I thought WoW was going to consume my life. It just depends on how fast you want to level. There is tons to do in that game. It's like diablo2 on crack + meth + ecstacy x 10,000.
Even when you hit level 60 you don't have to raid all the time. You don't even need to be in a guild. You could just raid or run instances to find cool stuff with other people. It's fun.

WoW = Huge timesink. Honestly, don't play WoW unless you have hours to spend just to get ahead. Don't do it.

You "WoW - raid or quit" people amuse me. I've been 60 for over a year now, and I've been to MC like 3 times, and ZG maybe a dozen or so. One trip to Onyxia and two to AQ20. That's it. My highest alt is level 18. I peaked at Rank 10 in PvP.
Maybe I'm just easily amused (I do have over 10K post here, after all,) but WoW has tons of stuff to offer for people who only play 2-3 hours per night a few times per week.

2-3 hours is about the time it takes a professional raiding guild to clear an instance. Once you learn the pattern and have an instance on farm status, and add in fully decked out toons, it's easy as pie.

Yes, you should find one of those MMORPGs that you can finish in 10-20 minute intervals. 😕

Once you hit 60 in WoW there are really only 3 things you can do:
1) Raid
2) PvP
3) Grind
I've done and got bored with all those. People might say you can keep doing 5-mans, but what's the point? PvP is fun in the beginning but then also turns into a grind. It would be a lot better if there's actually world PvP (collecting sand doesn't count).

Regarding EVE, it has the steepest learning curve and biggest penalties ever, in any game. You can easily lose weeks, months, or years worth of gameplay(read assets/items) just from one mistake(read learning experience). But besides that fact EVE is probably the most intriguing game for mature players, there is a lot of social interaction, bonding, politics, espionage, capitalism, and world domination. Its a very complicated game that is nothing like your cookie cutter hack and slash MMORPG that you see these days. So its not for everyone.
What it all comes down to is that any MMO will be fun and enjoyable as long as you are playing with friends, or can find/make friends to play with, it doesn't matter what game it is.

FFXI, learning curve is pretty heavy but storyline is there to keep you entertained. A good amount of the players that ran off to WoW came back 2-3 months later going "well I'm done".
