you mean it's funnier than "merry"?

it just doesn't make sense if he said "merry"... milton would have said "happy".

at first, when reading through this thread, i was all for the "merry > married" team... but then, after listening to the line, i realized that "merry" wouldn't have been nearly as funny as "married".

reading it, "married" looks like it wouldn't be as funny, but when you actually hear it, you can't imagine how "merry" would be funny at all.

I don't think "married" suits his character. He was weird, but not crazy enough to imagine 2 squirrels married. And merry is funnier anyways.

It's been so long that I don't know what he says, but I think merry would be funnier

wtf? have you seen the movie?

the guy burned his office down for moving his desk again... and while he was about to commit arson, he continues to talk to himself...

the dude had separation issues with a swingline stapler...

I still think merry would be funnier. I've seen the movie multiple times, watching it some more isn't gonna change my sense of humor :\

I disagree.

no, it makes perfect sense. Children often interpret animal interactions anthropomorphically, especially little girls. A pair of squirrels hanging out together will invariably be assumed to be married by a child.

Milton's character is presented as rather simple-minded, maybe just a bit aloof, but certainly socially disconnected, perhaps a bit sweet and innocent on the inside.

Like a child.

I always thought he said "married," b/c it always made sense. The squirrels were probably the closest thing he had to friends at the office.

This is a quote from a complaint I just received:

All I have to say is:

I could go for one of those lately. Everything is financial covenant this, fraudulent transfer that around here. A crazy HOA lawsuit could spice up my day.

perfect.

This thread perhaps represents some of the root issues of what I've seen around here with understanding general film context and such.

To think that anything other than "married" in that context, with that character, makes more sense, or is funnier...is truly bizarre.

I am about to start a daily memoir of the crazy shit that happens daily in our office. Most of the stuff we handle downstairs is PI related and half of our clients are insane and egg-shell skulled.
Even if we have a slow day on the client side; there are enough 'events' each day that could fill a weekly 30 minute reality show.

My cousin-in-law, who is a lawyer, too, when I IM'ed him the quote in the OP, stated:

Your practice owns all others. You have the craziest cases known to man.

I do not disagree.
