Got mine quick from "Soundsource" on eBay. It doesnt look like he has any othrs for sale currently, but it was quick and painless.

On a side note, I picked up a nice camcorder bag for the Sharp at Circuit City. It's the Targus "Medium Blue Camcorder Bag" - model TRG DAVM15. I would give the link, but I cnat seem to get it without my session - just do a search for that model at CC and you wil see it. Very compact, very padded and tons of pockets. Fit ALL the accessories that came with Sharp, two extra extended batteries and two tapes. Inside has the removable velcro partitions - really nice and noth that crapy looking "leatherette."

Video looks ok but havent ported to TV yet - waiting to get my HTPC set up and then download through my AIW 8500DV. Wil report back then.

Hope it arrives before x-mas ^_^

oh btw.. i got my camera yesterday.. and i F#CKIN LOVE IT!

It is THE BEST CAMERA for the price around! and it is sooo much smaller than it looks in the pics...

i already picked up a uv filter, a cheap pocket tripod, and 50 panasonic dvm60ej tapes... gonna pick up a bag tonite.. and waiting on those extra batteries..

I've fooled around with it all nite last nite.... it's amazing.. i would really recommend picking one of these up off those ebay sellers... before they're all gone.

Just got my second AX1U in today and at first I thought I had the same problem as with the first one. Then I realized my mistake. I wasn't pushing the SD card in all the way before closing the door. I thought the door was supposed to push the card in. So I guess there was nothing wrong with the first cam I had either. Now if the Sharp tech support just could have helped me realize what I was doing wrong, then I wouldn't have had to send back one of their camers for no good reason.

Well, I can't believe my bad luck, I must be cursed or something. Today I got my AX1U from one of the EBay sellers and it has the EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE SD DOOR THAT THE ONE I SENT BACK TO BUY.COM HAD!! I just can't believe it, it's almost like I somehow got the exact same camera back, but this one was factory sealed and packaged so I don't see how that could be possible.

Again, the left side of the SD door does not close properly and so the card doesn't get pushed in all the way and I get a red icon blinking telling me to insert a card. You guys that have the camera... are you sure none of you has a problem with the SD door? Maybe I'm doing something wrong, I can't imagine how though since it's simply a matter of closing down the little door and pushing it in. Anyone have any idea what's going on here???

Well, I don't think what you described is a defect. I noticed that I had to push the sd card into the slot a little harder than I usually do with other cameras and when the card fully fits in, the door closes without a problem.

If you think this is a manufacture defect, you may get your third unit with the same problem...

Thanks Wei2cool. i wish someone would have told me sooner just to push the SD card in harder.

Guess that's what I get for not reading the manual closely enough.

got the cam and it's super great. the video quality seems "ok," but for 465 i'm not complaining. i seem to get dead pixels when i'm running through my tv, but after i disconnect and power down and wait a bit and power up it's fixed. weird. anyway, good deal, good cam.

So far, I am pretty satisfed with it. I have sold my Elura 40mc on half.com and decided to keep this one. I love its large zoom so that I can capture some something I can't see with my eyes while travelling.

Few questions ... can some comment about the quality of the video compared to other minidv units (don't bother comparing to Hi8 etc.)

How is the Digital Image Stablization when in full zoom mode ?

Is the video ... red color heavy ?

Does the zoom microphone truly pick up far away audio when you zoom in ?

How is the general feel of the camera ... does it feel flimsy and cheap like other $500 cameras ?

Does the tape loading mechanism feel like it can handle the task of tape swapping for the next couple of years ?

I can get this camera for $599 with free shipping ... but I don't want to regret the purchase ... Video quality is #1 requirement in my book.

Thanks.

Sony has a $100. rebate still in effect. I just got a Sony DCR-TRV25 for $745 shipped from camerclub.com. There are cheaper prices out there but alot of shady dealers as well. Everyone knows the quality of Sony. You just have to be willing to put up with their proprietary crap. Not only is the memory card proprietary, but the battery as well. Even their trademark name i-LINK which is the 1394 firewire cable seems to lead people to think they have to buy that from Sony as well(Not included with the camera). Concider that it may be worth the extra $50.
