Federal Law basically says military votes have to counted with or without a postmark as long as they are executed and signed before or on Nov 7, and signed by a witness. So does Florida override the Nations laws? Also military mail is a bit different. The mail is shipped with or without a postmark, if the last ship or plane is leaving. The mail has to go postmarked or not, thats why there is a federal law saying they must be counted.

There is a claim (see one of my posts above) that there is a conflicting Florida law with the one that requires postmarks. Gore's Florida Campaign Chair (and Florida State Attorney General) asked the overseas ballot rejections to be reviewed because of this. So, hopefully more of the overseas votes will be able to be counted.

It all depends on what the supreme court rules.

If they rule that the SoS was within her discretion to disallow the handcount results then the overseas military ballots couldn't be counted because each county certified it's absentee ballots.

If they rule that the handcounts can continue and that nothing is final yet I'd say they need to count the military ballots. If we can go to all of this trouble to divine the intent of some blue haired incompetents in Palm Beach, we sure as hell ought to bend over backwards to count the votes of people who defend this country and our way of life.

Hopefully, a way will be found to count as many of the ballots as possible.

Florida, and America deserve the top vote-getter. (Now, Red, before you say they don't deserve either one........) :)

Tiger:

People of all color, age, and political stripe err when voting. Many Republican military men screwed up their ballot.

You may live long enough to have a wife with arthritis, presbyopia, cerebral palsy, Parkinson's or other debilitating illness and may regret casting aspersions on old people. In Asia old people are revered. Here they are reviled. The only assumption one can make is that you think you are too stupid to live long enough to discover your many weaknesses.

SJ,

I would say if federal law says those overseas military ballots must be counted in the manner you mentioned, then regardless of FL state law, they should indeed be included in the count. Why? Mainly because we?re talking about electing a federal official, not a FL senator, representative, etc. Federal law here should supercede FL and require FL to update its books accordingly. Some judge may eventually decide this.

I would agree. But it is surprising that with the MULTITUDE of lawyers working on this that no one has brought it up yet.

No offense to any of you, but do you realize how the USA and the American citizen look right now from abroad by soap operas on CNN and other TV stations, as well as these useless discussions on forums like this one?

Trust me, it aint pretty...

Afterburn - if it isn't pretty, it's because of the jealousy that they feel because of the extreme freedom of speech that the USA has. Also, jealousy that this has been kept at the level of arguing in courts instead of blood running in the streets.

Plus #1 is always the target of the also rans.

Michael

btw - I am not American (as in I'm not a US Citizen, I am from North America)

Why would one be jealous of someone that has the same rights as he has? I dont know what planet you come from, but Europe has the same freedom of speech/religion/whatever as "North America" has. This sharade thats called an election is not only sad, its diminishing the position of the USA and its making a joke of the US presidency. The ignorance and arrogance of the responses to my post only reflect how sad it truly is.

For the record, i love the USA. I love the people and their attitude towards life and within one year i will be living there myself, but this sharade and the past one (need i say clinton?) does not put the world #1 country in the best of light. And media and presidential candidates feed it, instead of doing something about it. Right now, the USA is the laughing stock in the world, again. And that is a place it doesnt belong, nor deserves to be.
