Seems like they know exactly what they were doing. What are the odds of getting caught doing something they were well prepared for?

Things are always what they seem. The probability that they got lucky this time is just as likely as the probability that they were "professional" . IMO true professionals don't waste their time on this petty theft. and yes this is a petty heist. Maybe this was an act of proving ones capabilities to a crew that runs real heists....who knows.

They saw a job they figured they could do well enough and get away with. Nothing here implies that they're "world class thieves," otherwise they wouldn't be wasting time with this. Small time crooks pulling off an easy enough job. That's pretty much it.

There was an episode of "Masterminds" on TruTV that had a guy who used the exact same method to burglarize several different places including a best buy (or similar electronics store) IIRC.

Do apple hipster douchebags also indulge in rock climbing? I would find the closest REI in proximity to a Starbucks. Case closed 🙂

I wonder how much less than $26k they will actually get after selling the hot laptops (they won't be able to sell at retail value).

Seems like a lot of effort and risk for a reasonably small return.

Those thieves showed some major restraint. Stupid thugs don't go through all that work and leave when there is so much more to take. These guys knew if they got greedy they'd do something stupid and get nailed.

I'll bet they wanted more but cutting the hole in the roof took more time than they anticipated so they ran out of time.

Well, maybe it was a training exercise? Maybe they are like some super pro elite thieves and they are training a new guy or something... *shrug*

But think about it. Where are they getting the $26k value number from? Are they adding up the retail value of each laptop that was stolen? If so then I'm pretty sure that the thieves will not be selling them at retail price. More like dirty cheap to get rid of them. $10-15K total maybe?

Dang, that's almost Hollywood material.. where's Mark Walberg.

On a completely unrelated note I got a new shipment of 20 apple laptops for sale! Come see my van outside.

I bet the people who did this are extremely talented professional thieves who had a run-in with an asshole best buy supervisor and did this simply to get back at the store. 😛 This job might have taken a talented team what? An hour or two to case and maybe 30 minutes to execute assuming the roof wasn't hard to cut through?

Silly to take serial numbered items like that. They'll be noticed quickly and traced right back to them.

No, the serial numbers might be traced to the buyers (assuming they go online and register/update, and that Apple and BB jointly track such things), in some other town, who'll have very generic descriptions of the sellers; who may or may not be the thieves.

Assuming two people and $13k for selling or fencing at 50% = ~$6.5k per person. It's certainly not a large reward, but "risk" is always relative to the person taking it.

Assuming each laptop is about $1K, that would be 26 laptops. That's a pretty large amount of loot for a few people to carry.
They're Apple laptops dude. They only needed to steal like... two? of those overpriced pieces of crap. :sneaky:

I don't know man. This crew seems a little too smart and well-equipped to be dealing with CL/eBay.

They probably have a real fence.

yeah they will prob have a broker or find a way to launder them back into semi legit channels..

CL/ebay is too obvious and these guys are obviously not stupid
