It's an important point about the attitudes of intellectuals that think they know better than certain people. We actually depend on people with limited skill sets and specific knowledge that far exceeds what any individual can possibly know.

Sometimes, the "right way" is the decidedly WRONG way. Any bureaucrat or idealist needs to realize this and his example is a revalation and interesting to boot.

what the fuck are you talking about. sounds like wishful thinking from someone with no intellect. there is a gap between what rowe says and what you are trying to give him credit for. again, rowe says nothing of substance in that video. He goes through, reaching near what seems to be the pinnacle of his thoughts, it feels like he is about to make his point, but never does

Just when you think you know it all, here comes Mike Rowe with 2 balls on his chin to serve you up some humble pie. You DO think you know it all don't you?

I think Mike's lecture had several points:
1) We don't know everything. This is a platitude, yes, but Mike's great experiences and strong storytelling style humorously drives this point home.
2) Dirty jobs get the short end of the stick, whether its in media, or the way its shown in culture. Skilled labor is important, and should be given its own space instead of looking down on it. I bet Mike wanted to say something about university vs trade school and etc.
3) Reminding people that while it is great to venerate the creators, innovators and etc, you need the back-end to support the front-end. As eloquently as he puts it, "innovation needs imitation".

Also I learned about peripeteia and an agnorisis. Put a little more culture in my life.

FWIW, I saw this a long time ago. I haven't forgotten his story or his message since.
