Mitsubishi Lancer exhaust?

This is in regards to the NON Evo Lancer...

I'm looking HERE at the Road Race line of products for the Lancer, and they have the following choices:

  • GReddy "Evolution" Series Catback Exhaust
  • Road Race Lancer Exhaust

I emailed the guy asking about the HP gains and which is better and recommended, he replied with the following:

Power wise they are the same. I like the Greddy but it is perhaps not worth the cash difference. I like our exhaust because it sounds the same as
Greddy but cheaper

So I'm wondering, what have YOU guys seen/heard in regards to the exhaust? One is a cat-back system one is not...but same HP gains...so what's the point of the cat-back? Which would suit me best if I just plan on doing few mods to the car, such as intake, exhaust, and struts (yes, i'm rather ignorant about cars...and no, I'm not gonna rice out the car)? I intend to eventually get an Evo or some other fast stock car, so I won't go heavy on mods (esp since it's FWD)

Thanks for the help/advice/rants/etc.

this is sort of unrelated...but is the stock exhaust on the Lancer Evo a large tip exhaust? I saw one in our company parking lot the other day and he still had his temporary license tag but a HUGE exhaust. Just wondering if its stock or he modified it.

no. it's small. it's hard to see, but here's a somewhat view of it: CARPOINT

So yeah, the guy has a modified exhaust. I myself don't want a huge exhaust. I'd rather have it discreet 🙂

money. plus, i don't want to make this a "fast" car. just something to help it drive better 🙂

I doubt you'd really notice a few HP in everyday driving. Anyhow, you shouldn't really compare the tail section they're selling you for $270 to the cat-back Greddy (which is superior). Greddy is one of the top manufacturers so I wouldn't doubt you'll be happy with their product. I have a Tanabe on my car (mainly because it was a great deal).

you wont notice either, except for noise difference. You wouldnt be able to tell the difference between the two except maybe for slightly different noise signatures.

And the guy asked if the EVO exhaust is big, not the stock econobox lancer.

the greddy EVO series is one of the quietest exhaust systems on the market. the build quality is also superior compared to the cheap knockoffs...

Dude, a mew exhaust isn't going to help your car out at all. The performance increase and benifit is almost null.

Putting aftermarket exhaust on your Lancer is not going to give you any noticable performance gains. And even if it did, it would still be slower than crap so it's not really worth it.

I noticed a slight performance increase with a slightly larger catback and straight-through muffler..didn't notice squat with an intake, though.

I doubt it, since I was 'told' that a CAI would make more difference..lol

Going from 1 7/8" piping and a very restrictive muffler to a 2.25" with straight-through is going to make a little difference..

That's not an Evo. That's just a Lancer. Shiva112 is asking about the Evo.

EDIT: Evo Butt...I see a larger-than-normal exhaust.

either way you're going to be losing torque, so unless you're at full throttle all the time maybe that's what you were feeling?

CAI's are pretty proven dyno-wise

Dont bother, save your money.

Unless you're going to be at full throttle most of the time, you wont notice much. Truthfully, changing to a less restrictive exhaust will lower your lowend efficiency, so unless you're use to redlining, save your money. remember, you dont have a turbo.

if you want some evidence of the " loss of low end power due to freer flowing exhaust", look at the nissan maxima, their exhaust has a set of flaps that will open when you're at wide open throttle.

CAI, its not a bad investment, you'll notice a slight gain, but not much, its all mental.
