Thanks, I need a copy of .NET. Since Pace University has no special programs with mircosoft to give stuff away. Also I would mind another copy of XP for free. Last one i got free was at the OEM in NY. Thanks again

guess what guys sorry to rain on your parade but they usually have you present your university id, for check in
so i guess this deal is not for everyone
i cannot speak for the pro. i havent heard but i know last year in detroit they had a similar workshop with tons of freebies but id was required at the door.
i hope im wrong about this year so we can all get free win xp, however your email notification should tell you if the give away is for both or for only one.
good luck guys

<< Cool, am a grad student at Villanova U and working at Conshohocken, PA so I am going to the one at Temple. daMachine, where u at in King of Prussia? >>

DancesWithWolves,

small world, I'm a Villanova grad student too. Anyhow, I'm near 202 and Henderson road (about 15 mins. from Vill). So, it sounds like we are pretty close. Private mesasge me if you are interested in car pooling.

Yeah, just for being a student at Michigan State, I get free everything:
Win98
WinXP Pro
Win 2000
Visual Studio 6.0
Visual Studio.NET
Norton Antivirus
List goes on and on!

<<
Looks like its at Universities across the country
>>

except for the entire midwest.

No Missouri, no Kansas, no Nebraska, no Kentucky, no Alabama, no Tenessee..... do I need to go on?

Looks like the hit the edges of north, south, east and west, but left out the entire middle of the country!

I signed up for the NYC one. About 150 spots left. Only bad thing is I'll have to skip class to go... Oh well 🙂
Anyone from NJIT going?

My email confirmation states that Remember, every event attendee will receive a full version of Visual
Studio .NET Academic, a full version of Windows XP Professional.

I hope I can win an Xbox or something. I wonder if one of the prizes will be a PDA running Windows pocket.

FordLorider, How is it being a Michigan State Student you get everything for free?

That's weird, my email confimation only says:

Studio .NET Academic, plus a chance to win* one of several great prizes
which could include a Microsoft Xbox(tm), Microsoft Press® Books, $500
American Express Gift Certificates, MP3 Players, and more.

I wonder why the difference? I would love another copy of WinXP....

I've already got WinXP Home Edition on my computer.

I have no need for Visual Studio.NET, but may be interested in the Win XP Pro.

But I'm unfamiliar with the two versions of XP.

Is there any compelling reason for me to give up 3.5 hours of my life to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

- Henry

My e-mail confirmation didn't say anything about getting WinXP Pro, but when I e-mailed the Microsoft department responsible for this event, they responded that I would indeed be receiving Win XP.

So even if your e-mail didn't explicitly state you will receive XP, I'm pretty sure you will.

check out this site: which one??

I signed up for the San Jose event and got this in my email:

It might vary based on what location you signed for.

Does anyone know if you can leave these things early? The event is scheduled for 6:30pm-10:00pm. It would suck if they only gave out those things at the end. Also, I don't know if its worth going to just to receive Visual Studio and not XP Pro.

I signed up for the New York event earlier today... I'm glad I got this from my Frat brother earlier today... I think NY if full by now... when I first signed up it was 147... when I check a few hours ago it was just 17... well I'm gonna get some free software

Sweet! Georgia State is good for something! I don't mind sitting through a few hours of lecturing, i do it anyways, but i just have to make sure i have my trusty clie with me. Free stuff is always good. Plus the place where it's being held is right next to the parking deck.

chuckwagon

I am a student at the University of Washington and it confirmed that I get both the visual.net and windows XP

"Remember, every event attendee will receive a full version of Visual Studio .NET Academic, a full version of Windows XP Professional, plus a chance to win* one of several great prizes which could include a Microsoft Xbox?, Microsoft Press® Books, $500 American Express Gift Certificates, MP3 Players, and more."

I am so looking forward to this.

Sorry dude, but all the MS launch events I have been to they always hold off giving away the free stuff till after, though they do the giveaways during. I am brining my math homework with me so that the 3.5 hours won't be wasted 🙂

Did anybody save a screen shot of the site selection page?

When I signed up this morning, it DIDN"T say anthing about having to show an ID.

Now they've changed the page to include: "Please be aware that you must be a faculty member or college student with a valid school ID to attend these events. Professional developers are encouraged to attend the events listed at ..."
