Just called buy.com to figure out when will my order ship, guess what? THEY WANT TO CHARGE $10 for speaking with a live CSR!!!!!!
What the hell are they doing?????

Their number is 877-780-2464 I just talked to a CSR, no charge.

Unfortunately the CSR didn't tell me anything informative. He looked at the website and said "It looks like the camera is currently unavailable from the manufacturer. I'll have to check to see if it'll be available again and whether or not your order can be filled

I ordered Sat Nov 30th around 5pm EST

Somebody on another board said "I was just informed by buy.com that they are on back-order even though when I ordered it on friday they had it listed as in stock" which pretty much sounds like the same information I just got.

My CSR said he'd email me when he got the information. I'll let y'all know if I hear anything :(

Just a followup. My order has also reverted to Processing. CRAPPPP!!!! I think everybody should call them up and ask what's going on, maybe then they'll get on it and let us know. I want this freakin' camera!

You know, now there is another guy with 7 of these on EBay for a "buy it now" price of $490 + $15 shipping, total of $505, which is about $5 more than what I'm paying at Buy.com after tax. Another guy on EBay has 25 of them with "buy it now" of $500. I have to wonder where all these cameras are coming from... there's no way they are coming from Buy.com as someone suggested earlier. This Buy.com deal is really starting to sour on me now when i see that I can get it so easily for almost the same price on EBay of all places. Someting strange about this whole thing.

Morph links to those auctions please, I cant find them with a fleabay search.
Man this is a good camera. and I am getting one somewhere.

Edit: Found them, now I am getting suspicious. I asked one of the sellers how
he can sell this camera so cheaply. He said he got it from Sharp at a special colseout.
Why would Sharp closeout a brand new model camera? Why dont any major stores
carry these? IE Sears, Bestbuy, Circuitcity, etc.

Anyone have any experience with the warranties these guys are selling with the cameras?

Haha. All I know is I woulnd't take a Sharp (or RCA, Panasonic or any of that other junk) if you paid me to! I saw some folks talking about the Sony deal, and if anyone out there is smart, I would try to jump on that! 2 biggest rules for buying digicams:

1) Buy a Canon!
2) If you can't afford a Canon, get a Sony

My brother has a Canon XL1 with all the goodies, and that thing is hands down the best darn digi I have ever seen! Of course, for the $3,000 he dropped for the camera alone and then another $1000 or so in accessories, it had better be good. I have a little sony DV cam that I use just for stupid stuff that used to be my brother's (can't remember the model # off the top of my head) and it does great. I guess either way, it looks like Buy.com is hosing everyone on the order, so it's all irrelevant...

I don't know that there's "no way they are coming from Buy.com". I emailed 5 of the sellers yesterday telling them that I would buy their camera but I needed it within 2 days so I wanted to know if they actually had it in their hands. Of course none of them did. One guy even said "I was expecting my shipment today, but there seems to be some confusion at the distributor" All but one also said something to the effect of "If for some reason the distributor is 'out of stock', we'll refund all your money" Sounds a lot like guys who were in the same boat as me yesterday.

I agree with being soured though. I've been addicited to this deal since Saturday and had a hard time sleeping last night, not knowing what to do about the $7.00 battery that was already shipped, not knowing if I'd ever get the camera, not sure if I should cancel the entire order or just hope that I'd get the camera in the next couple weeks. But low and behold it's on it's way!

Also, how many cameras total are on ebay? A hundred? Doesn't seem unrealistic for 100 cameras to be purchased at a low price from Buy.com to be sold on eBay. And a number of those auctions were cancelled in the last couple days because the item is no longer available

EDIT: It looks like there were fewer than 50 for sale on ebay[/b]

The one guy I wonder about is the one selling it for $479 shipped. I mean, I paid $470 total to Buy.com If I hadn't chosen 2nd-day air, I would have paid about $465. Making $14 on ebay (before their charges) doesn't seem like it'd be worth the effort. But beyond that, I think that people saw this deal (Cnet's shopping service was showing the $499 price as of Sat if not sooner) and thought they'd make a bundle on them.

In any case, they're not selling very well on ebay, but I got one coming to my door and I'm freakin' stoked!!!!!

Anybody knows what "*SP PUR**" in the description of your email notification means? Looks like short for "special purchase" to me. The camcorder is released last fall in US, sharp-usa still lists it as current model. Maybe this is a sign of they are going to discountinue it soon? Or it could be they are just clearing them out for the next model.

This camera is brand new, you can barely find a review on it.
One of the ebay sellers told me that the initial shipment of these
cameras was delayed by the dock workers strike in CA. Which
would explain why these cameras are not sold at any of the
"big" stores. I expect they will start showing up at those
stores in a few weeks at much higher prices. Remember
Buy.com is in Cali so they would have them first.

Does this make any sense?

Although my camera bought from Buy.com has shipped out of Phoenix Arizona

Interestingly enough, Phoenix Arizona also happens to be the home town of the guy who's selling 25 of them on ebay for $499 (+$15-$20 shipping) Coincidence, or hijacked truck? :)

Edit: that guy from Phoenix was waiting on "his distributor" like verybody else.... until today. He e-mailed me again and said he'd just talked to his sales rep and the shipment had just arrived!!! <LOL> I wonder who his "sales rep" at Buy.com was :) Also, he told me that the fastest shipping would cost me $40

Just got an email from buy.com saying that they are still looking to fill my order for the cell battery. I wish they could never find it and cancel the item, that saves me some $7 shipping. If I go ahead cancel it, they will probably take away the $50 coupon too.

I ordered one from "that guy in Phoenix" off of eBay this morning. He says his distributor has 3 reserved in stock for him. I got it fedex overnighted for a total of $539 so he says it should arrive tomorrow. I'll update the post if/when I receive it.

He said he believes the reason the price is so low is because of the dock worker's strike and the falling dollar against foreign currency. The distributors would rather unload what they have now during the Christmas season and not get stuck with depreciating stock they can't sell after the holidays.

It's unlikely Sharp is dumping them due to discontinuance; this model is brand new.

Got it an hour ago. THIS THING ROCKS!
I don't have any minidv tape now, But I successfully recorded 5 min TV program using the analog-digital convertion. Very easy to operate. The only downside is it comes with no 1394 cable. But it isn't a problem for me since the firewire pccard has one.
