Because that would show a lack of intelligence.

Actually, I've had more than a few nerdy girls (7 to 8's) compliment me on mine and they had none, nor would they ever get one. It actually got them hotter than they already were after my shirt came off and oddly they always make a point to kiss it. Keep in mind these are all successful 30 somethings (scientist, other two were high ranking gov managers) so your mileage may vary depending on age. Maybe a 40 year old would be turned off, but I guess I'll find out when I'm 70. ;)

My neighbor is in his late 50s and he just started getting tattoos. Maybe I should ask him if any 30 year old girls have come on to him because if it.

I have several, but none that can be seen when I'm wearing a short-sleeved shirt. Tats on lower arms, hands, and neck/face are fail. Unless you're a musician or tattooist, I guess.

My current GF would never get a tattoo and has no problem with the ink I have, or the fact that I intend to get more work done in the future. Granted I waited until I was 32 to get my first tattoo, not exactly an impulsive decision.

My mom still doesn't know I have a tattoo on my wrist.

You'll find that most people, especially people you don't know very well or at all, are fairly polite in person and won't say anything to you directly that is negative... most people anyway.

College is not the real world, people say what they want. Negative or positive :D

Sports fanatics who like a specific team should wear their jerseys everywhere they go, including job interviews because if your attire doesn't scream "I LOVE SPORTS TEAM!" at your interviewer, you're a liar. And if your poor choice of fanaticism doesn't impress your potential boss, well then you deserve to flip burgers.

Or, perhaps some people just understand that different situations call for different etiquette.

I guess it depends on what you get and how detailed it is. Let's just say I had a kickass artist and it's very detailed. Took an entire weekend to do. And a tattoo isn't going to get you the chick, just an extra turn-on for them when the clothes come off...

I'm sure that's why the tattoo removal business is booming. Clearly a good number of people who have gotten tattoos have regrets about them and/or don't want the social stigma that comes with them.

You're just trying to minimize what having a tattoo says about you in the eyes of others (or justify in your own mind that it doesn't matter). Also, just because it doesn't matter to you now doesn't mean it won't in the future, and this is something I don't think younger people (especially teens) give much, if any, thought to... which is yet another reason I've never gotten a tattoo or a body piercing of any kind.

Again, why would you cover it up if it isn't looked down upon much?

One of my previous jobs we had a warehouse employee who had a massive Raiders tattoo on the back of his head and neck (he shaved his head) and I always thought to myself how hideous it looked and wondered why anyone would do that to themselves.

If you are fine with tattoos then why don't you tattoo your face? Somewhere you can't cover it up? :p

I get what you're saying, but you're still missing the context of my statements.

I never said to cover a tattoo, I didn't even advocate it. YOU said in an absolute statement that a tattoo will confine you to a limited set of menial blue collar jobs.

I then responded and said tattoo aren't looked down on much anymore, especially if they are covered by normal business wear.

I fail to understand how you cannot realize my statement is correct and yours is a biased blanket statement that over generalizes entire masses of people.

My cousin who just turned 30 is getting more and more. She started in her teens during her rebellious years, but is lately even more obsessed with them. She's a professional in the mortgage business making good money and very level-headed, with 2 kids and a happy life. They're not small either... but she did say she only gets them where clothes can hide them since she meets with clients everyday. She simply says they're addicting.
