MMO Players: If you could "legally" sell your accounts...

If I could, I'd sell my WoW account in a heartbeat (although it probably wouldn't be worth much anymore since I skipped the latest expansion). I had a few opportunities to do so, but I always thought there might be a chance I'd go back.

I've sold my accounts anyways. When I get to that point I am not going to play the game anyways and by some remote chance years down the road that I do want to give it a try again, I rather start with a new character to relearn everything and it is cheaper to get a package with all the expansions instead of just the ones otherwise needed.

I figure the worst case is the me and the buyer get busted and the company bans the account and the buyer gets their money back. Sure I'm out of the account, but hey I already wrote it off as something I didn't want anymore regardless.

That being said, it would be nice if you could do it a legit safe way endorsed by the company. Eve does it but you can only sell your character for in game currency and they transfer the character off your account to the other persons.

I would do it more often if there were official ways to do it, certainly.

I've sold one account so far, it was a mutual agreement between me and the buyer but of course it was done in silence, and only the friends I had in the game are aware that a new owner is player my characters, otherwise the purchase of the account occurred unnoticed. As long as trust is established between both the seller and the buyer and everything seems to be in order then it can be done, but doing it even under such circumstances is rare, and yes there are always risks.

If an officially supported and legitimate way to do it would exist for most MMO's out there then I for one would be willing to subscribe to many of them to try them out, knowing that if I'm not satisfied with them then at the very least I could attempt to sell my account without any risks of fraud or scams.

I sold my first wow account before the first expansion came out. Got 600 bucks for my shaman 😛 they didn't even do a charge back on me.

if it were official and legal, they'd have minimal value given how many basement dwellers would do it as a soda & nachos job.

Yeah I sold my Paladin before TBC came out and got 700, then sold my Priest before TFT for like 450... I was pretty pumped. Best part is, the guy I sold my Paladin to never changed the account pw and never logged in, not once. So I ended up taking him back, but by that time he was worthless.

I always sell my MMO accounts if i leave a game. Dark Age of Camelot in its prime i made around 10k in a month. Everyone wanted to play ranger or shadowblade 😀

I sold a WoW account for $900 way back when. If I could do it legally probably I swap between servers and mains enough that I don't have any use for my old characters it would have been a decent idea to sell them and make a new account.

Yes. Both a WoW and EVE account. Once I'm done playing, why wouldn't I try and make back a little of the money I spent? Though I agree with lupi; if it were legal then the cost would come down some.

You talk about it like your selling cocaine or some shit....I say who gives a damn, if I ever did play an MMO id sell that shit and wouldnt give a damn who knew.

I would love to sell my WoW account but it seems like it would really be a hassle unless I can find someone I know or someone I can trust to sell it to.

Discretion is a big thing for selling an account. If someone finds out you sold the account and reports it, the company will ban the account and the buyer will try and get their money back if it happened shortly after buying it.

Also, buyers don't want other people to know they are an "ebayer" and looks for people who can keep it all quiet.

Selling an MMO account certain does requires a fair bit of trust in both parties.

I'd sell my GW and EVE accounts in a heartbeat. But I just dont see any way to do so. 99.9% of those websites that claim to help with the sale are scam sites.

And no I would not be any less loyal to my MMO of choice, I just wish I could stop playing it once and for all.

I don't understand the dynamics of selling accounts in MMOs. Who are the buyers?

Why would someone spend $500 on an already-maxed-out toon? What are they going to do with it?

The few accounts I've sold over various games the reason was different for each.

One person bought an account for his wife so they could play together, another didn't have time to get to the stuff he wanted to see, but had the money. Some buy accounts because there is rare/limited edition stuff on the account.

I'm guessing they'd rather spend the money for an already trained toon than have to spend the time grinding the char up from beginning.

As for what you would do... well, I only played EVE but I know in that game there is no "end game" per se, so there's a lot to do.

guy gave me a ps3 and xbox 360 for my wow account a few years ago ... worth it! Met him on craiglist.

My BIL sold his account for a ps3 to a guy online (from NYC), surprised that actually worked out, haha.

The guy actually gave the account back to him about 10 months ago too, nice guy.
