Inside A Secret NHL Focus Group: How A Top GOP Strategist Is Helping Hockey Owners Craft Their Lockout Propaganda

You're going to hear a lot about "shared sacrifice" from the NHL in the days and weeks to come. That's the word from inside a secret emergency PR focus group, in which a top Republican Party strategist tested pro-ownership messages on a captive audience of hockey fans. One of those fans shared the documents with us, for a sneak preview of the propaganda campaign the NHL will be unloading on the public as the lockout drags on. Here's a look at the bullshit on the menu before the league serves it to you.

There's some decent college teams around here that are fun to watch. Until the NFL season is over I'll be okay. The Avalanche haven't been very good lately anyway so I've been losing interest.

I care, I am so missing hockey right now. I am going to try and catch some KHL games.

me to.

I try to go to a local team called the "ice hogs". tickets are $20 for good seats and my kids have a blast.

hockey is so much better in person then on tv. but i do enjoy watching on tv.

I think the CBC should carry OHL, QMJL and WHL games. I am sure they would be willing to sell the TV rights for next to nothing. The exposure would be great for junior hockey.

NHL doesn't care for Canada, why should we Canadians care about it?

i think the nearest team aside from the uni (which plays only 4 or 5 home games per season) is almost 2 hours away, not driving that far for that kind of thing. crappy town. the AHL affiliate is in charlotte, 5 hours away, the nearest ahl club is in norfolk, which is still a good drive at like 2.5 or 3 hours. tempting. if the checkers play in raleigh ill try to see them but i think im out of town that day

I've been shooting Ontario Junior A hockey for cable access for over a year now. Haven't seen a spike in attendance. Out in the country it's different but urban Canadians prefer NHL hockey over the lower leagues. The OHL Brampton Batallion are supposedly moving to North Bay because they just can fill the seats down here. A lot of the junior and minor league teams have money problems. Even the ones that are good.

I used to care about the NHL until they convinced me that it was silly of me to care more about it than the players and the owners care about it. Now I don't give a flying f what they do.
