just asking,i`m not american.

Folks have been commenting on here and Foriegners visting of how dirty the U.S. Cities are.

Many have crumbling infrastructure.

Crime riddled yet they claim crime is down.

For example I am in New Orleans now. Shootings and Murders dominate everyday. Guys that I am working with had to abandon a Cell site they were working at because people were shooting in the parking lot across from them.

The New Orleans Police never report the events. They put them down as other not so violent things such as domestic dispute with babysitter.

I don't know what cities you are talking about but big cities I've gone to are looking great. San Francisco is a great big city, so is Seattle. I don't see how you could think our cities are in decay...

I've always wanted to visit both cities and they do look nice but can you find a European city that is as bad as St. Louis, Detroit, Gary Indiana, New Orleans, Hartford? Off the top of my head, I can't think of any.

How about any eastern european city? We are one of the largest countries in the world, of course we are gonna have some not so nice cities. These pictures are pointless anyway. They are pictures of either a skyline or of one or two streets. There are poverty areas in them just like any other city.

I still like looking at them though, I've always liked big cities. They are just kinda misleading.

I'm not saying their isn't poverty but I can't think of a big city in Europe that is as crime infested/run down as Detroit. As you drive through the city, their are thousands of abandoned or burned down homes and hundreds of empty buildings. It looks like a bomb was dropped on the city.

How many European cities have u even been to? Detriot is probably the USA's worst city, crime is ridiculous and it's poor.

So what do you want us to do? Give them money? they'll buy some smokes or a beer with that probably.

There are bums in Europe too, don't make it sound like there arent. Been to London? Berlin? Any large metropolisis? There are bums everyone.

also, LA is a third world country onto itself. All the signs are in different foreign languages and hardly anyone there speaks any enlish.

Paris is surrounded by a ring of slums. 1 million immigrants from North Africa live there in slums as bad or worse than what you see in 3rd world countries.

The U.S. takes in a lot more immigrants from poor countries than Europe does. On top of that there is illegal immigration in the U.S., which the government lacks the political will to crack down on. Even this allegedly conservative Republican President is trying to give amnesty to Mexican illegals.

Hell, if illegal immigration alone from Mexico were ended (and if it never happened in the 1980's and 1990's) the hundreds of square miles of California and Texas that resemble 3rd world Mexico would not exist.

This arguement is timeless and even the romans and the egyptians went round and round about it.
Handing them money will not solve the problem, the mindset of how poverty happens
and the ills of our society and how some of the most high risk and vulnerable Americans slip through the cracks needs to be rethought.

Problem is comfortable white folk do not have many children.
Cut off immigration -america declines.

IMO -invite everyone who are not criminals -treat them equal give them a good stab at the good american life -population rises controllably and steadily.
it is the old racism that feeds the poverty by thinking of "newer" americans as lesser.

I've been to all of them. San Francisco has some very nice areas. The area around SBC Park is awesome. For every bad place u name, there are 20 that are good in the USA. You actually think Europe doesn't have bums and stuff? GERMANY'S UNEMPLOYMENT IS 13%, YOU THINK THEY ARE ALL LIVING THE GOOD LIFE?!?! Goddamn dude, they are poorer than we are. You are so ignorant.

Thanks for the pics Aimster.

I have not been off the U.S. rock and this shows how other Cities are progressing while U.S. Cities are in decay.

For the U.S. Elitists show me a U.S. City not in decay.

You have not been outside of the United States, but you claim to know that the U.S. cities are in decay compared to foreign countries? Dave.. You are just sad. I've traveled to, I'd guess, around 20 different countries so far in my life. While I have not been to every country, I can easily say, perhaps excluding Canada (Which is basically the United States anyway), that the United States as a whole (And I've been to nearly every State), is better than every country I've visited.

Don't take that the wrong way, as I know you will.. I'm not saying there is anything WRONG with these countries I visited.. They are beautiful, the people are friendly, etc.. But once you get outside of the tourist trap, the people are usually POOR.. The poor of these countries would live like KINGS if they had the type of job you claim we only have in the United States (McD's and Walmart).. Dave, you may THINK you have seen poverty, but if you have never left the United States you have NO IDEA what it is. And the funny thing is, is these people appreciate what little they do have more than your sorry ass here in the United States.

Its amazing your opinions about America are so strong Dave, when you have absolutely NOTHING to compare it to. Maybe you need to join the Peace Corp or something and travel a little to get some perspective.. and you will realize how absolutely great it is here in the United States. Its sad when the main thing people like you have to complain about is the lack of choice in broadband service, or perhaps even lack of broadband service in a rural area. THATS not decay Dave, thats called you having too damn much handed to you on a silver platter in this country to even KNOW what you should really be complaining about.

You can say our cities are in decay when you don't have electricity for months after a storm, or you use the river to clean your clothes in because there is no such thing as running water where you live. You can complain when you can get 1 radio station on the AM radio you have, and not DirecTV to you 36 inch TV, and your broadband connection to millions of places on the internet. You can complain when you have to take a crappy motorcycle 30 miles to the nearest market to pack a couple necessities into a bag for your family.. rather than taking your own personal car 5 minutes down the road to Walmart which carries anything you could ever want for any situation.

Dave, you can start commenting on the state of our country when you actually have some life experience. You'd think at your age you would have that by now.. But its clear you are too wrapped up in complaining about things like government taking away your rights because you illegally install software on someone elses computer than to worry about what the rest of the world is like.

Get outside your bubble Dave, the world does not revolve around you and your minor problems which you bring upon yourself.

So basically every article written about how the U.S. is falling off the chart as far as High Speed Internet and Technology progress is wrong???

That's amazing. Every Journalist should be fired.

I see, U.S. citizens should kiss the ground and be happy about their McD and Wally World jobs, of course because they will still be living like Kings compared to the rest of the world. My what high aspirations you have for the U.S.

LOL.. yeah Dave.. Internet access is the most important thing to look at when determining the progress of a country.. I don't even know what to say to you.

Uhm, Baghdad was/is a nice modern looking, and yet had a tyrannical rule?

So enough America bashing. Oh but wait, every post of yours is anti-American .... so keep on

A large metropolis doesn't reflect the entire country. For instance, New YorK City doesn't represent middle America.

So does Shanghai represent a factory with slave laborers somewhere in Guangdong province? Does Bombay represent Indian child laborers working in a factory in Chennai?

By the way, nice thread Aimster, sorry I had to add these comments. Just had to reply to him.

Interesting you bring this up:
Past year or so I have heard quite a few visiting europeans commenting on the fact that they always heard US is so nice compared to home and come to realize it's become sort of a dump with some scary warmongering whackos running the show.
Anyone want to comment on that from outside the US?

As far as your "every comment I make is anti-american" troll, yes this is my home and if it a mess I will say something about it. Ignoring your house will not get the dishes done or the floor swept. The dirt just piles up.

I've traveled a lot. You have traveled hardly at all. After you put some miles on those jets and some experience in that head, come back and tell me what you think of your post then!

Thats inevitable most of that land was theirs anyways.

On the subject of dirty/clean, I have found that most American cities are quite clean. They have dirty parts but much less dirty parts than other countries I have been too. Americans on the whole are cleaner people than Europeans as well. In Germany some of the dudes would not bathe for 3-4 days. Their reasoning - it was too cold. LOL they smelled like crap. Almost all Americans I know bathe daily/wash hands often etc.

Seattle is a beautiful place to visit, provided that you don't mind clouds and rain ;) I miss living in Seattle so much (living in Phoenix, trying hard to find a job back up in Seattle). Don't get me wrong, Phoenix is an ok place, but I miss the greenness and variety that I found so abundant in Seattle that I don't see here.

Aimster, do you have any pics of the Seattle skyline (Tacoma would be more appreciated if possible)?

I think it'd be possible to find several cities in Europe that aren't first rate. Cities in eastern Europe come to mind first, followed by cities in war-torn areas and former communist cities next (my wife told me about the astronomically high unemployment rate in Bulgaria).

Like someone said earlier - those are postcard pics - they're supposed to look spectacular!

Right, America is a dump :disgust:

Those rotten Europeans forget the fact that we liberated them from certain death and protected them from the Russkies all throughout these years. By the way, we are enjoying more growth and prosperity even after the worst terrorist attack ever than they are. Our cities are growing.

I bet when you go abroad you tell everyone how crappy America is and how much Americans "suck".

I am proud to say that the "Freedom Tower" in New York City will become the tallest building in the world :). God Bless America and NO WHERE ELSE!!

And what's so telling is that he went back and edited out his post. Hahaha.

I've visited a number of modern cities in the world and in my opinion San Francisco is the most beautiful.

When that fog rolls in and the sun rises or sets, the effect on the landcape of the city is amazing. Two pics i've found on google:

San Fran is a nice city to visit. I live only an hour away, so I go there pretty often. It obviously has some bad areas, but it's nice areas are spectacular. Going to Giants games is awesome too :)

Dunno, but I don't like Jim Rome. He's good on the radio SOMETIMES, but his show on ESPN is garbage.
