, some with printouts of the webpage in hand, etc, asking the clerks to check each and every sku for monitors they might have in stock

Total and utter morons.

I had called the store previously and asked them if they had any 19 inch mirage monitors, 8250's in stock. He verified he had some 19 inch monitors, then came back saying yes, they were the older 8250s, not the other newer model. When I finally went to the store, all they had were the newer models, still "held back" for me. Totally freaking lame. I had verified on the phone with the guy they were the older model, then they pulled the switcheroo on me. The electronics guy on the day I went in said that if he hadnt sold all the older ones Friday and Saturday, he would have bought the rest and put them on e-bay. That is total bullshit. I think its lame as hell since I had verified they had the older stock, had them hold them for me, then when I get there they had sold them and one of the employees said to my face he would have bought them anyway and put them on e-bay. People just have no morals or decency and just look out for themselves. It makes me sick.

Slag--

I just checked out your "eGay References", and JEEZ, how many Sharp 770s did you get your hands on??

Do you work for OD or something?

;)

NeoV--it was a good ride. I remember your 15" TFT thread from last summer. Never got my hands on one, but I appreciate all you did for the board.

Man, if this isn't the most boneheaded thing I've heard, it sure ranks up there with the best of them. Son of a %#@%!, 6 people with printouts??! I guess the larger this board gets, the more caution gets thrown to the wind.

Get a clue, people.

Slag, I'm also shaking my head that you called ahead of time and really expected the monitor to be there for you. Nothing personal, but for these kind of prices, you've got to play a better hand.

I laughed when someone once posted (once tacit) HOT DEALS rules for dummies.. but maybe it's time we had some common sense training again.

1) Don't call customer service.
2) Don't call customer service.
3) Don't ruin the deal for others.
4) There is no #4.

Now some tool pushed the limits and went on some crusade to screw over a decent and heroic member of Anand... Grrr!! $%#@%@#$!! :|:|:|

NeoV, thanks for being cool and helpful. I salute your efforts and pray many thanks that you still have your job. I hope the future will hold good things for you in return for the service you've rendered us in the past.

Well if anyone wants to know where a lot of the idiots are located at, they are unfortunately here in Austin, TX! :| :| :|

I went in with 2 sku's memorized and asked a worker there to look for it. After a bit of searching the worker said he'll need to contact the manager about these items because they may be in the back but the manager needs to get them. The manager came out and said:

"Oh, I'm sorry but we don't have any of those. Today, we had 10 people come in and ask for them. Some of them had a printout of a message board where someone alledgely from Office Max corporate posted these monitors at these prices. Sorry, but that person is lying since we don't have any stock here."

THEN THE MANAGER WHIPS OUT A COPY OF THE THREAD that he said one of the people let him have. *sigh* :(

Then the manager proceeds to say:

"5 of the people had a printout like this with them and I got one from them and copied it. After looking through this, none of them are here at my store."

SOME PEOPLE NEED TO GET A F*CKING BRAIN. DON'T BRING IN A PRINT OUT OF THE THREAD LET ALONE GIVE IT TO A MANAGER AT THE STORE!!!!!!!!!!!

Some things that needs to be done:

1. Don't tell everyone and anyone about Anandtech especially those Big-mouth, tiny-brained idiots.
2. Don't alert the people who work at the store about the deals since then you'll have a 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of getting your deal, not to mention ruining it for others.
3. Don't be a greedy BASTARD.

ABSOLUTE NUMBNUTS. Those are the people that make those T-shirts with a certain logo valid:

"Some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them"

NeoV: My aplogies for the numbnuts that reside in my city. Glad you didn't lose your job by trying to help people you never met out! :) DAMN GREEDY BASTARDS! :|:|:|:|

SLAG: Thank you for this.... "When I went to the store in Merriam, KS, the electronics guy said that 6 other people already came in, some with printouts of the webpage in hand, etc, asking the clerks to check each and every sku for monitors they might have in stock"

I actually am glad there were so many fools that waved that list around in the store because even though the odds are low now, I was worried this may have had something to do with me. I now am going to do something even dummer than those people by posting a PM that I have been working on for the last 2 hours, because I owe it to you all to decide whether I should leave here. Any hate statements leave in the thread, my email is sometimes not working................

PM to NeoV:

"Note: Just before I was about to send this, I read that several people were taking this list and waving it around in stores. Hopefully this means it was not me. I would still like the info on what state if you find out and am still going to send this to you........

NeoV: this is really bothering me because there is a possibility that this may have had something to do with me. If that is so, then your bosses were lying to you, or the ones that told your bosses were lying to them. If the part where you said that they said "....with a copy of my profile in hand, showing my email address..." is true then this has nothing to do with me.

Here is what I mean. Although I am listed as a member, I have not been in this "HotDeals" stuff until recently. My few posts have been in many of the different forums, but lately after the Toshiba DVD with Hollywood decoder thread, I have been visiting at least once a week. So I am not familiar enough with taking precautions about this kind of stuff but I am also not that stupid. I made a copy of the first post listing the deals and printed it in B&W fast mode. It looked like a typed out list. I wrote all over it in black pencil to put what info I could dig up, and that others found, concerning each monitor, then circled ones that I may be interested in. It was a mess but I could read it. When I went to the store last Saturday, I found that the monitor I was most interested in was there. So I put my list in my pocket. **No, I am not going to say my list fell out, that would be a cowards cop out** I had them ring up the HP 17" and it was not reduced yet. At that time you had thought the prices would be down already. I asked the counter person to check if the SKU was the right one, knowing that it was, but wanted to make sure. I pulled the paper out to read the number, he looked at it, held it up to the register and said yes, but the price hasn't been updated. He said he could check and see if the prices came down yet and ran off to the back room, with the list. He didn't seem suspicious to me, and after he returned (didn't take long) he said they are checking it and gave me my list back, and then another dude showed up saying that it hadn't been updated yet, and I could get a price adjustment up to 14 days. Now they didn't have time to write down all those items/info but maybe they copied it. It DID NOT have your email or profile on it. Unfortunately, it did have your NeoV user ID next to the items and the Anandtech word above that. It did not have the url to Anadtech, but anyone could figure out how to find that. Then they could click your profile and see your email addy. So, if it was because of me bringing in the list then somebody is giving you incorrect info about your email/info. If it is not because of me, then somebody (maybe an OM B&M employee at the forum) took in the info "on purpose". I hope it isn't me for obvious reasons. I certaintly, and firstmost, didn't want to cause any job risk to you or anyone, secondly to ruin any deals for other good people at Anandtech, lastly cause this deal to fall through for me. I can take the 3rd. Actually, it would be better if it was me, because that would mean it was a mistake and not some troublemaker.
Because this happened a few days after I went in, and another Anandtecher said he was going to go back with a list, and your statement that the guy had your info as well, made me think this wasn't me. But the one guy says he did not go back and I believe him. I can see those guys at the local store being mad that some of "their" stash of potential eGay deals would actually end up going to customers would make them seek retailiation by telling a story to the corporate office. I didn't want to out myself for no reason if this was someone elses fault, giving them a scapegoat to hide behind, by posting to the thread. Still, even if it wasn't me, it could have been. For that I am truly sorry for the trouble you got in, more so if it was my fault, but still because it could have been. The store I went to was the one in Utica, Michigan. If you can find out which store it was, I would really like to know for sure.
Already the vultures [things like kill and bastard] at Anandtech are looking for heads and have outed the guy that said he would take in a list. Of course someone else (another newbie) may have done this and is just hiding. Knowing which state this was from will at least narrow it down to me or not me. Saying I am sorry I even pulled that list back out of my pocket was stupid and I am sorry, I am sure is of little consolation to you. At least if it was due to me, you won't need to blame the crowd at Anandtech.
I wonder if copying my paper without my knowledge or consent was illegal. That is if it was my copy that caused this. Find out about the state if you can, so that if it was me, I can post this PM in the thread so they can stop looking for a troll.
My email is visible in my profile, so you can email me as well as PM. Note I share this computer and may not get back on until evening again.
Mike."

Lungster said, "Just goes to show, there truly are morons born every minute. Now how to ditch them from this board?"

Good question...remember these kinda folks are reeeeeeeeeeeeeeal stUpid, so here's the test {and this test is issued when they first set up their profile on this website}:

after they fill in the Username and Password -- and remember this will take time cuz they'll have to go to the Help tab looking for FAQs to seek answers to questions floating in their molded grey-matter like "what's a 'Username' and does Anandtech supply me with my password?" -- again, after working out these brainteasers, we ask them the following question:

Please answer the following: Are you a moron?

Their reply: ... "...duh...uhh..bdeuuh... mmm... 'YUP, I am'"

Website action: Dialog box pops up saying "Thanks for playing. You will now be redirected to www.imanidgit.org. Please do not visit this site again or you'll get a virus." :D

not OM.... some members and probably ALOT of lurkers out there who are dumb as rocks and are going to ruin this for everyone. Must be the large young male population of this board, a group that, in general is totally incapable of knowing how to be SUBTLE and keep their mouths shut.

I just want to thank Neo for the great deals! The 15 inch TFT was a deal that many of us benefitted from. As far as the stupidity of some members, I think this has to be a new low. Must be the same idiots that ordered 1000 zip drives, and most likely signed up for 200 $10 gcs on the recently posted HP deal. Is common sense dead? I guess so....:(

Sorry about what happened to you, NeoV, and no offense to you at all, but . . . why do you have so much specific information in your profile if you work at OMax (or anywhere for that matter) and post "insider" deals from there? I think what you did was great, and that a bunch of idiots with PhD's in rectal mechanics messed up the deal for many folks.

However, you can't be totally surprised by this, can you? It's not like it is an isolated event. Next time, try a clean profile. The less info, the better. Just my $0.02.

Geez NeoV.. I'm glad that the idiots who printed that list out didn't lose you your job.. it was good of you to post this although I don't see why OM would care tho they were all closeouts..
To every responsible Anander and the MOD if you're reading this I think there outta be an IQ test for new people to join Anandtech and that way we can stop this problem at it's source.. and to the people who printed out the list I hereby curse you with a 20 year bout of uncontrollable foot rot!
Anyways Neo thanks for the post and here's hoping this doesn't affect your career any further..
