Tattoo threads are great. They bring out all the squares on this forum. I don't have any, but I still appreciate a great tat when I see one. Some of my friends have paid good money for some beautiful artwork.

I will say...tramp stamps or tattoos of your favorite beer are incredibly stupid.

Welcome to life pal. In the real world people generally look at someone with tattoos and start to question your judgement. I guess if your career goals are working on engines or welding or driving a fork lift then tat it up.

You should add police/fire/EMS/nurses/doctors to your list of low level careers that qualify people for tattoos as well.

There are some very well done tattoos; however I invariably feel, personally, that the person looked better without the tattoo(s).

Same applies to body piercings.

I think tats that are out of place and not there for the "look at me!!" reaction are ok.

It's private and personal to that person and they're not being an attention whore with it.
I think it's nice when someone has a meaningful tat, not just random shit because it "looks cool"

General rule is that it should be stuff that never changes. That would be stuff like your own life experiences, the name of your daugther, how many women you've slept with (add a tick mark for each one).

I started thinking about getting a tattoo about a week after my first boyfriend died. I didn't want to do it rashly so I've been waiting. I didn't want it to be obvious that it was a memorail tat, and I finally solidified what I wanted a couple months ago. I'm going to get it sometime in the new year. I've come up with a few other meaningful tattoo ideas, but we'll see how I feel after the first. :)

tattoo's are a serious choice to me, its permanent so it should mean something,.

I've finally decided on what my next one will be; just need to find a trustworthy artist to do it since my last girl has moved away. :(

An idiot friend of mine had his girlfriend's name tattooed on his finger like a ring and now that they are broken up he has to get it lasered off. Moran.

However, you'd be surprised how many tats are looming under those dress shirts.

Which makes them pointless. It means either the tattoo is a lie or the person is a weakling to have to hide themselves for such a large part of their lives.

If you're going to act the normal business professional 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 20 years, you might as well be the normal business professional instead of trying to delude yourself into thinking you're something else.

If you can't live up to the lower-class image of a tattoo there's no reason to bother with one.

Not pointless at all; tattoos are, or at least should be, a personal choice and I don't need anyone to see them as they are for me to enjoy. You think everything in your personal life should be on display for everyone to see? It's not that I'm scared of someone seeing them, I just don't care if anyone does; I can look at them whenever I want and that is all that matters.

Indeed. If I can't wear a speedo at work, I might as well kill myself. Being able to wear them on the weekend is not enough.

I always wanted the face of a bengal tiger on my butt cheeks but I was worried I would outgrow that desire.

Turns out I was wrong. I still think it would be cool as shnit.

You can always get an "M" tattooed on each ass cheek... that way when you bend over it says "MoM".

It's a tattoo. It goes on your external covering. Outward-facing is for display.
If you wanted something internal you should've drawn it on a piece of paper and eaten it.

So we should all be walking around naked. Ok...

It's displayed for me, not for you. I buy nice underwear that looks good, yet nobody sees that.

:whiste: I read what you posted. You state that it's not looked down upon and then said that you can cover it up with business casual clothing.

Why would you need to cover it up if it's not looked down upon?

English mutherfucker! Do you speak it?

I said "Not looked down on that much anymore" "Especially if you can cover it with business casual clothing".

The first statement is not absolute; if you think that statement is contradictory of its qualifier, learn English.

Yet another brainless post by donkey-show boy. Different situations call for different etiquette. If you put your feet up on your coffee table at home, you should probably do it when invited to the White House too, right? If you don't, you're just living a lie.

Another one who completely missed the point. A shame My Little Pony doesn't develop cognitive ability.

You can pretty well sum it up like this.

A tattoo isnt going to get you a job offer, but it may damn well prevent you from getting one.

Make wise choices.

I have two that I like, will post pics if requested. I see no problems with tattoos as long as you know they are permanent and not something stupid like "I LOVE BEER" (friend had that one). Think it through, make it art, make it yours.

I'm sure that's why the tattoo removal business is booming. Clearly a good number of people who have gotten tattoos have regrets about them and/or don't want the social stigma that comes with them.

You're just trying to minimize what having a tattoo says about you in the eyes of others (or justify in your own mind that it doesn't matter). Also, just because it doesn't matter to you now doesn't mean it won't in the future, and this is something I don't think younger people (especially teens) give much, if any, thought to... which is yet another reason I've never gotten a tattoo or a body piercing of any kind.

Again, why would you cover it up if it isn't looked down upon much?

One of my previous jobs we had a warehouse employee who had a massive Raiders tattoo on the back of his head and neck (he shaved his head) and I always thought to myself how hideous it looked and wondered why anyone would do that to themselves.

If you are fine with tattoos then why don't you tattoo your face? Somewhere you can't cover it up? :p

Because that would show a lack of intelligence.

Actually, I've had more than a few nerdy girls (7 to 8's) compliment me on mine and they had none, nor would they ever get one. It actually got them hotter than they already were after my shirt came off and oddly they always make a point to kiss it. Keep in mind these are all successful 30 somethings (scientist, other two were high ranking gov managers) so your mileage may vary depending on age. Maybe a 40 year old would be turned off, but I guess I'll find out when I'm 70. ;)
