I thought the program, food stamps, was income based and not asset based?

If she is working within the systems rules, I applaud her. She's seeking out oppurtunities available. If she is breaking the rules and intending to do so then it is something i'd disagree with, though it appears to me she still qualifies for food stamps because she has zero income.

That being said, I don't think we should make the program asset based as it would require to much regulation and going from most political ideas, probally not have a beneficial result but merely a good intention.

The woman has been exposed. Hopefully (and to save face) the state will go after her for all of the FSs that she has redeemed since she won the lottery.

On the other hand we should have some compassion for her. After all, she only owns two (2) homes!

lol. So true. Win a million and get half after taxes yet she's completely evil for getting $200 a month in food stamps. Nevermind 500k is gone in an instant.

Remember that once she's bankrupt, that money she'd gotten will have been dumped into the economy. She's going to need those food stamps again, and likely very soon.

Why does anyone deserve food stamps more than the next guy? A person may need it more, but it's not like they earned the right. If anything she purchased lotto tickets, gave up expectancy to the state, and deserves state handouts more than the guy who didn't.

Even if she is on welfare the rest of her life, she won't get back the $500k the gov got off the lottery :p

Up here in awful socialist canada, they don't tax you on lotto winnings.

I saw her on the local news today, she is one self entitled bitch in the interview. The state has also removed her from the program, and I think they are going to fast track some legislation to make sure it doesn't happen again.

It's a storm in a teacup.

This legislation will mean that winners of the lottery can no longer collect certain benefits.

Does this even happen very much in the first place?

It's not a lot of money in the sense that you probably can't retire and live off it forever. But it's a lot of money in the sense that it's what your average worker makes over twenty years. Half a career's worth of money is a lot.

This. She bought a house. That is often a 1/4 or 1/2 of where many American's wages go to. She bought a car. That is also a good portion of what a person's wages go towards.

Basically, all she has to do is work a part time job to bring in some money to pay for her food, and she's set. Basically, she's just been given a huge lift to help her get out of poverty, and now she's just abusing the system.

Sickening really. She could go find any part time job she wants. Hell, she could use the money and go to school to learn a trade that can make her more money.

Instead, like most people on here are saying, she'll blow it all in 6 months and be right back on welfare. Seems to be likely given her current attitude.

First world problem. Two homes, 500,000 in the bank, on public assistence.

She's still jobless.

I wonder if any of you guys lost your job you wouldn't try getting some unemployment aid even if you had money in your bank accounts and assets you can liquidate.

The difference is that I paid for unemployment out of my own paycheck when I was working so I am entitled to collect. Hardly the situation here. She is plenty capable of feeding herself (and a small army) if she can buy a house.

Actually your employer paid it. Would you have made a little more if he didn't have to pay it? Probably not.

I'm sure you can find plenty of people to get upset over it in its own thread. But this is a thread about a particular biotch. Do you havea comment on it? If not, GTFO

No, he actually paid it, but the state tries to avoid transparency by putting it on the employers side of the transaction. It's money taken out of a transaction between parties A and B, regardless of what the paperwork says.
