i was just about to order a64 winchester 3000 + msi neo2 plat from newegg, then i noticed monarch has a combo deal with free farcry. he already has farcry, so i would be selling the game if i buy from the monarch. another difference is egg is retail while monarch is OEM, meaning i would need to get a seperate heatsink/fan. at the moment i am leaning toward monarch, but slightly concerned about the 'pre-tested' part. has anyone gotten this combo from monarch? there could be a chance they are selling less overclockable ones in their combos...

$297(monarch) vs $293(newegg), both including shipping.
 
I got a 3500+/Neo2 Plat combo from monarch. You can actually get the retail package with the combo, but I chose OEM instead (I didn't need the extra hsf) but they sent me a hsf anyway, attached and ready to rumble. Of course I had to go through the trouble of removing it and putting my XP90 on, but no big deal. Monarch delivered in 2 days, good shipping, sent a lot of stuff with the motherboard.
 
I haven't checked into Monarch's policy on RMA'ing motherboards yet, but if they do then they have that over NewEgg now. To me that's a big plus. I may wind up doing a lot of business over there.

I know this is not what you were asking about but I think it's worth considering.
 
Both have good reps. NE generally is shipping from a mass amount of them and you wont get as much touchy feely support on first order.

Monarch is smaller and will load the latest BIOS which can be a BIG issue on these new chipsets.
I have found NE seems to be cheaper on almost everything but the cpu so would recommend going Monarch on the cpu/mobo with them testing it and getting the rest from NE who has a much larger selection of other stuff, especially memory.

NE is easy to RMW with and that can be a true life saver but I haven't heard anything bad about Monarch either.
I haven't used Monarch yet but do plan too.
NE has been fine but they do have a big company feel as opposed to a hands on mom and pop shop.
 
What he said. I purchased my motherboard/CPU from Monarch and everything else from Newegg/other venders.

you guys forgot to mention their free 90 day warrantee, which can be extended at a price. If anything goes wrong (as long as you don't overclock or something) they'll send you a replacement within 1 week.

that wont help me cuz i am taking this home in less than 2 weeks, like 7000-8000 miles away from here. he wont be contacting monarch from there (i hope not 🙂)
 
with monarch you can also add a 1-3 year warranty to the procesor/MB combo. This is important when you buy an oem processor. I got my bundle with ram from Monarch and they had great service with FAST shipping. REcommend them.

Monarch is located in Tucker, GA You'll get taxed if you're resident of GA.
 
We also offer tech support on our parts and system orders, which I think in and of itself is a huge selling point. So essentially you could pick up a pre-tested and setup combo, flashed with the latest bios, plus have tech support that you can call if you have any problems. (For no additional fee) Of course, I'm biased, but thought that needed to be added. :thumbsup:
 
I bought my OEM 2x242s from Monarch, my first order from them BTW, and they were nuke-proof packed and they are same week CGs that are evidently less than 100 chips apart off the line if I read the lids right. They had the best price on them shipped, and the ordering process and e-mail updates were all flawless. Since I'm in Florida they got here on the same truck as the board I bought for them from ZZF despite being ground so big :thumbsup: for Monarch from a new customer.

Being an Intel system builder for years I am just amazed of how the price gap between DIY and pre-made systems (like Dell) has not only narrowed but swung way in favor of the name brands.

I am another looking to start using Monarch instead of New Egg or Mwave. But do not see much in the way of sales incentives. Not sure if you can answer this but figure I would give it a try. Do you think we will be seeing price drops soon for DIY? This has to be the worst time ever for DIY as far as things like no free shipping deal and no real sales incentives this season.

 
i bought the 3500 + neo combo from monarch yesterday...bought ram from newegg..took a 3 yr warranty from monarch (cheap $)reps have been very helpful and courteous...needed the games that come with combo, that was probably the deciding factor and probably would of gone with a 3200 if i could have... trade off was a + in my favor

newegg is bigger...look at customer service at dell...their huge!!! that could become an issue later in favor of monarch (speculation)

either one is good...just look at what is being offered at your particular price point

Not really. They're pretty great, but for little stuff like TIM or fans and fan grills and stuff their shipping is a total ripoff.

The biggest issue facing us, as well as our competitors, is simply the supply is not out there. And as always supply/demand affects pricing. I honestly don't know how the big box guys are making any profit on the systems themselves, it all has to be in their added cost services.

First, Newegg is great only if they actually have the product and aren't price gouging it 😉 I couldn't even have bought my 242 OEMS from them at the time because they were OOS and they wanted more money too. Start buying case fans, cables, and adapters and they rob you blind by stacking shipping.

If the comment about the game sucking was directed at the post above that mentioned wanting the games that came with the combo, I have to ask if you have any idea what you are talking about?

The 3500+ combo comes with DVD FarCry, HL2 coupon, and 4 months of Napster If you think HL2 and FarCry suck, I'd say you are in a very small minority.
 
They are both excellent, there's not a really good reason to use one over the other, much more a question of your own preference. I try to do nearly all my business with monarch, newegg or zzf.
 
i also buy from both, but less from NE b/c I am too cheap to pay tax on expensive things.
my latest mobo combo came from monarch, good vendor except when I tried to change the sempron to an A64 they wanted to charge me a "$15 order change fee". that was not cool, but the sempron was an excellent sample so i'm happy.

Well, we're much different than Newegg. They're basically a webstore for computer parts and accessories, and do it pretty well.

We're a combination system builder/parts store, with web, phone, and counter sales. There's just a bit more valued added services that we offer (tech support, combo assembly, etc.) compared to most out there.

As always, its a bit biased, but I know personally those are things I consider when I'm shopping.

 
I would love to use Monarch but I'm in GA so I get charged tax. 🙁 So that kills most deals for me unless shipping is expensive on an item. But Monarch does have awesome prices on AMD64 OEM cpus. I'm just curious how they were able to get it cheaper than anyone else. There has to be some large OEM that's dumping these to Monarch on the grey market.
