Monday is the most racist term I've heard since Chinaman.

Englishman and Frenchman are also racist terms by derivation.

"Monday" can be used in a racially derogatory context. It's more derogatory in general. "he's a monday", "why?", "because nobody likes a monday!".

IMO, not racist in itself, but can be seen that way.

This guy is a fucked-up racist piece of crap.

He shouldn't be a cop, and now, thanks to his repeated inability to keep his fat racist mouth shut, he's not.

Basically this. You can trim the headlines and make jokes about why did Monday become a racist term but it's pretty clear to me that the police officer really is screwed up in the head and needed to get fired. But it's pretty clear he will be playing the ignorance card "I didn't know Monday meant that" to try to get out of it.

yeah, I can see that. most of us are obviously ignorant about this term--myself included--but the history is quite clear, as it pertains to this dude's neighborhood, and what he obviously meant.

But you know what's really funny? His incompetent lawyer will likely scour the internet and dig up threads like this, trim it down to use as evidence that no one understands this to be a racial slur!

So confused...is this supposed to mean Garfield hates Mondays, black people, or cops?

Words are just words. They cannot be anything. Context is what matters. And in this case, it sounds like the guy had been earning his pink slip on the installment plan.

Common term around here.

I am starting to realize it actually is used as a racist term (I just got to listen to the video).

Combining that with this cop's alleged history, I guess he might deserve to be fired.
