It's official.

Randy Johnson to the Yankees in exchange for Javier Vaszquez, Dioner Navarro, Brad Halsey and $9 million in cash.

Edit: 12/29

The Yanks and D-Backs were finalizing a swap for Randy Johnson, with the sides spending yesterday discussing these two scenarios. The final deal could end up being a combination of both.

A: In one scenario, the Bombers send Javier Vazquez and Brad Halsey, and prospects Abel Gomez and Melky Cabrera to the D-Backs in exchange for Johnson. They'd also throw in about $12 million to offset the difference between Johnson's $16 million salary and the $35.5 million remaining on Vazquez's contract.

B: In the other possibility, the Yanks would send Vazquez and top prospects Eric Duncan and Dioner Navarro to Arizona for the Unit. In this instance, the Bombers would include significantly less cash - perhaps in the neighborhood of $5 million ? because they'd be losing their two best minor leaguers.

Edit: 12/21 Dodgers pull out

Original trade scenario:

The Yankees have reached agreement on the principal players in a three-team blockbuster trade...

The Yankees would receive the 41-year-old Johnson in the deal while sending pitcher Javier Vazquez and two minor-league prospects, catcher Dioner Navarro and third baseman Eric Duncan, to the Dodgers, according to an Arizona source. The Dodgers would send pitchers Brad Penny and Yhency Brazoban and outfielder/first baseman Shawn Green to Arizona to complete the deal.

Dodgers trade:

Shawn Green
Brad Penny
Yhency Brazoban
Brandon Weeden
Kaz Ishii

Arizona trades:

Randy Johnson

New York trades:

Javier Vazquez
Dioner Navarro
Eric Duncan

no way....Those are the 2 best yankee prospects. AND, a good young pitcher. If this is true, that is a horrible deal....

So.....who you think wins out of the 3 team trade?

Dodgers get a bright young future, both Dioner Navarro and Eric Duncan are top prospects.

Arizona gets three possible starters.

Yanks get their best arm since Clemens.

Take your pick!

Dodgers have nooo power hitting whatsoever. Pitching is great but no hitting at all with Green and Beltre gone.

wow.. what a day for big name pitchers!

Pedro to Mets
Hudson to Braves
Johnson to Yanks

...crazy!! of course my wonderful Mets got the worst of the lot but who knows

🙂 I'm certainly optimistic about Pedro and am very happy that he's a Met but you are right..its hard to please a Mets fan since most great players we get turn to crap.

Yanks gave up alot to get RJ. They can't keep giving up their farm system..do they have ANYONE in their minor league system??!!

😉 heh.. its Omar's master plan to turn Shea into "Little Santo Domingo"! Pedro is the beginning... the rest will surely come...

Seem to forget the redsox got Wells, woo hoo!

I mean, sunofa..........

Well, maybe he'll win a few games for us.

the Yankees have been giving up top prospects for star players for YEARS now. The real question is how did they even have the resources (besides cash) to make the trade in the first place

I don't know if I like this trade. I like Javier a lot and I think he needed last year to play a lot better this year. Duncan is only 20, and is one of the best power hitting prospects in the minors. Navarro is getting a little older and may not have a chance to play so long as Posada doesn't DH. However, I like the Yanks chances this coming year either way.

Johnson
Mussina
Pavano
Wright
Milton

Talk about an upgrade. And I didn't even mention the bullpen yet!

As a Red Sox fan, I can only hope Old Man Time finally catches up with Mr. Johnson. :|

Oh well, at least the Sox won this year. 🙂
