I am about to believe that argument... because I am sorta in that situation
Absolutely. Stress is right up there with a crappy diet and a poor sleeping schedule in terms of your health. I've quit two jobs due to high stress - I was coming home super tense, my shoulders and neck in knots, had problems sleeping, and stressed out all day. Stress can kill you if you don't manage it right. There was a study done some time ago at one of the European countries that has state-managed healthcare provided free to all citizens; because people weren't stressing out about their jobs because they were taken care of by the country's system, they lived MUCH longer lives than your typical American did. Of course, they drank and smoked all the time and still managed to kill themselves off all the same
I've found that the first key to managing stress is sleep. No one wants to hear that going to bed early will solve most of their problems, but I've found that it's absolutely true over the last month. Tough situations, mean bosses, and otherwise stressful work environments are MUCH easier to deal with if you've been going to bed early and consistently. Try going to bed at 9:00pm for a week and see if there is a difference in how you feel.
Second, you're a free man. No one is forcing you to work where you work. I used to manage a pizza restaurant and I felt somewhat trapped because our managers kept quitting and at one point we were down to only two other managers for the whole store, aside from myself. With plenty of notice, I quit and the world kept on turning. Don't ever feel like you can't quit or can't find another job - the company will go on without you and there are millions upon millions of other jobs available. You are only as stuck in a crappy job as you want to be. Whatever your excuse may be - fear, laziness, whatever - the end results are still the same - you're stuck at a crappy job. No one is going to hand you a wonderful job on a silver platter; I've bounced from job to job until I found ones that I really liked, both working in and as far as the environment and people go.
Anyway, start hitting the sack early and in a couple weeks if you're still feeling the same way, get your resume out there and get ready to quit!
