Damn, some of you guys have nice connections. :Q
** Speed 1443(down)/124(up) kbps **
(At least 28 times faster than a 56k modem)

Finish.
That's about what I get all the time. Certainly not bad, but..

<< << Really? Um, no, 57k isn't possible. 56k remember? >>
I swear. I can't remember who it was...but someone was in my room with me once when I connected and saw it. Don't ask me how...but I connected at that speed. If you believe me or not.....doesn't matter.
Well.....when I had Win2k, somehow my connections were double pumped.....I was connecting @ like 115kb/s supposedly....but that's not possible. Hmm, I wonder wuts going on!? >>
The US government limits the throughput to 53k on regular phone lines, so even on a 56k modem you will never connect any higher than 53333. Ever. It has something to do with interference I believe, someone else likely knows more on the subject but I know what i've said is 100% correct. >>
Yeah, you're correct. But how do you know he's not from another country, where they don't have such restrictions?

some modems certainly can connect at 57kbps. And yeah, Windows was reporting your serial port speed, not your modem speed. This was probably due to the default initialization string. Look in your manual for the AT command to tell it to report DTR speed..
Oh, and there is a way to enable a serialport speed of 230400, but I don't remember how.. heh
