As a Yankee fan, i am feeling the Mets fans pain right now. It sucks, but there is always next year.
Maybe it's just me, but while this loss obviously sucks, I'm still proud of my Mets. I have yet to be spoiled by the expectation that they'll get to the playoffs every year. Hell, this is the team that I stood by through many pitiful seasons, so the fact that they made it so far, so quickly after years of sucking, still is a big deal for me.
No Bonilla, Alomar (not Sandy) or Mo Vaughn here. 🙂
By buying tons of high priced free agents, Yankee style. I can't tell how happy I am that they LOST.Originally posted by: isasir

Why bring up Floyd, when the smart decision is to move the runners over with a bunt??

I think the mets got lucky and were hang gliding all the way through the series. Pitchers and catchers made bad decisions. They threw their worst pitches during timely at bats. The home rome in the 9th off a hanging high-in-the-zone change up was when the mets luck was up.
Oh well. Mets need a closer and maybe some more relief picthing. Though it all depends on how the whole team plays that matters most. That's what's sad. Who the hell knows how well a team plays next season?
Mets need a closer? Who is that Billy Wagner fellow in the bullpen?
The guy who lost the confidence of his manager I guess.
Really? Did you even watch the game? It was a tie game and Heilman pitched lights out the inning before. Why would you burn your closer in a tie game when you have a strong arm in the game already and can use him for another inning?
It wasnt a save situation, and you dont automatically bring your closer into a tie game in the 9th.
Automatically, no. But in an elimination game a lot of mangers would throw their top guy out there for 2 innings and hope for a run.
Exactly. A lot of managers would. A lot of managers would also have brought in the lefty against the lefty yesterday. Willie didn't and it worked for him that time.
That doesn't mean that the Mets need a closer. They didn't lose this series becuase of lack of a closer, they lose becuase they didn't get timely hitting.
Pedro Martinez is ahead of schedule in his rehab from rotator cuff surgery, and could return to action before the All-Star break next season.
The word from associates close to Mets starter Pedro Martinez is that the three-time Cy Young Award winner is ahead of schedule in his rehab from rotator cuff surgery, and that he could return to action ahead of schedule, meaning before the All-Star break next season. Former Red Sox doctor Bill Morgan and Mets doctor Richard Altchek used an innovative technique during the surgery in which they reattached portions of Martinez? shoulder in such a way that he would not lose flexibility, allowing him to retain full range of motion once his recovery is complete. His velocity should also improve upon the mid- to high-80s fastball he was throwing last summer. Although the surgical technique may not have been available five years ago, this procedure repaired the same tear in the rotator cuff that Martinez developed in the middle of the 2001 season with the Red Sox. Martinez, fearing that the operation would turn out as disastrous to his career as it proved for his brother Ramon, opted for rest and rehab instead.

Braves general manager John Schuerholz said the Braves might be involved in one or more transactions this week. San Diego and Cincinnati are among teams interested in second baseman Marcus Giles. The Padres have a setup reliever the Braves covet, Scott Linebrink. The Braves are in the market for a setup man along with a left-handed reliever, and have also inquired about starting pitchers.

The Padres and Mets swapped four role players Wednesday, with San Diego sending relief pitcher Jon Adkins and reserve outfielder Ben Johnson to New York for relievers Heath Bell and Royce Ring in a deal between NL division winners.
Adkins was 2-1 with a 3.98 ERA in 55 games last season, mostly pitching in middle relief and setup spots. Johnson, the Padres' minor league player of the year in 2005, hit .250 with four homers and 12 RBIs in 120 at-bats.

Mets sign Moises Alou for one year/$7.5 million plus an option year. eh.. guess thats fine since its only a year plus if he stays healthy he can be that righty power bat the Mets need to balance out the lineup. Wonder what this does to Lastings Milledge.
Mets made a minor move with the Marlins.
Mets acquired LHP Jason Vargas and LHP Adam Bostick from the Marlins for RHP Matt Lindstrom and RHP Henry Owens.
