Modified trucks pose road risk [raised suspensions/oversized tires]

What if? What if? What if?

Your "safe" world doesn't exist, and if it did, government still would be the entity to give it to us.
And knee-jerk, we-gotta-do-something-NOW reactions to problems that have existed for a long time are cures worse than the disease. There is no reason to ban every truck and SUV in the US simply because you became alarmed like a sheep who heard rumor of a wolf from the dog.

The solution is simple and was implemented more than 20 years ago in Washington state. Regulate a maximum bumper height for all vehicles on the road. Make the maximum bumper height low enough so that small cars won't go completely under the modified truck in the event of an accident. It works, and it's enforcable.

I'm all for lifted trucks. Man, thos elifted F350's with some good muddin tires.....

As for safety? Poop. LIFE is dangerous man, if you dont wanna assume some risk with it, then just quit livin 😉

hey dumbf*ck, lifted trucks largely endanger OTHER drivers. Are you ok with other people endangering your life??

How about I just follow you around with a russian roulette revolver pointed at your back and pull the trigger every once in a while?

Yeah yeah, and second hand smoke will give me cancer, fake butter has transfatty acid whic clogs my arteries, red meat gives me high blood pressure, lack on excercise is making me weak and fat, TV is rotting my brain and we're running out of oil.
My point is people want a 100% government controlled sterile environment. Aint gonna happen pal. Quit whinin about every little thing that poses the slightest health risk, lighten, have a drink and go outside and LIVE LIFE!

That's easy for you to say until some asshat with a 26" lift kills your wife in a car accident.

I've been wondering how long it would be before someone gets killed or seriously injured because of some d!ckwad in a raised truck does something stupid. At the very least he and his insurance company should take a serious a$$ pounding on the lawsuits.

I say that you shouldn't be allowed to drive on public roads with raised vehicles. They were designed by the manufacturer to meet the bumper of normal cars in case of an accident for safety reasons. There's a reason people pass laws, it's because of asshats who like to do stupid sh!t to their vehicles and then throw their hands in the air when they kill someone...oh well, it's not my fault they were driving a regular car.

Well, your arguement doesn't take into account the growing popularity of raised trucks and SUVs. In case you hadn't noticed there are many many more of these vehicles on the road today than there were 20 years ago. I got on the freeway this morning and there were 2 very raised F-250/350 trucks near me. Everytime I see one of these trucks I try to see the logic behind this trend. Let's see, I'll make my truck, which I NEVER take offroad, into a taller, slower, heavier vehicle with less control and greater braking distance. I don't get it.

I do agree with the maximum bumper height for all vehicles though.

I agree with this... and I'm an SUV driver. Lower the damn headlights at least !

Why or why are we surrounded with knee-jerk-reacting idiots like this? You do realize that almost every semi-tractor-trailer rig in the US is just as high as these modified trucks, right?
Should we remove those from the road too?

BTW, I live in the land of hicks with giant mud-bogging 4x4's, and even 12" lifts are pretty rare. I'd say your 26" lift is a bit of an exaggeration there...

If an accident happen, the driver at fault is (hopefully) punished. So, if a normal truck will wound occupants of another car, and a raised truck will kill them, the driver of the raised truck will stay in jail for some time. Hopefully his truck will stay unused...

What bugs me is that almost every state in the country allows almost unlimited tint on SUV's, but not on cars which need the tint the most in order to block out the high-riding lights from the SUV's.
This is why I have illegal tint on my car anyway. For a safety reason, if you can believe that. Not all laws make sense.

Knee jerk reacting idiot? Go fvck yourself to death.

Semis are required to have lower bumpers so that cars don't go underneath them in an accident...in case you didn't know.

I don't know how much of a lift they have but it's pretty clear that they are not safe for other drivers on the road.

LOL, now THAT is a great example of a knee-jerk reaction, telling me to fvck myself to death. 😀

Seriously, you proved my point.

Especially when I already mentioned a few posts back about regulating a maximum bumper height (i.e. lower bumpers in case you can't figure that out). Been working in Washington state, home of the 44" mud tire, for decades now.

No need to get all up in arms and take everyone's truck away, okay pal?

What ? I was looking to put tint on my truck and the law is still 70%-80% in NY. An SUV is still a car/vehicle under the law.

Vic-I said in an earlier post that bumper height maximums was a good idea. I don't think I ever said that I wanted to take everyone's truck away. I just think raised trucks are a bad idea and that there should be laws against it. Maximum bumper heights are a good solution though. I'd be okay with that.

I apologize for telling you to go fvck yourself to death okay? 🙂

Tint laws vary by state. Text

From what I've read, NY has the strictest tint laws in the country.
