Even when you hit level 60 you don't have to raid all the time. You don't even need to be in a guild. You could just raid or run instances to find cool stuff with other people. It's fun.

Then a week passes and you realize it's boring and you need to raid or die :p Sure you can PvP endlessly to get PvP gear, but it's no less of a grind. Old school EQ (before the lead dev left and Sony turned it into a raidfest) was as near-perfect as an MMOG could get. Instead of shoving you down one path (raiding), the devs let YOU decide what you wanted to make of the game. Want to be a career crafter? Want to raid? Want to quest? All and more were paths to fun and character progression. None were so strong as to make the others pointless. Unfortunately we'll never see an MMOG along those lines again, now that big business has sniffed out the genre and exploited it for profit.

QFT. Sony is a disease ruining everything it touches. It's a corporation so greedy it actually detracts from profits, yet they're too stupid to see this and make any changes. Classic case of shooting one's self in the foot.

I started WoW at release and really liked it because I could jump on and off whenever I felt like it and make progress. The problem though was once I got to level 60 there was really not a lot to do unless I wanted to started to do raids which require much more of a time commitment than I am willing to give. Been there and done that with EQ and I don't want to do it again.

FFXI, learning curve is pretty heavy but storyline is there to keep you entertained. A good amount of the players that ran off to WoW came back 2-3 months later going "well I'm done".

You "WoW - raid or quit" people amuse me. I've been 60 for over a year now, and I've been to MC like 3 times, and ZG maybe a dozen or so. One trip to Onyxia and two to AQ20. That's it. My highest alt is level 18. I peaked at Rank 10 in PvP.

Maybe I'm just easily amused (I do have over 10K post here, after all,) but WoW has tons of stuff to offer for people who only play 2-3 hours per night a few times per week.

2-3 hours is about the time it takes a professional raiding guild to clear an instance. Once you learn the pattern and have an instance on farm status, and add in fully decked out toons, it's easy as pie.

Another vote for GuildWars. It's the only game I play anymore and I think is one of the best looking games around. The no subscription cost is a plus too. :)

No doubt, but with a wife and 2 kids, I just can't commit to a 3-days a week, consistent schedule. There are times when I don't sign in for a week or so, then times when I'm on for 4-5 hours straight for a few days in a row.

*shrug* I've got enough friends that I can usually get a spot in a raid if I really want one on night. Problem is, I have about 200 DKP spread out over ~15 different guilds/alliances. But no sweat, I'm happy in my DM blues, some 0.5 gear, and my rank 10 PvP armor.

I just can't stand the whole swords and sorcery thing.

I have some friends who play Eve and love it. Looks complex to start, but overall a rewarding experience.

I just started WoW and it is a lot of fun. Do a 10-day free trial, it will let you see if you want to play it more or not. PM me if you need a trial link.

Yes, you should find one of those MMORPGs that you can finish in 10-20 minute intervals.

Yeah, cause sitting in IF all day is fun.

Actually, I'm more of a PvP with friends, run 5-mans, help someone get a rare drop, try and see what instances/mobs you can solo, get cross-faction mounts, organize Orgrimar/Undercity naked suicide runs, max out reputations, help guild members gear up lvl 60.

I can't help if it you a fvcking MMORPG snob with serious social and personal issues. Get over yourself.

Once you hit 60 in WoW there are really only 3 things you can do:
1) Raid
2) PvP
3) Grind

I've done and got bored with all those. People might say you can keep doing 5-mans, but what's the point? PvP is fun in the beginning but then also turns into a grind. It would be a lot better if there's actually world PvP (collecting sand doesn't count).

Regarding EVE, it has the steepest learning curve and biggest penalties ever, in any game. You can easily lose weeks, months, or years worth of gameplay(read assets/items) just from one mistake(read learning experience). But besides that fact EVE is probably the most intriguing game for mature players, there is a lot of social interaction, bonding, politics, espionage, capitalism, and world domination. Its a very complicated game that is nothing like your cookie cutter hack and slash MMORPG that you see these days. So its not for everyone.

What it all comes down to is that any MMO will be fun and enjoyable as long as you are playing with friends, or can find/make friends to play with, it doesn't matter what game it is.

Fvcking up the economy, on PvP servers kill all the little guys, playing around and going to BWL or MC with only 5 people. WoW can get pretty boring if you do a lot of stuff by your self. But playing with friends and doing stupid, silly, funny stuff its a blast.

I miss my 60 mage :(

yep, eve would be perfect for him. he could leave the game for hours on end and still not be at his destination in the game. hell, most people who play eve actually watch movies, read books, or surf the web while "playing" Eve.

I wouldn't say you could "Easily" lose that much, but you can if your stupid. If you mean experience, it is really hard to lose it unless your retarded and don't remember to upgrade your clone after you die, and then die again. And if you mean by losing a ship, meh, I wouldn't really call that months. But there is a saying in eve: if you can't afford to lose it, don't fly it.

But what he says about the mature players is definately true. I believe the average player age is 28. If you dont want to play against a bunch of 12 year olds and like a challenging game, try eve.

also if you like to play by yourself and not intereact with other players, eve might not be for you. You have to join a group to really enjoy eve. But when you do and start PVPing... it is like no other game out there.

Oh and if you want to read a great blog by a noob to Eve who goes adventuring around the unverse, check this out.
http://00experiment.blogspot.com/

It is pretty much the only thing I currently do in eve, log onto the forums and read the new post by this guy. Be sure to start at the beginning.

I agree, the learning cure sure can be hard with ffxi. But you are correct that it has a very good storyline.

I played about 4 months of FFXI and I logged 16days of playing time and made it to level 55 main....the problem is you can't do ANYTHING by yourself once you reach like level 20 unless you have your own power leveler which you have control of. And getting to level 20 does not take very long...most groups start at level 10 or so.

Edit:

On another note, going to WoW after playing FFXI is like going from college to pre-school. WoW with its simplistic gameplay and child-like graphics is a joke. FFXI takes skill which made me like it more.
