They opened up more sales last night, couple more people where in the game, they will keep opening up the sales every day this week for an hour or so until the demand slows down. The servers where up and down a bit last night , they have been very stable before that, game runs well on system, latency isn't a factor (servers located in Germany i believe)
We had about 12 people in full armor/weapons come and raid our town, it was a fun fight, they ran away when they saw our numbers. The mob ai is different than in other mmo's that i have played, they dont stand still and attack you, they move around a lot. You need to watch where you swing your weapon, you will hit and damage friendly players if your not careful. You slowly level your skills by using them, even when you harvest your strength/vitality/quickness will go up.
Did i mention it takes a long time to travel from place to place? (you have skills in running/sprinting/crouching/swimming as well)

You need to be real carefull when you are running around with a bag of loot, rival clans/races will kill you and take everything that you are holding. A lot of people are in harvesting mode at the moment gathering enough resources for the clan city, should have some towers/guards up by tonight we are hoping.

At last count i believe there are about 6000 players on the server, they say it will support 10k on a server

How/what do you level in the game? Also how is the grinding for leveling/rescourse gathering/money?

And I appreciate your updates.

I second zzzguy, more updates please. Is it crazy pvp, like irritating level of pvp? Are you able to log in and play without any huge issues? Are there a bunch of ass clowns intentionally trying to get hits by you so they can attack without penalty?

You level your skills, there is a skill for most everything in the game, running, swimming, crouching, swords, armor proficiency etc. The more you use the skill the higher it becomes (on a scale of 0-100). The magic system is layered, you will need to get to 50 lesser magic in order to open up the other trees, 50 lesser magic will take you a while to get , then it opens up greater magic and new spells. Resource grinding is simple, there are a lot of resource nodes all over the place, certain nodes will get you different materials (like iron and steed grass)

I haven't been to the starting cities for a while, there's some ganking going on but it's not that bad, it takes a while to die unless ganged up on, if your being attacked run to the city, guards will attack your attacker as long as he attacked you first i believe, most of the bigger guilds seem to be in resource gathering mode right now to build up their cities. The best way to get money is by killing mobs/selling their junk and from doing one of the few repeatable quests.

You can also steal people mounts, they are kinda hard to get, all your equipment degrades over use, i think i can harvest about 150 wood with a single axe before it get's destroyed, same thing for weapons and armor.

Well from my last post saying I preordered, I wasn't able to play since my CC denied the oversea charges :|. I have played on my friends account though and can say it's the most fun I've had since Lineage2 large scale castle siege. If you've played a pvp oriented mmo in the past you'll understand the heart pounding experience from a large scale battle, lol. I've only been in one guild battle since I only spent 10 or so hours on my friends account, but it was 2 enemy guilds of about 40 vs 20 of us at our home base. We managed to hold them off for about 15 minutes until they gave up and ran for it.

Here's a story of a 200~ man guild war that took place tonight. pics of what ensued below.

In terms of being able to purchase an account , it really is Darkfail. It's a small company with limited resources, and they seem to be only releasing about a 1000 accounts a day for the time being.

I'd argue it's only heart-pounding when you've got something notable to lose, which for me is the main attraction to Darkfall, well that and the ffa looting and skill based progression. Warhammer large scale pvp was pretty dull imo since you didn't lose anything really and just, uh, respawned.

Great. Too bad there isn't a UO 2 or a re-skined UO in the works instead of these regurgitated ripoffs.

So is the game a good time or is it packed with griefers?

Talk about a wide range of opinions on a game - DFO has it all.

There are some obvious rough spots in this game... like.. trying to BUY IT! I am SOL until they make this game available for people who arent skipping school to sit aroud hitting refresh all day to place an order. Work comes first and we have some serious Network monitoring going on.... I dont want to be seen ordering a game :(

Anyhow, despite all the flaws I hear....it looks potentially really fun and something different enough to capture my attention. I miss the wide open "sandbox" games. On the otherhand, it is likely another way to spend money and be disgusted in a month.

Thankfully, I cant BUY IT! Therefore, I cant be dissapointed. Er...wait....

The videos actually look pretty fun for an MMORPG and don't look half bad. Again, using MMORPG standards here which is not great to begin with.

If its anything like AC Darktide I'd be tempted to buy it.

One review I read basically said people wait around in the shadows to make a living off of ninja-looting, or grief-ganking. The reviewer said in the week he played it, absolutely no one was willing to wait for a fair fight, and generally they waited until a player pulled a couple of mobs before joining in.

I'd say it's a good time, there is actual risk involved , you have to watch your back (Which is something i had not been doing for the last 45 minutes of gathering that night). There's plenty of griefing going on, but it's not that bad. The one thing is that there aren't many mob spawns so you will have to competet/ninja loot corpses in order to do any quests.

Meh, eff that, not paying to get ganked by 13 yr olds with no life. PVE > PVP for that reason alone.

sounds to me like it's one of those you can't really enjoy unless you have a big guild to back you up. even in games without pvp loot the ganking is bad enough in open area. now with added incentive I can't see why anyone will not just group up and gank their hearts out.

Yes, that does happen some in the STARTER areas. Wow, he played a week in the starter area? lol what a newb.

It's quite a bit better once you get in a clan and team up with them... away from the starter areas.

I know of some smaller guilds that have success and fun in this game. Don't necessarily have to be in a real big guild.

And no, nothing is stopping people from grouping up and ganking. That's kind of what this game is about... pvp aka fighting other players. I'd consider PVP the main point and PVE a runner up in this game. It seems a lot of people have trouble grasping that aspect.

Well it is pretty fun, especially if you take into consideration the fact that this game is real time fighting and not your typical MMO auto target/attack.

I played beta for the last 3 weeks it was open and have had a live account for over a week. I like it quite a bit so far. I can't wait for the big battles.

EvE has a lot of what was mentioned. In 0.0 where alliances control areas of space there are real problems with raids on supply lines, mining operations and general travel. The solution is to have regular patrols to catch or drive away these bandits. The threat of war also discourages neighbors from doing such things (unless they want war).

The penalty for losing your ship is the loss of most cargo (which anyone can claim) and your ship with a minimal amount of insurance you buy when you buy the ship. The general rule is don't fly what you can't afford to replace.

So it sounds to me like clans and alliances will rule this game to keep the peace, with the added bonus of all hell breaking lose when it comes to war (which can could easily spill over to most of the map). If you want to go it alone this might not be the game for you, but if you don't then you can have the added enjoyment of baiting bandits into a trap and stealing their loot. I myself enjoy MMO's for their warfare aspect (if they have one) so this game is sounding a lot better.

That sounds like a good way to drive off the newbies. Should be some sort of safe area with guards perhaps.

See bolded text for the reason (imo) the player base should be pretty mature...

Kiddie gets killed and loses equipment -> flips out and hits his sister/breaks his mouse -> parents take away game

Have an open mind people, don't treat every game like "WoW with a twist" etc.
