So, let's get this straight...errr...poor choice of words....let's clarify this.

Gay blogger activist Perez Hilton asks Prejean a politically charged question. She answers that we live in a land where you can choose one or the other but she personally believes that marriage is between a man and a woman.

In response, she had her chance at the crown removed by Hilton. She's been called a bitch by Hilton who then turns around and apologizes, takes back the apology and says he wish he would have called her a c**t. She's been ridiculed for having implants, called all sorts of name, and now has had nude modeling photos of her released.

Yet she's the hateful and intolerant one.

Stay classy.

No she tried to say you have a choice but that is not true. Then she said it is between a man and a woman which goes against the first part of her answer. She contradicted herself in her own answer. She lost as she is an idiot and could not even give a straight answer.

But maybe we should really hold marriage up and ban divorce, Blacks and Whites from marrying, etc... Hell it was against the law for whites and blacks to marry until 1967 in the US and many used the same type of hate speech to try and say it would break marriage up to allow them to marry.
Hell its funny that Iran says the same thing about gay marriage as many bigots in this country. Nice to know if you are against gay marriage you have ally in Iran.

States where Gay Marriage is legal:
Connecticut
Iowa
New York (recognizes marriage outside of state)
Massachusetts
New Hamshire
Vermont
and the District of Columbia

And there are more states coming. So no, she didn't contradict herself.

The comparison to interracial marriage is poor comparison IMHO. The traditional view on marriage is a man and a woman. Not a white man and a white woman or a black man and a black woman. It is an apples to oranges comparison.

Personally, I think government needs to get the hell out of the marriage business. Why do we have to have marriage recognized by the government? We don't. It's just another form of taxation and control and these sort of problems are inevitable because of it.

No here full answer was...

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

We do NOT live in a nation where you can choose. It is against federal law; the Defense of Marriage act says so. I do HR for the Fed Gov so I know this well due to regs.

And now race is not apples to oranges. Look at the history of marriage.
?There have been countless restrictions placed on marriage by different societies throughout human history, including recently. Restrictions against polygamy and marrying within a particular group or race have been common.?
Marriage was between the same race, country people, or even social classes. In the US religious people were against removing laws that kept blacks from marrying white and used the same hate speech that is used today against gays being able to marry.

You can see she started to give a half ass PC answer then switched back to anti-gay marriage. But even then in the same sentance she switched.

If she gave a clear answer on why she was against it then she may have won. But she did not. She half assed it and just looked like a dumb bigot.

ok i see. i dont think she would've been as vilified if she left out the "in my country" part. but whatever. it's still her opinion. i used to think all people who dont support gay marriage hate gays until I had a chat about this with my wife's grandpa. He truly is one of the nicest person Ive met and I assumed he'd be for gay marriage considering how liberal he is. but I was a little taken aback to find that he thinks marriage should be between a man and a woman. He doesnt hate gays and supports gay unions with all the same benefits/miseries as married couples. but he doesnt think the term marriage should be given to man-man or woman-woman.

That conversation really opened my eyes to the other side of the argument.

Answer this. Before Loving vs. Virginia, could black people marry white people?

That's just not true. Not long ago, marriage was definitely thought of as only intraracial. The word "miscegenation" literally means "the mixing of kinds," and for much of human history, interracial relationships were considered wrong and nontraditional. Racism likened interracial relationships to inter-species relationships, which are (for good reason) stigmatized, and nontraditional.

The arguments against interracial marriage are very similar to, and coming from the same people as the arguments against gay marriage.

Meh...about the controversy...I could not possibly care less. She was asked for an opinion...and she gave it. Now she's being flamed for daring to have an opinion that's counter to the pro-gay marriage agenda. Fuck em all.

Other than that, I'd certainly enjoy seeing her surgically-enhanced rubber baby fun bags!

That would depend on the state.

two different arguments. one is based on the amount of pigment in a person's skin the other is based on a person's actions/choice.

I'm trying not to turn this into a P&N thread anymore than it already is but I still don't find the comparison to interracial marriage and the pro-gay marriage movement to be a valid one. And you're talking to a guy in an interracial marriage.

I also don't think Prejean said anything particularly objectionable. She stated her personal belief to a highly charged question (that probably shouldn't have been asked in that setting to begin with) in probably the least offensive way possible. The response from the other side has been absolutely jaw-dropping though. They are on an all out mission to completely destroy her now.

I'll just go back and state my personal belief that this is yet another area in our lives that government needs to get the hell out of.

Of course they are, they're free minded, open minded people, who respect everyone's opinions, and aren't busy bodies or interfering...except when they meet people who disagree with them.

Not to mention they have the same sort of maturity level as the sort of people like Phokus do on this forum.

You know, make a big deal out of nothing, try to stir up controversy, etc.

I'm just curious why you guys aren't going after Obama and Biden with the same viciousness you are going after this woman for expressing her opinion? They have both expressed the exact same opinion and are in places where their opinions actually matter.

That and also how much "negro" you were.

In the Monks case (Estate of Monks, 4. Civ. 2835, Records of California Court of Appeals, Fourth district), the Superior Court of San Diego County in 1939 decided to invalidate the marriage of Marie Antoinette and Allan Monks because she was deemed to have "one eight negro blood".

lol, stuck in the 1950s are we? Let us know when you change your mind and go gay since you just admitted to finding men sexually attractive and simply choosing women instead.

I know. Just like them damm negros trying to sit in the white only seat. They are not going to get any support that way. They just need to go to the back of the bus and be quiet. Right.

Yeah, I agree. I support gay marriage but I agree that the response to this was way out of proportion with what she said. Unfortunately there are plenty of people in this thread who have decided that anyone who disagrees with her opinion must be some sort of loud-mouthed idiot. It sure makes arguing easier when you pretend that everyone you disagree with is an extremist asshole.

I think you'll find the pro-gay marriage crowd was upset with Obama for his position, although frankly they probably think he's pandering and didn't want to engage on the issue.

Otoh, he came out against Prop 8, so it's not true that he has the same exact position. He is against banning same sex marriage. Similar but not exactly the same as being personally against abortion but not being in favor of outlawing it completely.

For the record, Perez Hilton is a douche, the names he called her are unacceptable, and she is entitled to her opinion. I definitely feel she was unfairly attacked and demonized for holding an opinion of half the country. However, she's since seized the reigns and joined up with the ban gay marriage brigade, so my sympathy is limited.
