I thought Mirror's Edge was coming out on 11/11/2008. I swear a day or two after release, it was reviewed for the PC on Gamespot and got a 7.0. I was surprised there was no talk about it at all on here. A few days later, still nothing, so I go back to Gamespot, see the PC version has no review and is dated for a 1/6/09 release. The 360/PS3 version still has the 7.0.

It is possible I was looking at the 360 review score originally or imagining that I was looking at the PC review! 😕 Was there some PC specific problems at the last moment and they pushed it back? Or was the PC version never slated to be released with the 360 version?

I thought this game was gonna be talked about a lot but I've heard nothing lately as opposed to a few months ago.
 
Typical EA move. Delay the PC release so by the time it stops selling as well on consoles they can dump it on the PC market for some extra cash. I guarantee it's ready to go for PC and they're just intentionally waiting.
 
Or maybe it's because people are likely to just steal it on PC if a PC version is available? Saw something on gamasutra about devs talking about how PC piracy eats into their console sales (don't even think that was from EA specifically).

Mind you I'm a PC gamer too, but I'm just speculating on why there might be a delay (not that other publishers don't do the same on PC like with GTA).

EA is hostile towards PC gamers, it pretty much boils down to that. Their DRM is not meant to stop piracy but to kill the PC second hand market, despite what people like to believe they are not so stupid as to not realize every game out there is pirated and the harsher they get with DRM the faster it'll get cracked/leaked then cracked.

And you are probably right, the delay of this game for the PC is probably meant to boost sales some how. This game falls short by PC standards with liner levels and little to no replay value. It IS however awesome to rent and play thorough once which means renting it for a console (played through about half of it). The controls are also geared towards a game pad (and it works well once you get the feel for it). The only way this could work for the PC is they make this incredibly easy to mod with much bigger maps that have many paths along with new enemies and improved combat

I also suspect that this game will have a higher percentage of piracy because those who buy PC games will stay away &/or get the console version, while people who pirate will just download it to see what it is like. EA will scream piracy when they doomed it for PC because of the low standards of console games they use. Then there is the console piracy, now I'd like to see some numbers on that.
 
If PC gaming ever does kick the bucket it will be a sad day. I just can't see modding communities ever springing up for consoles, even if developers give us the tools for content creation. The ease and availability of player made content has been a huge factor for me over the last few years. Half-life, for example, while an amazing game, had an awesome modding community. CS, Natural Selection, and campaigns like USS Darkstar and They Hunger? Even if you never played the original campaign the game paid for itself.

That said, I'm really interested in Mirror's Edge. Looks fun, even if it is linear.
 
I've always thought that Mirror's Edge could easily be another Daikatana or Starcraft - it's going to either be very, very good or very, very bad depending on how it's done.

What has been said about EA is correct. However, it is worth noting that game manufacturers don't get a penny of any secondhand game sales - were it not for fair use laws, they'd make it illegal to sell used games at all. As such, EA has employed many legal weasels to try and make it as difficult as possible to do so.

It kinda looks cool, but I still don't completely understand what the game's about. If it's on PS3, maybe I'll download the demo or rent it.

Then lets shut down all the second hand book stores.

Perhaps piracy would be less if people could buy a cheap copy of a PC game rather then full price for something that has no demo or one that doesn't represent the game. One of the big reasons sited by pirates is that they can't afford for new games.

Then you have rentals, that must kill sales right? Only for bad games.
Make a quality game and people will go out and buy it so they can keep playing it.

So take your sympathy for EA with you and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

It's just a high-adrenaline activity, an extreme sport if you prefer, nothing wrong with that.

It's like saying football is just people throwing and kicking a ball around for no apparent reason so that means it sucks.

I'm looking forward to the PC version of Mirror's Edge.

That said I have an awful lot of games installed on my HD made by EA. I'm not a big fan of their tactics, but to say they are hostile to the PC is a bit harsh. I'm not sure what you are saying about the second hand market, unless there's an issue with their newer titles then I haven't had a problem selling my older EA games.

They delay PC games for the exact reason mindcycle said. It protects all their console sales and when that hype dies down they sell it to the PC market and hope for the best.

We'll never see any console piracy numbers till the cash cows dry up.

The idea behind the game was to take FPS in a different direction as far as movement goes. They wanted to allow scaling buildings, walls, ledges and sliding under stuff, tumbling, etc. It was just suppose to be a tech demo and by the looks of things it's not much more then that.

Not even related to piracy, but just sales in general would be improved with a demo. Without a demo or a lot of crazy hype from people I personally know, I just can't get excited over something that is $50. I don't want to waste 2 days of download time with some pirate copy either. If they want me to give a crap about this game, they'll release a demo.

This isn't just PC games. I have never purchased a full price console game without playing it first. Maybe it's at a friend's house, maybe it's a display in a store (this happened before), or maybe I'm renting it from Blockbuster. I need to play the game before I'll throw down a bunch of money.
 
dice needs to stop with the other stuff and keep churning out BF games. nobody cares about mirror's edge, play once and forget games.
 
Coming from a free-running/gymnastics background, I was able to play this game over Christmas on the PS3...

I loved it, although, I was left wanting more. I thought it was such a great concept with poor EA execution. Graphics from the Unreal 3 engine were solid, gameplay and maneuverability were fantastic except for the occasional fluke...

I just hope they listen to the communities and bring out a sequel with more open worlds and a deeper fighting system...

Running around sidestepping off walls into a round-house to the face then disarm only to run and double-somersault onto another roof...Fantastic!

Amazing how EA is the devil, but one mention of pirating their games gets you flamed, by people that probably pirate >50% of their music no less.
 
People who have the console version have told me it's worth renting to try, but not worth buying. So releasing the PC version later had to hurt sales, it looked great in previews, but word of mouth has convinced me otherwise.
