Not sure what you meant there? Do people still get attacked and lose all their stuff? Yes , that's part of the game , one of the best parts imho.

no, what i mean was that if you are still getting attack by those 20 angry frenchmen you mention before everyday. it would suck to be on their raid schedule.

Ah the mad frenchmen....nah we moved to another spot on the map, and are actually now allied with one of the french guildes that where attacking us a month or 2 ago.

Here's a good map for Darkfall showing the major alliances etc...

Any time I even see this game mentioned I have to snicker.

Is this game available to anyone other than the unemployed yet? You know, by unemployed I really mean the people that can sit around all day hitting F5 in vain hopes that the online store opens?

Quite apparent who this game is catered to. Actually.... no.. thats not even apparent.

Yeah it's definitly not finished game , ordering an account is a royal pain in the ass as well.

so i found this, http://www.eu1.darkfallonline.com/dl/DarkfallFull/. the torrent is still active and I was able to download it, but I haven't had a chance to install it yet or anything

I assume I will need a "key" or something that will be bought through the store... is this what we are really waiting on that is "out of stock"?

anyways, people can still download it and be ready when they do sell more "keys"

 
The key is not that hard to get. I logged in randomly at lunch time and the store was open a few times. I clicked refresh for about 15 minutes and it still said it was open. It has happened more than once. I just did not feel like spending nearly $60 for the game yet... Seems to be a love/hate game, and unpolished, so I was going to wait for them to fix things up before spending that type of cash. I'd try around 12-1pm central time and its seems to be open around that time frequently.

You just need an active account, no key needed, make sure that your cc info is stored and when the store is open it should allow you the option to buy, it is a real pain in the ass.

A few quick and simple tips:
1- Read the content in this link http://forums.darkfallonline.c...howthread.php?t=149310
2- When creating a character, note the starting cities you can pick and get the hell away from them as soon as you compete the starting quests (tutorial) until you have all the basic harvesting tools (you will receive the cooking pot but no other crafting material).
3- It is safe within the towns, the large freestanding towers will zap hostiles.
4- Bring ONLY what you don't mind losing. Collect 5 or more of armor/weapons so you can lose them without worry, if you are short on armor save it for special occasions. Starting off, nothing you have will save you if you are ganked.
5- You do not level with starter weapons (the ones you always have, which you can buy two more for 100 gold each).
6- Do NOT use Magic Missile when on your own (or in a weak group). Sound travels FAR in this game, and the sound of MM is the sound of a dinner bell for gankers. Bows are quieter.
 
Ok, so, honest impressions?

I am downloading now and will probably buy tomorrow morning.

I've been looking forward to this game for about 3 or 4 years now, but I never really let myself read much about it since it's always been vaporware.

UO was my favorite MMO of all time. I like all MMORPG's, but the more hardcore the better. Will I like it?

If you plan on playing solo, you will hate this game, you will die a lot, if you have any amount of loot on you bank it asap.

You also need to rebuy the game as their excuse is that the NA server is run by a different group or something.

They also claim to be ready to add a "massive" patch, which from their track record means they will do a few minor tweaks.

Also claim to be updating their site after how many years? Maybe even add a Buy button.


Overall, I give them a 50/50 chance of screwing this up or keep on going. People had left due to now resolved issues, others decided to wait for the NA server and with some actual advertising (aka, letting people know the game isn't dead) they might fill two servers. Until recently they have been constrained by how many people they can support on a server which they have made progress on, so they might be ready to seek out new players rather then letting players come to them.
 
Population numbers have plumetted in the last month or 2 , to play NA release if you already have a copy you will have to either delete character or wait 3 months to get transfered.
 
I saw no mention of having to delete your character if you want to play on the NA server while having a EU character.
 
I bought the game and was playing on the EU server, but I recently canceled. I had been talking to some friends about jumping in when the NA servers went up... but now that I have to buy the game AGAIN, or wait 3 months and pay for a transfer, that's not going to happen.

Waiting on Mortal Online now.

I didnt even realize Darkfall was available elsewhere already.. but once i realized it was out i checked out the forums at mmorpg.com and it was basically 95% full of how TERRIBLE the game is.

Everyone says its absolute garbage, but thats just what i've read. If you do buy it, let me know what you think 🙂
