MMORPGs = the devil

I have had roomates who are lost to EQ. They knew I was a diabloii junkie back in the day but I will NOT EVER touch EQ or mmorpgs. I KNOW what would happen.
Weird I have fooled around with some messed up stuff in my life but I will and have never touched EQ or crackrock or heroin. (same life sucking thing to me)
The whole thing is set up to be a timesink nothing less.

That is a good point. I have done that in a couple games. Played way too much over a month or two, then completely dropped it as the plateau hit.

I now have more fun in UT2K4 at the moment, since every match is unique, etc. When I spent 9 hours straight one day to make it 1/2 way to lvl 99 in D2 a few years ago, well that was pretty sad.

I used to play WoW ALOT! but then I started on a little game called KOTOR II (knights of the old republic), and it pulled me away somewhat. Also I work out cause I can't stand sitting down 6 hours a day in a MMORPG!! :beer:

I used to MUD with people I knew from "RL" like my brother and some other friends. It was a cool way for us to keep in touch when we were too far apart to hang out regularly. The MUDs were free. I can't see paying money for a GUI MUD, nor playing without "RL" friends.

i used to hate EQ and all the other MMO's out there, because who wanted to pay $15/mo for a game? but then i sat down and looked at it...a movie nowadays is $15+food etc and if your paying for your SO its 2x that! so hey, $15 is nothin. Not to mention i play with friends from RL and my SO plays too, but we havn't gotten to the point of losing TOO much sleep over it, and I still goto work every day, go out, have fun other ways so its not a problem for us.

But i do know some people that all they do is play MMORPGS and its sad to see where they have ended up

The only MMORPG I tried was the SIMS and that lasted maybe 3 months. It was booooooorrrrrrrring. I would skip class to play classic Quake but of all the time I spend gaming I am not going to blow off having a social life to game.

I played SWG for about a year. I started playing because my roomate got it and I played on his computer for a while and decided to get it as well, so we could play together. However, a couple months into it, he lost interest and I was left to play on my own. I joined a guild so I had some people to play with and eventually became the leader of the guild. We had our own city and everything, but it got to the point where I wasn't playing for fun any more. I was always pulled away from what I wanted to do to help guild mates or something like that. Also, I had several structures that required maintenance, so sometimes I would have to log on for an hour just to fly around to all of them and dump some money in them. So one day I realized SWG was more like work than a game and quit. There were a few cool people that I felt bad for, like I was abandoning them, but other than that it was easy to quit.

But now I'm into WoW. So far so good. It's still fun.

I agree totally. There's where the focus needs to be. Not on the game itself.
