Midsummer Seti@Home Race: the official race starting thread!

TAS has chosen Seti@Home as their project for June. We have also been thinking about a race to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Seti@Home project.

Here is my proposal for the race:

We challenge some other teams for a race: e.g. BroadbandReports.com Team Starfire, Team Starfire World BOINC, The Planetary Society, The Knights Who Say Ni, OcUK, Phoenix Rising and some others for a
MidSummer Seti@Home Race.
We will host the race and do and post the stats.

The race would be from June 20, 2009, 00.00 UTC to June 27, 2009, 00.00 UTC.
We would measure the production during those seven days.
Pending credits would not be included; the numbers posted at the Seti@home site would be the ones used for the stats.
The team with the highest production wins the honor, prestige and a special diploma (which we would have to design and post).
It would be allowed to enter as many computers as one can, to assimilate computers during the race, recruit new team members, encourage old ones, use the optimized or regular applications, use of any operating system, any CPU or GPU -
the one and only thing that counts are the cobblestones produced.

We would also have a intra-team race, e.g. TAS vs all the others, but there we have to do some balancing, ... (just look at dajeepster's output ...)

Please vote in the poll and post your comments here!

🙂

Edit: Please post in this thread if you want to join. I'll make up the teams as soon as enough crunchers have joined!

Edit: I can't do the race today due to a minor natural disaster - see my post close to the end.

Edit:: Race cancelled. Se my post further down!

5 votes for a race -- none agains. Could we have some more votes?

Do we need a prize for the best cruncher in TeAm AnandTech? A prize for the winning team?

I usually love a good race but I have cut S@H to one poor little Mac Mini so I would have to penalize Rosetta and switch those crunchers over in order to race. Even then the output isn't impressive but I would be OK with that for a week................. so I voted FOR.

PS: I don't need a prize to RACE.

Just draw me a

Instead of a price I vote for a punishment in order to get more production 🙂
The losing team will have to crunch for my username for a year (of course we only invite top teams 😉)

Lol 🙂

Somehow I missed this thread, good to see their is something for the 10yr anni .
I'll switch my quad over to SETI for the race 🙂.

I might join for that one week. I have 2x Core2 Quads (2.4GHz and 3.73GHz), 1x Core2 Duo (2.0GHz), 1x Core i7(4.117GHz), 2x GTX260C216SC's, an 8800GT and an 8800GTS G92, and a Core2Duo Mobile T7300. I wonder how well I would fair since I haven't crunched since having only a single Q6600 @ 3.3GHz and an 8800GTS G92...

I did SETI Classic back in the day (before it was "Classic"), so for the 10th Anniversary I'll HAVE to join. 😀

Great fleet you have their 😀

Be sure to use the optimised clients on those, that reminds me, gotta find out what the latest one is......

my C2Q@3333MhZ crunches WUs in 680 sec while a similar core i7 takes over 2000 sec with the stock app!!

OK, I'll challenge some other teams - let us see if they respond.
No matter if they respond or not, there will be an intra team race and I'll set it up Monday or Tuesday so we can start Friday!

Those who want to take part, please post here!

Hey...been busy lately. 😀

I have 3 dual cores I can run seti on, AMD X2 cpus.

What is the best app to run, I saw in the other thread, cuda, astropulse, etc...

🙂

use cpu-z to find out the highest sse level your hardware has available (I think early X2s have SSE2 and later revisions (am2) have sse3) and download the 32bit or 64bit (depending on your OS) versions of every application. instructions are provided with the download in a readme file!

wow It's been a long time since I last heard from you guys!

You've always been pretty active at rosetta!

Thanks. 😀

I am crunching under Rebel Alliance also, I was a member when there were more people involved.

Is that ok with you guys ??

Boinc now shows 2 instances of seti@home_enhanced version 603.

On the download page it shows current version as 503 ??

My X2s are SSE3 capable.

603 means everything runs fine: you'll be surprised by the rac you'll get from an x2 with those apps!

I just had a flooding in my basement - due to very heavy rain - locally more than 40 mm (1.57 inches) in less than 2 hours ...
I am very gratefull, that I took the trouble to guide all my powerlines and ethernet cables close to the ceiling, that the lowest point of the power is 2 feet above the floor and that my lowest computer was one foot above the floor ...
The water was 3 inches above the floor.
All crunchers have been crunching without interruption.
I am also very gratefull that I did not sell my power pumps because tonight each pumped out approximately 150 litres/minute (=40 galons/minute) for quite some time - the floor area is slightly more than 120 square metres (= 143 square yards).
It took the pumps more than 45 minutes to empty the basement.
The damage was very limited - the floors were prepared for this eventuality, it has happened once 9 years ago.
The loss: one sack of sugar (4 pounds) and one sack of flour (10 pounds) and some 4 hours of intense work for my wife and me ... now the dehumidifier has to run for a few days.

I am so tired ... Good night!

I'll do the race tomorrow ...

Now that the video card is also crunching in my new rig at work some good numbers ought to be happening!

Sorry for your water related troubles Peter, I know what that's like!

Immersion cooling is difficult. You need to run the water through tubing to copper heatsinks to be effective.

LoL! I agree! And drilling them is not easy under water ...
