Unfortunately this thread has been infested by morons.

This item won't come as news to some of you guys but I received my order for one of these today and it is definitely one of those "how the hell does anyone *make* it for that price" bargains. I ordered it for my son's computer but decided to first swap it with my $30 copper heatsink to see how it performed. 3C cooler and really quiet too. My son has now a new copper h/s. ;) So the bottom line is...

For $6 (+S&H) you get a heatsink, a 80mm fan (although it says 'none' in the drop-down list), a fan guard, and a packet of silicone compound. The heatsink is finished to a mirror chrome finish and looks the business. It is suitable for Athlons, Durons, and probably socket 370 Intel chips. It works and it's quiet. IMO you'll have to pay a lot more to get anything much better.

Just picked one of these up as a whim because I was already placing a large order with svc, it improved the temp on my duron 1.3 by 9C over my old cheap hsf.. I'm happy with it :)

I cannot say enough good things about these suckers. They are cheap, quiet, and do the job well. I have built about 6 or 7 computers with these guys, and all of them have performed well. I am not an over-clocker, but my XP 1600+ runs at a nice 40C (granted, its the onboard sensor, but still...).

Last time I ordered I bought 4, just to have some handy. Just to reiterate Bob's note, you DO NOT need to order a fan- you get one in the box. Its pretty quiet, too.

Props to SVcomp, and no, I am not an employee. :)

the only way you can make shopping at svc sweeter is living a mile from them. I pick up all my orders, eventhough their shipping's pretty good.

$2.99 HSF

I modded this one to put 80mm fan on it. It was easy to do and worked great. (You get an extra 60mm fan)

Yep, I've had one of these puppies on my 1500XP for several months now. My computer is setup in an office in my finished basement, an office with no windows and only a door, ie. it gets really warm in the summer when the computer is left running. Even with case temperatures of 35 C (with three 21 cfm Panaflo's), I've never seen cpu temps over 42 C, even after gaming, video streaming, cad, etc. During the cooler months, my normal temperature differential is between 3-4 degrees C, between case and cpu, measured with MBM 5. And it performs this well without making a lot of noise.

Basically, I can't say enough good things about this little cooler. The only no glowing comment could be that the clip is really stiff and can be a little difficult to get a screwdriver on, depending on your case and motherboard. But for $6, you can't go wrong.

End of praise session.

SVC is right up there with Newegg in my book: great prices, great service, and awesome products. Although SVC has less of a product selection, they charge way less because of this. For example, Artic Silver 3 is only $5 shipped!!!!!! :) :)

This variable speed FAN at $5 is also a good deal.

I'm running an MP 2000+ at 140 fsb (1750) with the GC68 and this fan -- max temp while cranking seti is about 46C.

Besides that the 2 bright blue leds in the fan are cool.

AND SVC has great service.

Gracjan,

I think you are okay with your TT Volcano. It's more suited to your needs....my .02

What are lowest temp you are getting on this mobo and with what CPU and what ambient temp? Thanks for help.
nope..save the $10 unless you want a spare HSF(or planning to do a HSF test or upgrade/new build..;) )

I just went to one of these from an Sk6 mostly because I got sick of the whining 60mm fan "seems they would make an 80mm swap for that cooler" Anyways using stock fan It's as cool or cooler than the sk6 was running. I'm impressed. 3 cheers to svcompucycle for their great service and good prices.

Actually that review rated it next to the last in a meager competition that includes the AX7 as the best heatsink.
The worst in that review is a Duron cooler.
The top performance of GC68 is made by high speed Delta fan that is two times more expensive than the cooler itself.
The whole test is done on Athlon XP 1700 and Duron 600 @ 900 MHz.

What is that sink worth?
The same heatsink is used in Akasa 824, with about the same quality fan.
Check how good that one is in this review with a little more competition. Apparently it is better than Duron coolers only.

Ordered mine w/ a Vantec 80mm Stealth fan + arctic silver + a fan grille. Since it already comes w/ all that, now I have 2 fans, 2 grilles, and 2 things of thermal compound. Yeah, the stuff that came w/ the SVC68 is nowhere near the quality of the Stealth fan and the arctic silver, but still, I got so many goodies for around $20 shipped. Ontop of that, it shipped the same day I ordered, and I got my package 2 days later...and I'm in PENNSYLVANIA! Props to SVC for a job well done.

Would this thing work for a stock clock speed XP2200+? How about with an 80mm fan retrofitted?

Use YS-Tech fan from SVC if you want to stick to a non-copper heatsink. It is a 4-pin fan but pushes 48 CFM at the expense of noise. I doubt the performance will match the high quality coolers but it would be a certain and significant improvement.
T'bred 2200 generates somewhat less heat than Palomino 2100 though the thermal meltdown happens sooner as well. About 5C earlier, at 85C. It spends less as well, 68W versus 72W for Palomino 2100. T'bred 2100 spends 10W less than Palomino 2100, only 62W.
The core is apparently smaller so conductivity is even more important than with Palomino, meaning copper heatsinks are the way to go if you are looking for a performance.

If you can't live with the stock fan go with this FAN . It's only $5 and can pump more air if that's what you need. Besides that you can trial and error adjust the fan speed to fit your needs re noise/cpu temp balance.

As I posted earlier, the GC68 with the above fan @ 4000rpm is running my MP 2000+ at 1750 (140fsb) @ 46C max running seti, with ambient temp of 35C. Stevejst may think that sux but I like it fine.

I also ran this fan at 2500rpm just to test it and my cpu temp maxed out at 50C -- well within acceptable level.

Emjem, I think you are doing just fine. That is a heck of a 80 mm fan when it can do 4,000 RPM. 35C is a little steep for the system temperature. One or two case fans can make it nicer. Nice processor too.
In fact out of all the numbers people have been tossing around your numbers look the most consistent.

What do you base that on? And WHY would I want to get it any lower?

I'm in, Thanks!! And it's already shipped! I went for the GC68 and the Vantec 80mm Stealth fan + arctic silver. I hope to get that eternal buzz a little quieter. Was going to get the adjustable fan, and should have just to play with the adjustment and watch the lights, but the Vantec looked like better quality, ball bearings and such. For an XP1800. Bump.
