The prosecutor said the GJ presentation will take until mid-October, so don't look for any resolution soon.

It's as if they're going out of their way to make Officer Wilson look racist.
.....

ugh, if Wilson and the department has any brains, they'll decline the KKK's money. What a shit show.

I've never understood this line of thinking. If my worst enemy wanted to give me money I would happily take it and put it toward productive uses - probably to their ruin.

I think they're hoping to diffuse the situation by prolonging it. The event transpired over the course of maybe 2 minutes, mid October would allow them to agonize over every second (that isn't recorded) for an entire day.

In other news, a shitstorm could be brewing if westboro shows up.

I have no doubt that Officer Wilson will refuse this money and possibly speak out against anyone that's trying to make this into a race based incident.

It'd be quite funny if he could find a way to make a truly anonymous donation to college funds for minorities with that money. Then tell the KKK "Hey guess where your money went?"

I've never understood this line of thinking.
Of course you don't.

Let me paraphrase what you saw on CNN.

"We threaten to be disorderly and disobey the law if you do not arrest this man for being disorderly and not obeying the law!!"

:D

And saw this on the web:

What a completely meaningless list. Zero context whatsoever. And I'm betting in every one of those cases the person responsible has been arrested.

Only one other source for that on the web other than this thread.

Edit: nope I was wrong. The source seems to be Ted Nugent according to a few places.

How many of those cases involved a citizen being shot by an authority figure? The nature of power and control is the issue when the police (or wannabe police like George Zimmerman) are shooting civilians. We don't hear about every black person that's killed by a white person either; we hear about the ones who are killed by the professionals hired to protect us from harm. We hold law enforcement to a different standard than civilians. Why does this surprise you?

So, what are all the different issues that are getting intertwined like a plate of spaggetti?

1) What actual events took place between the time Wilson drove up on Brown and Johnson and the fatal shooting of Brown.

2) Percieved racial animosity by residents of Ferguson relating the Cops patrolling the area.

3) Early on a lack of transparency/openess from PD on information in the case. Continuing.

4) Socio-economic concerns in Ferguson that fuel lack of privelage and oppurtunity.

5) ???

6) Officer transparency through mandatory cameras

7) Lethality of Officer training/protocol

8) ???

I see some stuff piggy backing on #1, and I don't think we are sure #1 is going to have the legs to carry all that stuff and worse it may be the wrong item to place/wedge all the other concerns along with.

Let me know when that list includes an unarmed white teenager killed by a black police officer.

The NYT article still has Wilson being injured.

So I think we can now conclude that he is injured.

I would add police officer training and professionalism to the list. My biggest issue with anything that's happened is that several officers have appeared on film telling protesters they will shoot them and to "fuck off" (or variations). If you work for a telemarketing company and you tell a particularly awful customer to "fuck off," you're getting fired on the spot. I'm of the frame of mind that we should hold police to a slightly higher standard than a minimum wage telemarketer. So, hey, is that protester really annoying you to the point where you need to scream "I will fucking kill you"? That lack of professionalism means you aren't fit to be a police officer. Maybe you should go into telemarketing.

a whole lot of mob inciting going on. +1 on wilson not being charged

+2 with a brief surge in mob violence

+3 with big govt getting involved and finding a quack special prosecutor to throw charges at request of mob

+4 on nobody learning a damn thing from all this

It would be interesting to note how many on that list of crimes are found guilty and what sentences they will receive.

http://sentencingproject.org/doc/publications/rd_ICCPR Race and Justice Shadow Report.pdf
Numerous studies have shown that two racial variables affect capital punishment sentencing: the race of the perpetrator and the race of the victim. First, defendants convicted of the homicide of a white victim are substantially more likely to face the death penalty than those convicted of killing nonwhite victims.

White people constitute half of murder victims in the United States each year,
70 but 77% of persons executed since 1976 were convicted of killing white victims. Comparatively, black people also constitute half of murder victims,72 but only 13% of persons executed since 1976 were convicted of killing black victims.

A 1990 Government Accountability Office survey of 28 separate studies found that in 82% of the studies, the race of the victim was shown to influence the likelihood of a defendant receiving the death penalty, with those convicted of murdering white victims more likely to be sentenced to death than those
convicted of murdering black victims even when the cases were controlled for crime-specific variables.

Who knows maybe the people who conducted that study were high or something.

Back on topic. Anyone have any links to Mike Browns friend recanting earlier testimony from a news site? haven't found one yet. If he does recant earlier testimony and state that Mike Brown tried to grab Officer Wilson's gun then that is strong evidence that Officer Wilson should be exonerated.

Ah yes, leave it to me to leave a major item of my list. The handling and concerns over militarization of the police and how the protesting/protesters/reporters were handled.

The officers are not on scene to make friends with protestors. They are there to prevent violence.

I don't have any knowledge of police training, I just know that some times the only way to get a crazy person to not do what they intend to do, is to act crazier than that person.

The officer doesn't know for 100% sure which person in the crowd is just there to sing kumbaya and which person is about to throw a molotov cocktail.

And here is the flip side to your rant - Who is qualified for police work, and why isn't that person joining the force? Holds true for any organization or business, you don't have the luxury of picking and choosing the best people in the world, you have to get by the best you can with the resources available to you.

criminal stats overwhelmingly affect blacks, because blacks are overwhelmingly poverty stricken. always been my thought.

to me, its a poverty issue at the core.

Here is an interesting TED talk that touches on the subject of poverty.

https://www.ted.com/talks/richard_wilkinson

"How inequality harms societies."

Interesting data from different countries and then different states within the U.S.
