MLK's daughter to march against gays

Have you seen (or heard) Billy Graham's kid?

Sometimes the apple does fall FAR from the tree.

Bush41 seems downright brilliant compared to the tool he sired.

On the other hand, Martin Luther King's widow Coretta has been a long-time, staunch supporter of same-sex marriage (as is pointed out in your link). Not sure what this proves, other than that there is a diversity of opinion on this issue within the African-American community. 🙂

I didn't know this:

'The civil-rights leader's [i.e., MLK's] most-trusted associate, Bayard Rustin, was "an out gay man who was unapologetic about his sexuality...'

Sad to see a relative of a Leadership that led against discrimination Leading FOR discrimination.

But not unexpected. One of the symptoms of feeling inferior is the need for somebody, anybody, to look down on. It is what fueled racial bigotry and it is what fuels homosexual bigotry. Not only do you get to vent all your self hate on others, but you get the pseudo-love of other bigots. And for these crumpets we sacrifice the Kingdom of Heaven.

Well said Sir.

 or  . Take your pick 🙂

"There has not been a unified voice out of our community since the assassination of Dr. King," Long said. A strong segment of society, he said, "want to go back to basic, fundamental moral beliefs."

Fvckin hypocrites! Do they already forget that slavery and 'white-power' used to be a "fundamental moral belief" too?

That's my point exactly. I think they are using the *same* arguments that tried to justify slavery, but using them to justify being bigoted against gays.

hypocrite? why, is she gay? or do you mean because of the marching her father did for black equality is equivalent to gay rights? while i neither condemn or support either stance, being black and being gay are not the same thing. homosexuality is a choice, race is not.

What do you mean by the "Kingdom Of Heaven"? It seems from your other posts that you don't even believe that a spiritual realm exists.

Don't generalize. It's bad for you.

Homosexuality is not a choice. You are born gay. In fact, 10-15% of all animals are born gay.

Shrimp start out their lives as male and turn female as they age, and they're not even married.

Lets not get into the whole "Homosexuality is/isn't a choice" discussion again. There are at least a dozen threads on it.

We have to. It's at the heart of the anti-gay movement. The irony is that those who will accept blacks for who they are and not what they are, find it unacceptable that someone is gay instead of looking at his/her character.

It's simply not fair.

I wish that were merely a generalization. Note that we STILL have high school principals that forbid students of different races to dance together based on 'moral beliefs' today.

Edit: I can tell you right now those beliefs didn't originate from this decade, thats for sure.

Too bad we can't do a world-wide poll of every homosexual and end this "is/isn't a choice" confusion once and for all. And yes, the irony abounds.

Sorry, I simply have to ask...

Dari, is it an accepted fact that homosexuality isn't a choice? I was under the impression that it's not clear. (Surely, you're not simply dismissing any studies that say otherwise)

To do that you have to define homosexuality. The definition has to be rigid and able to stand many tests.

IMHO, to be a homosexual is to be sexually attracted to the same sex. No need for corollaries or exceptions.

There are wild variations of this but the fundamentals are always there.

EDIT: It's not an accepted fact. That's why we continue to have these debates. As a compromise, I've always called it a natural aberration.

I see his view as a conclusion of his own research. At the moment, we can't effectively convince the world that homosexuality is/isn't a choice any more than we can convince half of the US that Bush did/didn't lie.
