Looks like Javy Vasquez doesn't want to go to LA and refuses to report to the Dodgers and take a physical. So he is part of the reason why the deal is falling through.

Javy says no to LA

What's the point of a no-trade clause if a guy like Vazquez can do the same thing?

I'm sure Javy will enjoy playing for the person he fired (Moorad) and probably demand a trade after one year. Hopefully the Mets will pick him up when that happens.

How about that $25 million luxury tax the Yanks have to play. I wonder if any teams will actually use any money they get to make their team better. :disgust:

I can only imagine the $200+ million payroll the Yanks will have opening day..my goodness. $16 million for 2 years contract extension for RJ. RJ is still awesome though I wonder how much his knees have left. (thats his only problem right?? not really sure)

Vazquez, who struggled during the second half of last season -- his first with New York since being acquired in a 2003 offseason trade -- said last week that it would be a mistake for the Yankees to move him.

I wonder if he'll refuse to go to Arizona for a physical, like he was talking about with LA. While very immature, frankly, being that a lot of baseball players ARE immature (hell, Randy Johnson would only accept a trade to the Yankees), I guess it's fine.

did you hear the whole story?? he never refused to go, he had just gotten to central america with his family for christmas and they wanted him in LA the NEXT day. the yankees and he wanted a conditional type contract where they do the physical after he gets back from his family vacation, but LA said NO.

basically, LA chickened out and didn't want to live up to their part of the bargain so they used Vazquez as the scapegoat.

I wonder how Randy will feel if he never wins another world series...or if the dodgers end up winning the world series, or id the diamondbacks end up winning.

If he has a season on par with those of the past, he should in the running for a Cy Young once again. As for the Dodgers or Diamondbacks, they're certainly missing some key pieces, so it's unlikely they'll be in the running for a wild card slot, at the very least.

Hopefully NY will pick up Beltran, Delgado, Manny Ramirez, and Zito. They could just get rid of the All Star game and call it the first annual "Yankee AllStar game". Then when they don't win it all, we can laugh while NYY fans pull their hair out [again].

Bump for Boston fans

Considering Randy's lifetime record against the Red Sox, I'm not too concerned.

"Borrowed" from ESPN (I think)

He might do better in Yankee Stadium against the BoSox, but Fenway Park is a killer for left handers. Can't wait for the eventual Schilling vs Johnson matchups coming up next season.
