LAFAYETTE (AP) - The principal of a Lafayette middle school says colored jelly bracelets worn by students may have sexual meanings and parents should prevent their children from wearing them to school.

Angevine Middle School Principal Mike Medina issued the warning to parents in an e-mail Thursday and said the bracelets are a "substantial distraction." Medina says in the e-mail that the colors of the bracelets are rumored to signify sexual acts that students have done or are willing to do.

Medina says students are being asked to remove the bracelets but that no one has been suspended.

Some students have protested the order and say they wear the bracelets to be fashionable and deny that they have sexual connotations.

humm i haven't heard of this, has anybody else?

did a quick Google search for jelly Bracelets and the first hit was this.

ive been hearing about this for a few years now. not new, and im sure at some places it is reality. luckily my girls dont wear them

never heard of it but im out of the middle school loop 😉

i remember my school had an assembly one day about belt ends hanging out, soemthing about a penis or what not, all the students were very WTF but they made us tuck the ends in after that 😕

I guess they'll just have to resort to communicating their willingness to copulate verbally now. 😕

Self-fulfilling rumor, the schools banning them, not the sexual acts. I'm sure that's actually been realized as well, but that's not why they are being banned.

Typical school administrator stupidity.

Any of the educational institutions i've seen (including the two colleges i've attended) have almost universally aligned to the rumor. While there were no rules against wearing them, they're known by anyone i've talked to refer to the key mentioned in the OP. Even as a 4th grader years ago I had heard when girls at the Christian school would start wearing them as opposed to chancing the obviously very strict dress code there.

I'm sure parents hearing and believing everything they hear and putting pressure on school administration has something to do with it.

This explains a whole lotta shit I've seen lately.
Tramp stamps are slowly being replaced by bracelets.

But Tramp Stamps give you something to look besides her face. :Q

There must be some kind of unwritten law that school administrators must all come from the left side of the bell curve. This is just idiotic.

wtf? I have heard absolutely nothing about these bracelets, ever. I'm a sophomore in college at one of the largest universities in the country.

Edit: And how does banning these bracelets actually do anything? Now I guess the kids will have to actually talk and spread rumors to figure out who does this stuff now...
