MLB: Orioles

They just lost their 2nd straight the the Devil Rays.. the D-Rays, for Christ's sake! The Blue Jays are only 1.5 games back from the O's. They had so much promise at the beginning of the season, but a majority of the pitchers have shutdown, along with 95% of the offense. They can't score a run to save their lives. Next week against the Rangers is just going to be pathetic. I don't understand how they are choking so bad with such a talented team.

I wouldn't say choking, just playing to their abilities. I mean the offense is great, but Sosa is a huge problem. He is a big hole in the middle of that lineup. Also the pitching is very poor, even though they did get off to a hot start.

It's not the Orioles that are paying his salary... Anyways, not really a choke, more like they got off to too good of a start than they should have, when the Yankees & Red Sox both stunk up the beginning. The universe is just balancing itself out right now.

Anyways, I remember joking back in May when the Cubs were admist their first ~8 game losing streak, that we should just throw in the towels, and lend our entire starting pitching staff to the Orioles for just this season - just so I wouldn't have to watch another Yankee vs. Red Sox LCS.

ponson for nevin is aparently going down. 2 overpaid underachievers, not sure if this will help anyone cept ponsons numbers cause sandiego is such a pitchers park.

But Phil Nevin isn't going to help out the Oriole pitching staff...

They should just give the Pirates a call, they can get Kip Wells for a no-name AAA prospect. Or might be able to get one of the pitchers out of L.A. I just think the Mike Lowell contract is going to kill the Burnett deal, and I'm not sure why it's a package deal to begin with...

The deal is basically done.....except Nevin has to waive his limited no-trade clause in order for the deal to go through. As cubby1223 pointed out, Nevin won't help the Orioles a whole lot. The only thing he'll be able to do is take over at 1B so that Palmeiro can DH more often. Getting Javy Lopez back will help the offense a bit, but they need to do something about Sammy Sosa and get a solid veteran pitcher or two to help their young starters. I say bench Sosa, put Jay Gibbons in RF, and trade for a solid veteran pitcher or 2.

Lots of the high ranked teams (Red Sox, Yankees) are having trouble with lower ranked teams (Tampa Bay!)...it's weird.

damn you!!

..but its the truth. 🙁 the rest of the division was losing alongside us also, would have been a prime time to put some distance between them. but nope! now we have arizona and the dodgers breathing down our neck! such a great bullpen, but offensively, we're crap.

And now they blow a 4-1 lead to have it tied 4-4 in the 8th with no outs.

Have they lost yet?

I'm convinced they won't win another game all year...

I'm sure they'll figure out some way to lose within the next 10 minutes.

Wow... they won.

Wow, wtf is wrong with them...winning 2 out of the last 10? They are so on fire....

I was expecting their reliever to walk someone and then balk them all the way home.

They're tied with the Padres for the last 10 games. 1337.

looks like they are off to another streak...

5-0 after 2 innings...
2 outs in the top of the 10th, they give up a 3 run homer to a .250 hitter w/ only 8 HR's all year

Whew, atleast that one win was a fluke. They've lost the last 3 in a row. Glad to see they're consistent.

They're now 6 games back, and in 4th place.. right ahead of the devil rays.

But surely Eric Byrnes will put the Orioles over the top now, what with his .260 batting average and all.

Seriously, the Orioles need to throw in the towel, there's no way they can catch both the Yankees & Red Sox. And it looks like the wild-card is probably coming out of the West, either L.A. or Oakland.

Yeah, the O's have already lost their chance. I have tickets for the game tomorrow, but I'm not going.. two hours each way to see them lose.
