removing the 5.25 bay covers is a bit tricky. you gotta take off the side panel and reach in from the back of the 5.25 cover and push out 2 of the 4 small clips holding the covers. For the other covers, you gotta twist the metal plates a couple times to break them off. Same goes for the 3.5 bays.

I would think the reason for the 'grainy' paint job is for fingerprints. If any of you have noticed, typical cases with the smooth finish hold fingerprints and smudges like the FBI. I like the textured finish better, but note that when you clean it, a dry brush is best first, then use a towel of some kind. Paper towels can leave a TON of lint behind embedded in the texture. I haven't tried to clean this case yet, but I've seen that texture before it can really hold some lint.

I bought this case and the "toolless" case Newegg sells....mmm, dead even. Different cases different uses. This case is the finest I have ever used. Rails that are slotted when not used, fan built-in on the internal drive rack so that outside air flows over the HD, two removable racks for easy additions, toolless mounts for internal fans. Forget the loud P/S, buy another. This case just asks for upgrades! Great looks will have you looking for black faceplate DVD's and FD's. Black spray paint is on my 'buy list. Got the window and it is well worth it if you do not want to cut a window on your own. The neonlight is not the best option - get cathode. Round cables is a must. The mods goes on and on. If you buy this case and don't OC you should have bought a HP. Buy this case for yourself.

The "toolless" case from Newegg is the best built mid-size case I have ever used. The reason? Speed and features. I've built over 50 systems this last year and there is not a case that I have seen that can beat the speed that I can put a system together. Buy this case for grandma, your neighbor and your girlfriend.

Yeah I thought about those different colored front drive bezels clashing! Some semi-gloss black paint would be good, but it occurred to me that the buttons for cdrom/cdrw drives, etc. would have the paint rubbing off of them in no time. Haven't thought of a way around that yet. Maybe a good quality black permanent *marks-a-lot* would last longer, but the shade of black wouldn't match....maybe some oil based semi-gloss black house paint (brushed on the buttons) might do the trick. Trying to mask the labels on the drives such as *56x* or *32x10x40*, or the brand name brings up another problem, unless you just want to paint over them. Wouldn't look too bad if you took the drive tray bezel off, then painted the rest of the drive. You'd have a black drive with a 'PC beige' color tray.

I don't know what you guys are hearing, but I just hooked a mobo up to mine to check the ps out, and it is quiet!! My hearing is good too! :) Are you all hooking up the case fans too? I didn't. I'm in LA, maybe they are shipping different ps fan units to different areas. ? Or maybe they are shipped from a different lo-cal. (Mine was shipped from Baldwin Park, CA). The box is labeled "ATXAE1S-BK".

Too bad the case fans are the pass-through type, I was hoping they would be 3 pin w/RPM sensor & mobo monitor. The ps fan in mine is clear, but the case fans are black. Case fans are Sunon, can't read the ps fan.

At least another person agrees with me that the PSU isn't loud. ;) Thanks computer! :) And yeah, my PSU's are all clear fans inside. ;) However, I'm not in Louisiana, I'm in Texas. ;)

EDIT: Changed reference to computer. Sorry buddy. ;)

And just an FYI, most cases of the Chieftech rebrand ones (like this clone) comes with 3 screws on the motherboard screwed in since those are the 3 that are almost the same on all ATX reference motherboards. The rest can change some some motherboards are not full ATX sized. ;)

Also, all the Chieftech rebranded cases (SX1030 clone) do not have a removeable motherboard tray. However, the case is spacious enough to put your motherboard in without any hassle. You should usually put your motherboard in before your drives (or at least take out the two drive cages if they have drives in there). ;)

I hope that helps. :)

L.A. is slang for Los Angeles. CA is California. LA is Louisiana. I'm in LA. :) So, they could be shipping the cases we got to the S. Central USA.

Thanks

hi guys i'm in Miami (that's FL). have not rigged things up yet but will this weekend, then will report back on how the loudness is compared to my Antec-branded SX830 w/Antec 300w PS. i have hmmm 4 or 5 case fans in that puppy plus 1 or 2 in the Antec PS, sure this one will be quieter! i have no problems sleeping with the current noise.

And I don't think the power supply is that loud at all. ;) But then again, some of you guys have sensitive ears or something, but I'm just deaf from all the whirling noises in my room. ;) If anyone needs any high resolution pictures of the case or power supply still (even though several have been posted) I can snap some of it with my Nikon Coolpix 995. ;) Enjoy. :)

if you could just post some pics of the outside of the silver case.. i would apreciate it alot.

I just put the psu in my Dual Duron 1gig system to check out the voltages. The system has 2 1gig durons overclocked to 1.15, a nic, an ATI 64 DDR VIVO, 2 old 2gig western digital HDs 512 meg ECC PC2100 on a Tyan s2460 mb.

Here are the Voltage readings:
3.3 - @3.312 (standbuy volt)
-12 - @11.7043
3.3 - @3.264 (system volt)
5 - @4.6806 (very dissapointing)
12 - @11.9808

These were all taken fron the Tyan System monitor program

I've got the clear fans and I think the PSU is loud, not extreamly. It is definatally not quiet

okie, I finally moved my system into this new case last night and here's my first impressions. Aside from all the obvious already mentioned by everyone(lots of room, looks kewl, etc.) there is one thing I didn't quite like about the case, I can't seem to find anyway to remove the mobo tray from the case and I'm not sure if it's removable judging from the way it's put together. The screws that's holding it in place seems kind of wierd, it just has a hole in the center. As for the PSU, it's louder then my old psu but it's not by any means as "loud as a jet" as some people here describe. It isn't that bad really :)

Oh yeah, has anyone tried opening up the PSU to look for any pots?

Moved my system finally, really nice case. The fans are kinda noisy....but does that mean that that are good? :) Nice deal, worth the money.

At first glance, the mobo tray does not look removable to me. Did anyone else's case already have some of the brass mobo stand-offs installed? Mine came with 3 of them installed! The rest of the mobo mount holes do not have them installed. Looks like maybe the case was partially used.

mdcrab,

Thanks for the link for the refurb SX1030B. Looks like I got the last one they had. Went back after I ordered and it became OOS (out of stock).

I was thinking of jumping into the original deal, but had reservations about the noise from the power supply as mentioned. Anyway I've bought several refurb items from Newegg so this was more convenient.

the case is supposed to come with a few mobo screws installed. it is not used.

also, none of the antec cases, or clones, have removable mobo trays. there is enough space in there to do your work. so no need for a mobo tray.

*edit: those 3 mobo standoffs are pretty much standard on every motherboard out there.... whereas the other standoffs that were not installed vary among motherboards, i guess, so they let us install them ourselves.

Ok thanks. Hmmm, I'm curious to know why only part of the mobo stand-offs would be installed. Seems like it would either be none, or all of them.

just a quick note for the person who mentioned he didn't get any keys with his case: i though i was in the same boat until i opened everything up and found 2 keys in the bag with screws etc in the small brown box up in the top of the case, where the cdroms will go.

so make sure you check that screw bag for your keys. =)

SKORPI0,

You're correct. The Newegg Refurb ANTEC SX1030B - Black deal is dead. Glad you got in on it.

Last Newegg refurb I ordered was a GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GEFORCE2 Ti450 refurb. It came in a retail box with CD and everything. I am keeping my fingers crossed that their case refurbs are as good. Hopefully just opened box or something similar.
